  1. about 25 to 30 years ago I made a few tank (32) and visited a store with wanting something different that I may be able to breed as well. Killis. I did look at Discus and visited a guy by the name of Don Hanley in Park Re Titirangi and he showed me a a Killi that looked really beautiful with flowing fins and really colourful. Im sure it was an Australi Gold but that hooked me and soon I had 32 spiece and had devided quite a few tanks into twin tanks. After a few years, I wasnt looking after them so it was time to get rid of them and Logan Foe was called (he was the pres of the Killi club) and he was given everything I had. Stands, fish, tanks, heaters and pumps. Show Budgies Raceing pigeons (with has the white doves for weddings now) My daughter came home with some guppys and I showed her some photos of the Killis I had all those years ago. End story is that I now have 42 tanks (most are the twin tanks ) filled with Killis and some with Guppys. Yes, I will make some more tanks and take over the larger side of the garage and my aim is to keep and breed all the spiece that I can with a few exceptions so that they dont die out again. Hardest thing is to find them as a lot of people dont know what they have in the corner of that tanks in the sitting room unless they are Killi people. In setting up, I have had a lot of help from Wok, Alan W, Stuart L, Erling J and Tim and I thank them sincerly

    sand

the biggest problem I have with water storing is that there is always a bit of hair/wool finds its way into the container and ties up the eggs together and when this happens, the few eggs that fungus are in the middle and start fungussing the good eggs. As well as that, the fry can be spred out for a couple of weeks in hatching which means a big difference in size. Further to the Dageti eggs that I soaked last night. I found 9 eggs but this morning have 10 fry... my eyes are worst than I thought

    sand

if I do have a go that way, Im going to need pure white sand so I can see the eyes in the sand, I was also thinking of useing white glass. Problem I have is that I know I gathered 20 eggs but when I went to soak them I could only find 9 Thanks for the offer Jim

    Gardneri Blues

For the 2nd time I have found a fry swimming around with its parents. The tank is basicly bare except for a mop and a sponge filter. How common is this? and what other spiece is not too bad with their fry? Ive now decided to float some java fern on the top and some java moss on the bottom and see what happens I always thought that Gardneri were a bit on the hungry side when it came to their fry
  8. Australe Golds Australe Chocs Striatum Nigripinnis Bitaeniatum Dageti Gardneri P82 Gardneri Blues Gardneri Albino Scheeli Korthausae Yellow Palmqvisti Annulatus (clowns) Plus eggs in peat of a few more
  9. Interesting Alan I have a problem with 2 tanks that I breed in and put some in yesterday. The one with Albion Gardneri cleaned up within a few hours with no problems to the Gardneri and the other has a Fighter in it and an improvement but not gone. The fighter is fine though. will try to remember to let you know how the 2nd treatment goes
  10. exactly as the directions state... not blaming Flourish but worthy of a mention just incase someone else has a similar problem I honestly doupt that Flourish has a thing to do with it but as stated, worth mentioning as the Killi had been in the tank since the end of July (about 7 weeks?)
  11. I added Flourish Excell on Thurs to control the Black Beard and lost over night a healthy looking N Palmqvisti... cant blame the Flourish and it was the only Killi to meet its maker but if others had that problem I would have to start thinking that maybe..... This was in my community tank inside, the one that has only Killis in it
  12. Smidey Mainly because I want to and as I breed my Killis, I simply over feed at times and want to clean the tanks of excess food. 42 tanks and to feed and water change takes about an hour to an hour and a half twice a day
  13. if your only doing a 10% change, is it really needed (to heat the barrel) I dont and have had no problems so far bearing in mind that most my tanks get 10 % per day
  14. what two are not being shown Alan? Scheeli?
  15. I suppose Im still new so keen eh  The other thing is that it gets me out of Brendas hear and therefor I dont get yelled at
  16. great to hear. Are you a member of the Killi club? and are you going to breed them? Will look forward to how you get on
  17. Another thing Aquab is that its great for teaching kids to be responsible and yet a bit forgiving when they dont. The mop spawners are very easy and dont have too many problems. They will take a lot of veriation in water conditions and a a hardy type of fish. Peat spawner (Im finding) a bit harder with conditions and have a few more diseases (velvet) Have a look at the Striatum for ease of breeding as well as Blue Gardneri. If your girls will want to try breeding, look at makeing some mops now and give them a good soaking as that too has been a hard thing in getting wool (you need acyrilic, not wool) that wont leach out colour. The colour wont harm the fish but makes seeing the fish a lot harder and dayly water changes become twice a day.
  18. speaking of that Mr Wok What happened to your writings last month?
  19. join as a family maybe? The girls will have fun searching for eggs and then looking after fry

    questions

interesting that you make that comment as I have just written the same thing in the Killi newsletter Yes you need the scientific name but to say something like Fundulopanchax Sjoestedti or Nothobranchius Fuscotaeniatus is more than a mouth full. Mind you to wright it is probably easier than to say it

    questions

In the lounge I have a tank that only houses Killis except for a Palco and they are of different sizes. The tank has enough room to allow most not to hide for long and come out a enjoy the view of me having dinner
