mine are loving the cucumber and shrimp pellets. they are in a tank by themselves and very active.
  5. cool, i'll put him back tomorrow as i saw him out just before. You're back home Ryan?? hopefully all went well.
  6. awww theyre so cute. I have put the dad and babies into a smaller tank cause the cave they were in held water at the bottom (so they were never out of it). Poss 20 +. put a couple shrimp pellets and 1/2 slice cucumber in for them and they are just all over the place now. Def free swimming, 1cm in length, no idea when hatched?? How long will / should dad stay with them? He's not a friendly dude at the best of times so not the type to hang out on the glass. yay.
  7. i'd say spawning, it's pretty ruthless for the gal sometimes.

Like to know this too as i was trying to find my boy last night and i think he's got some babies with him, saw possibly 3 about the 1cm mark. Haven't seen him out for a while.
  9. I found it. Thanks Caryl, i'm a member.
  10. Can someone please explain a few things for me? who i contact for the scheme? How much it costs? i have been collecting the killie eggs again (7 yesterday) obviously i need 10 free swimming fry, 30 days old from when the last became free swimming. Am i on the right track? then i need to fill out form, get a financial member or associate, to witness them an the parents, sign the form, send it somewhere. Anything else? thanks
  11. yep, they were newbies too. yay, thanks guys / gurls... have been a bit worried about that.
  12. dont really know where to post this but i was wondering if many ppl use lead sinkers to weight things down... driftwood etc. I have and told someone and they were really against it... lead in the water blah blah. Its only been a couple of months and i'm hoping the piece will be waterlogged soon and can remove them. Had it weighted with large stones but they kept getting knocked off. (weird shape)

    WCMM ratio

Yep but even cold water tanks heat up during the warm days and with only a small tank it wont take long to get warm like 18deg. I have a 30ltr in the spare room and it gets to 20deg sometimes. I had 3 fems and 3 males in an 18ltr last year with heaps of java moss and some oxygenating plant (looked like grass) on the bottom. One day i noticed tiny black things stuck to the glass,, then free swimming fry every where. All i did was feed them flake everyday and did a small syphon water change every couple of weeks.
  14. at 9.30 for those who missed it last time.

Live food and a water temp difference? ie; add colder water than tank temp. Get yourself a whiteworm culture and they'll get fat (or fatter) With a 10ltr tank I wouldnt be putting them all in at once or there wont be much of a chance for the eggs or fry.

    Gutted!

If said snail cant be identified, can i send them all and let you weed out the good ones from the bad ones? You can keep the ones who dont pass the test and maybe just return the newly reformed ex egg muncher ?? (worth a try )
  17. they came from a pond, just broke the tubers up to fit into pots and have been dormant over the winter. Thanks anyway.

    Gutted!

There's an idea.... i dont remember which one it was but happy to send the family.
  19. ahh, ok will chuck them in the pond then.
  20. has anyone tried these in a warm tank? or are they strictly for cold water? i have a couple of small tubers that arent in a pond and just figuring out what to do with them??

    Gutted!

Been collecting the australe gold's eggs over the last few days and just popping them into a floating container. this morning there was a snail in the container and no eggs left. i'm so gutted as i havent collected their eggs before and finally have a tank freed up to raise the fry seperate. Will have to put the container into the raising tank now... lesson learnt.
  22. Yeah know what you mean. The friend that i've asked about the salt for has a beautiful 6ft tank that uses up most of his $$$. Would be interested in having a small cold water marine myself with a couple of hermet crabs in it. Never seen any round here tho. But thats another day.
  23. Thanks for that smokn, i'll pass the details on. Would love to buy your clown fish but never had marine before and probably not a good fish to start with aye? Dreams are free... after visiting the seahorse farm in adelaide i had my heart on a couple of them too but again, not the best to start with.
  24. gave them to a friend to try as i already have quite a few floating containers with fry and a couple hatched but some got fungus and it spread from there. the ones that hatched are still going ok, possibly some were infertile and started fungus from there. fingers crossed they'll feel like doing it again soon. i'll put them in a bigger container too.
  25. try just syphoning out some muck and adding fresh water before getting a filter. As the days get warmer, so does the water therefore less oxygen for the fish. there are algae blocks you can get from fish shops and garden centres too. i try and clean once a week in summer and even just adding fresh water on really hot days to keep up with evaporation.
