  1. I use fastway here and theyre great, understand about live goods and they say if it's packaged properly then it should be ok. Im the same as you,,, rang around and told nope... dont deliver fish etc, but have recieved them many times. Got a saddle delivered by nz couriers that was the wrong size and rang to see how much to send back and they told me the box size was too big? um,,, you delivered it, "no it's too big for our couriers" , but you delivered it!!, "Sorry cant help you". Ended up taking it to the post shop and sent it no prob. :roll:
  2. You can get batting from a material shop thats really close knit fibre. It's cheap too.
  3. Hey Luke, thanks for the insight. To condition them seperate would it be best to have the female in the spare tank and introduce the male?
  4. yesterday i nipped all the camboba in half and planted the tops in the same corner to have a tidy collection of soft plants. This morning I was watching the glowlights hoonong around after feeding and noticed it was 1 male and 1 female. They spawned 3 different times over 20min. I took the 3 main plants they were releasing the eggs over and put them in a floating container (just 2 see what would come about). Anyway,,, they kept going all day. All 3 males and 3 females were having fun, even at tea time they were still going. Quite unusual to watch as they would turn upsidedown and shoot the eggs upwards. So...... now my Q's: Was going to buy more to have a large group schooling, do I (a) leave them to try and breed in the comm tank (with bristlenoses and a few gourami) (b) get more © set up a smaller tank with marbles, plants, heater and sponge filter and try to spawn them in that tank? Has anyone had much success in breeding and raising glowlights? Once (or if) spawned in a seperate tank, should I add something to stop eggs getting fungus or just keep dark? Not keen on adding peat to the bottom. My water must be soft enough anyway for them to enjoy their time in there. Any help would be appreciated.

  9. As far as what type?? i just brought it as an amazon sword. its only small with short stems and long wide (broad) leaves.
  10. Hey Spoon, how did ya get on with your plant and stem etc? mine is doing the same now and is about 10cm from coming out of the water. Wondering how long it took to create little plantlets that you could remove?
  11. Sorry to jump on your ship but... Hubby and I have had this discussion many a time about his oxy bottle (used to cut steel). He reckons cause it's not medical grade that I shouldn't use it for the fish. So is it alright to use then?
  12. AWESOME NEWS, these things all have a way of working themselves out. It was obviously meant to be. Will be up for a visit when our new one is a bit older. (long journey for small kids)

    Fish dying

    evrything i've read about fin rot says to improve water qualityy. but you say it has fresh water constantly... the only other thing, were the fish all from the same source? and chucked in the same time or added gradually? Quote from my bible:: Bit of a shame it's happening when theyre going.
  14. I just put my minnows in theire summertime bath yesterday. Lots of fine leafed plants, java moss, lillys for shade. Im the same as caryl, just top up with the hose, syphon the muck into a bucket (to make sure i didnt get any fish) every now and then. Only i have a shade cloth over the bath to stop the leaves getting in and to deter our cat. I wouldnt put paradise fish in with them either.
  15. Thought the same myself,,, i guess it is if you intend on drinking them. Really it's no worse than seeing bettas in tiny display bowls with hardly any water, no filtration, no life (IMO).

    Sterbai Corys

    Same rule applys, feed them when free swimming. microworms an bbs are small enough. always exciting to have babies........ there must be something in your water.
  17. Love your pond pics Caryl. Hope to have a biggie too one day.
  18. just one of my ponds gets something similar, not as bright tho. only in certain times too. i did read somewhere it had something to do with the oxygen levels but i cant remember exactly what. I just scoop it off and fill up with the hose but a pond that large i'm not too sure what you'd do. Perhaps Caryl has an idea? being a pond champ and all.
  19. There are a couple of fish i would like to purchase in New Plymouth, pick up only. Is there anyone on here that could spare a moment to pick them up and send them off to me? In wanganui, so not going far. Will pay for your troubles, courier (of course)and send a heat pad 1st to be used. They are only small so will not need a large box and come down on the same day so not much stress for them. any help would be great Thanks
  20. Ask stimpy29, i went to his place on the weekend to verify a breeding batch of his kribs. He's the only person i know whos bred them. (althought im sure theres heaps on here) Congrats too by the way, glad they have spawned for you. :bounce:

    using the mop

    yeah, i only made one as i said i hadnt done it before. have taken it out but will keep the eggs in mind for when the others are in their tank. When the weather warms up the WCMM are going outside again so might have a go at raising a few eggs to go in the comm tank.

    using the mop

    Yep i made it out of nylon wool stuff not 100% wool. tied a piece of poly to the top and it hangs about mid way. Will the eggs be ok in a container outside the tank? The lounge is pretty warm all day, cooling slightly at night. Will i need to aerate too or is a bit of weed ok in there? I'm pretty happy just concentrating on the eggs i've hatched from Barrie, dont want to get too many going at once and neglecting the main ones.
  23. Cleaned out the pond today and 5 of the 6 paradise fish i brought before winter have survived. One of the males clearly has an injury to his back and has a white fluff ball on the dorsal fin. His fin almost looks gone. I have netted him out and dabbed meth blue on it as this is all i have to use. Q= should i keep treating with this? I found some wunder cure in the cupboard, should i use this too? Is it ok too keep injured one with the rest or should i seperate? Unlucky to have 4 males and 1 female... should i look at placing 3 of the males in seperate ponds? thanks.
