  1. how about a small fridge for a beer? Looks great
  2. SJOs are fantastic looking killis and I rate them as amoungst my favorites.(along with the other 17 spiece I have  ) really fast growing and wont breed untill about 10 months old(thanks Stuart) Yes they need room and Ive found that its hard to have any more than 1 male to a tank Love white worm and any other live food... I had them in mind when asking about feeding meal worms Im sure that they will take them down 6 at a time
  3. I would guess that a lot would be OK but the high temp may be more of a problem. I keep my Killis at about 22 to 24 cel get another tank anyway, you know you want to
  4. I can only go by what international glass merchants advise. Toughened glass is twice the price of annealed (normal) You can see why I dont build big tanks... just not comfortable at all
  5. from the glass merchants (metroglasstech) charts base 1500 x 929 15mm thick sides 1500 x 600 scale finnishes at 1200 but that says 12mm so I would expect that 15mm would be possibly the recomended I would honestly recomend going for toughened though as the weight is really heavy and if it breaks, just think of the damage a piece of glass shooting accross a room could do with that much force behind it. At least with toughened, it would do a lot less harm to kids and other things in the path of fire

    Meal Worms

My Grand Daughter has meal worms that she calls pets. Her other grand dad gave them to her and they raise them as food for a few pet stores. My question is, are they ok to feed as live food? the largest appare to grow to about 20 mm long but the young ones are a lot smaller

    Killiefish

They really are beautiful They are peat spawners and the eggs are layed in peat, collected and dried for about 8 weeks then wet and raised. They are refered to as anuals so will have a shorter life but are pretty easy to breed

    Killiefish

life anything from 12 months to 5 years plus depending on breeds eating their young depending on how much planting, what spiece and how often you feed them, yes they do. Some spiece will only eat them if really hungry... What are you looking at getting?

    winter foods

OK Its hard to get live food during winter so I tend to feed mainly frozen foods. Blood worm Daphnia Brine shrimp Tropical tucker and ox/beef heart are the frozen foods that I use but what else can I feed? I do feed a bit of live food in white worm and a few live daphnia and mozzies but they are a lot harder to find any other ideas please
  14. Its bigger than the glass thats imported so if you wanted one, it would need to have either the glass or the tank imported especially for you
  15. yes, I see your in Auckland so PM sent
  16. Shodox maybe water is heavier... sorry but no. Glass is glass and the method of manufacture changed about 35 years ago but other than that no. For years people have got away with useing thinner glass more out of luck. The stress that the glass is under is extreame and now days people are more aware of this and want a bigger safty margin built in. The largest tanks I have ever built (and I have built thousands) is 3 fters because Im not confortable building larger tanks with out useing saftey glass as I know what the mess will be like if the tank gives out. Inh the glass industry, the use of saftey glass has become a lot wider in the last 10 years. 10 years ago, you didnt need saftey glass in showers or 1 panel doors but how many people would feel as safe now days with out saftey glass in those areas. Yes I know that there are still a lot of homes that dont have saftey glass but to be honest, they are simply time bombs waiting to badly hurt someone! In answer to the question, Yes, pay the money (probably about $10) and put 2 braces on. It may not need it but for $10 plus the adhesive you will have a stronger tank. I didnt notice if your in Auckland or not but hell, get in touch with me and I will give them to you if you come out and pick them up.
  17. If its any help, I use to show Budgies and at one show that I was not entered to, I couldnt get to have a loo untill the last day. Debenching was at 4pm and we were there at about 2pm and must say that I was extreamly dissapointed to see so many empty spots.
  18. Jim r for the amount of cutting you would do, I wouldnt even think about it If you do decide to buy it, I could sell you some land in Arizona as well They work and work well but in my company, we dont bother with them. The green Diamantor cutters are great and its normally only the the way you use them that will create any problems and those problems will still happen with the "Toyo" cutters as well. Paying $30 to $40 for an self oiling cutter is expensive if you dont know how to use it correctly. I sell the diamantore for $4.50 I think (cant remember to be honest) and they work every bit as well as the dearer ones but as with all cutting, its very, very important to keep the wheel oiled. I use Inox but 3n1 oil or any other light machine oil is fine. If anyone wants to learn how to cut glass, get in touch and Im happy to show you at no cost Maybe we could set up a date for anyone that wanted their glass cut down and I could do it for them? Happy to help
  19. Just ordered 5 sets of nets last night
  20. you WILL have to use a nutral cure for sure. Give David a call at "Glasscorp" in auckland or send him an email. Be aware that very few silicones are tested for aquarums but normally its because testing and garentees are very expensive. Remember that when testing, its not just a mater of puting fish in a new tank and seeing what happens Another thing tio think about is if the tank has just started to leak, it must be for a reason and its possible that the silicone is starting to break down and maybe a remake would be best?
  21. the quicker silicone cures the worst it is... normally 1 day per mm of joint. Thats the standard in glass trade
  22. Im going away fishing tomorrow, you guys are useing great bait. I may try some myself
  23. As Alan told me, why do the salt thing when we have so much sea water. Thats what I use
