  1. its a good idea to soak the mops for quite a while as well Mine (fatre 6 months) still turn the water black Also make them very thickso they can really get into it and if you have a trio, the spare female wont go having a free meal of eggs
  2. when useing java moss beware to make sure you keep the moss in a plastic bag when the mops are in as the fish will lay in the moss as well. Next problem that will cause is moving say the moss from Choc Australe to say Striatum. There will be eggs in it and the female will look very very similar... cross breeding may become a problem. I have moss in with almost all my killis as its a good form of food if Im away (when the fish get real hungry) but when spawning I gather the moss and float it in the tanks that is came from in plastic zip lock bags.
  3. if you by in bulk, it wont get much cheaper than BBS for fry At a guess $60 for 6months to a years food. I would feed BBS to at least 8 to 10 tanks with fry in them twice a day thats 5792 meals at a cost of about $60 Thats 1 cent per meal I dont know about you but I think thats really cheap
  4. We have heaps of those but am trying to breed Pandas from them... will be a slow process Must have about 30 fry plus the adults

    tank flex

remove as much water as practable and reglue both ends of the brace. Silicone takes at least 1 day per 1mm of seal so at best it will take 5 days to cure... leave as little water as possible in the tank for all this time. If that seal has broken down, have a good look at the rest of the tank . The brace like that has a lot of work to do so you would naturally expect it to go sooner but its a good time to check it all
  6. yes It needs to be even and flat It, quite frankly, is a "problem" just waiting to happen BTW Toughened glass would take twists of far greater than that but again, should be flat and level
  7. Paul For shear beauty what about the Nigripinnis? With them, depending on incubation temps, they can take up to 4 or 5 months like the Rachovii (20 to 28 weeks) but to put some dirt in a tank and see it start to move then fry is just so neat.
  8. nice basic group there next we need to get you into some nothos
  9. no problem I was hoping to be able to help with IDing why the tank had broken, being in the glass trade we can somtimes reconise failings good luck
  10. any chanch of a photo of the top of the crack... where it starts?
  11. yes The Dagiti is a top mop (attach the mop to a cork) The rest are bottom in general I do know of a couple of people that have more luck with peat with the Australe but things like that can be played arround with at some stage in the future.

    Salt

They naturally have white on their fins so nothing to worry about. The size difference is quite normal with males when mature often being twice the size of females and when young, often the males can be 3 times the size If you have only the single female make sure she has a place to hide from the male as males want to do the chasing very often and she may well need a rest. Easy to breed

    new fish pics

    N. Korthouse If that is the white that you were mentioning, nothing to worry about as that is there colour Are you intending breeding them ? Nothos are exciting to breed as the fry appare like majic from the peat after being dried for about 3 months In south America, there is a name for their annuals that translates to fish from the clouds as the fry majicly appare after it rains

    Salt

yes I use a tsp in my tanks every 2nd or third water change
  18. They normally are hungry so youve done well I put some floating Java fern if with my Dageti's for about 3 hours whlie I did a complete water change in my Clown tank(Killis) and now have about 12 Dageti fry and at least the same in Clowns so lesson learnt there. Put the fern in to plastic bags and not in another tank
  19. My Bristle noses are on eggs again Stu talk about flies
  20. What have you got as some are less "hungry" than others
  21. add a bit of cycle or similar will often start the process to better water off

    sleepless nights

They made it through the last 24 hours OK and Ive decided to put a Laminated lid on the tank so that it filters out the UVa light and hopfully wont burn the fish or the fern. If the cyclones come I wont be too concerned with the fish, it will be the booze cupboard at Coromandel that gets first attention
  24. gesh Alan we use to get $3 per meter and had to deliver it for that
  25. Well, Ive done it, Ive put the Nigrippinis outside. OK, They are only the 3 belly sliders but I will still be up early to make sure they have made it. If they are ok for the rest of the week, I will move a young trio out side next week but still leave 1 trio inside, just in case
