i have 3 young Australe Gold fish and they all look the same apart from 1 has a slightly more pointed rear dorsal fin. Theyre all very light in colour and about 2cm long. 60 days old tomorrow if i'm remembering correctly. Any other sure fire way to tell?
  5. theres a place just down the road from me that sells those large square containers with a steel or ali surround (whichever you want). Was $100 for 1 or $70 for 2, was looking at getting one to use as outside tank for growing goldies and the cage part for the back of the ute but didnt. Alot more than 200ltr tho, will get the name of business when i go past later. Or i did get those blue plastic drums off a mate a while back, cant remember what was in them tho. Cleaned up good but gave them away as horse jumps.
  6. 2 male kribs, they keep to a side of the tank each and pretty much keep to themselves too. only seen them push the bristlenoses around. ... bit strange having it happen in a tetra only tank but i thought it might be a kind of disease? the one in the comm tank is getting around fine, just slightly sideways.
  7. comm tank: neons, glowlights, pearl gouramis, 3 spot gouramis, bristlenoses,3 harlequin rasboras, 2 kribs. tetra only tank: 5 glowlights thanks
  8. Hi all, have had a glowlight that lost it's eye a while back but didnt think much of it. Now i have another, it's quite concave where the eye was. Obviously a slight problem here but theyre in 2 different tanks. 1st was in a comm tank but 2nd was in a tetra only tank. What could be doing this?
  9. hi there, nice fish
  10. so,,, because you coughed in here, does that mean we possibly have it too? And immediate quarantine should be started? Lucky we have a box of bourbon & cola to see us thru the night

    my fry

well........ long time no post. My first australe gold fry (2) are over 30days old now and starting to colour up, eating well etc. My second 2 are 5 days old, eating microworms, seem to be ok as well. Few questions for the wise ones>>>>> How long does it usually take for eggs to eye up and does outside temp play a part? I'm just leaving the container next to the tank. should i start floating the container in the water? the adults have had a break from laying and are now starting again. Is this usual? They are the only ones in a bare bottom tank with a mop and a rock ornament. well, at least i have some to carry on the legacy
  14. Does anyone use these? I have just brought a K-Tel deluxe one (with a fan) but it didnt come with a recipe book. Most recipes on the internet say to cook as per instructions...(which i dont have) Can anyone point me to some good sites or copy some recipes and send them? I'm just trying out apple and bananna slices now, ta.
  15. Once a day or even every second day is fine over summer. Cut it down over winter though as they slow down and you may end up over feeding then. Once a week is fine then. Perhaps the LFS were just being cautious so you dont have too much waste?? oh, By the way.... Goldfish are ALWAYS hungry
  16. Hi Caper, give it a good scrub out with water and leave it out in the sun (if you have sun this time of the year??) to dry. I know it's exciting but always best to fill up for a bit and leave to check for leaks.
  17. I have got 2 fry from my very own australe parents. 4 days old, surviving on microworms. took about 10 days to hatch after eyes appeared in the egg. incubated in water and have the rest of the eggs collected incubating in peat. yay :bounce:
  18. Oh yay, congrats for both of you. And to Paige for becoming a big sister.
  19. Try decreasing your light time. I had some a while back and didnt turn the lights on until 3-4pm, now i have none. (assuming its the same type)
  20. I'm no expert but they reminded me straight away of what the corydoras do pre-egg depositing. good luck
  21. Hi Simon, no, nothing special here. I have had a variety of plants and some live, some dont. The ones that survive seem to multiply well and i just break off and re-plant. I dont know if you can see but theres a mossy type of [algae?] something growing slowly on my little car. I read somewhere it's due to lack of water movement? I dont mind it but there's some on the stones from where i pulled the plants and i'll remove it soon.
  22. Pleas excuse the reflection Before After I have fish!!
  23. cool ppl, i just have dark gravel, but most of the plants have been in there since i've had the tank....3yrs? maybe. i'll leave them and do a water change after, i'm sure it'll be due for one. Will take a before and after pic too.
  24. HI, would like to have a change around with my plants and move all the big ones to the back and tidy up the smaller ones in the front. This is obviously going to cause a stir up with the gravel etc. Do most ppl take the fish out to do this? My tank is just under 300ltrs and has some fast fish in there. Would it be ok to just bucket the fish i can catch, move things around and let the filter do it's job before chucking them back in? It's quite a change i want to do, not just a few bits here and there. Or would you recommend catching MOST fish and draining the tank somewhat? Love the overgrown look but i dont get to see/ watch the fish the way i used to.
