  1. just have a look at all the photos of Killis and you cant helped but to be addicted I too was just going to have a few in a comunity tank but an now setting up 15 tanks with another 10 close behind
  2. Glass can be cut by anyone provided you get advise and know what your doing. Make one steady cut and dont go over it several times as it turns the cut "cold " Silicone in order to do its job correctly needs a slight gap rather than being pushed hard up against the other side Arris the edges of the glass with 240 grit wet and dry sand paper useing a sanding block or ask your local glass merchant to arriss it. You could get away with 4mm but 5mm would be a lot safer. Mask up the edges as it will make it a lot neater for your first tank. only construct half the tank to begin with then leave it for 24hours (for your first tank) hold the glass to one another by useing masking tape

  5. I had similar experiance both here and in Oz where I would front up with the birds the day befor export in Oz and show the Ozzie vet what he had to look for. When they came to NZ the same again here in that they would have a quick look inside and ask a few questions about racing and I was then on my way. I have to say that the reason I started to import was the rumours of smuggled pigeon eggs and I made sure the birds were clean from everything. I didnt want to have my birds wrecked with disease. Sillest thing they ever did was stop the import as now the rumours are surfaceing again. Simple thing is that if it isnt done above board, then sooner or later temptation will take over
  6. BK Thats not all of it as there are a couple of Q stations here now. One of the main reasons is diseases like Newcastles in Ozzie. I have imported racing pigeons on several occasions but the shutters went up a few years back when Newcastles disease broke out in Oz . the interesting thing is that pigeons can-not catch it or even carry it. thing is that its simplier to say no than do all the work involved with allowing the importation of any live stock at all. Now all you need to do is be a pain in the rear and keep poking sticks in the brew to get rid of the lumps.
  7. Most silicones are OK to use, A lot (includeing the one that I use) say not suitable for tanks for one reason only, and thats because the testing hasnt been done (I confirmed this today with my suppliers). I have used Dowl Corning 480 black for all my tanks that Im building at the moment (25 in total) with out any problems but remember to leave plenty of time for them to set properly (I give 2 weeks) The cost of silicone should be no more than $10 but 480 or 580 should be able less than that. Is one better than others, I dont really know but I use the ones that are use in high rise buildings and have confidence in them Hope this helps a bit

  15. Just a thought but wouldnt you be better off with 2 x 50s as if one gives up, the tank wont freeze?

    peat

stops producing the colour you want...? so it stops colouring the water at all? Solid Brick... I take it that thats a brand name? Thanks

    peat

what type/brand of peat do you use, how do you prepare it and what do you do after you've used it. Do you use it time and time again, do you boil it inbetween spawnings, do you smoke it? Thanks people :-?
  18. if your in west Auck, you could pick a blade up from me if you wanted
  19. if you do decide to silicone them, use a hobby razor blade, the type with the stiff back on one edge. There are silicone cleaners that will disolve silicone but I would not use them (I dont even stock them) as if some is spilt or even the fumes can start to desolve the joint on your tank.; Hobby shops will often stock the blades I mentioned
  20. I recieved the list last Friday so is very up to date
