there's been this very fine green hair looking stuff growing from the java moss and tangling the other plants. What is it and how do i rid the tank of it? I'm turning the lights off during the day, pulling it out every 2wks or so but it's still growing. looks unsightly. In the other tank i have clumps of fine moss stuff growing in spots, on the filter, on the heater, on fake plants etc. This tank doesnt have much artificial light as it's close to the back door and lit this way (not directly).

Im just going through the process of setting up a small home based business now. Selling pet treats & accessories. Tried the ones in the paper and online and theyre just (hidden pyramid) schemes. Waste of time and money to me. Hopefully this will keep me busy as well as let me have time with the little ones.

My hubby ordered sky sport last night to tape / watch the superstock champs and couldnt work out the video,,, so set up to watch it at 1.20 am but didnt wake up. Could anyone on here possibly have it on tape?? We were in Oz when they were on in Wangas so thats why he wanted to see it.

Put the milk into a bottle, glass is good so you can see it. Let it stand for a bit, the cream will sit on the top. Carefully pour off. Preferably onto weetbix..... yumm

Hey Supasi..... I used to go to a place between Patea and Mokoia for crawlies. Only theyre black / dk brown, not like Ian's one. And they do go red when introduced to very hot water. 8) We would stop at patea river (town side) grab some mud worms (the ones that suck on to you) thread them onto nylon then onto a bamboo rod, not quite surfcasting size. You just stick the rod into the stream and can feel them tugging on the worms. The small straem used to be surrounded by bush but the farmer has cleared it, you can see it from the road (well depending on how fast you drive). My uncle still goes there today. If youre interested i'll check a map to find the exact location.

Have just brought a cute 30ltr moulded tank for my daughters room, it has a hood with a purple light, 15000k 10w, Is this going to be ok with a few small plants like baby tears? I've only seen purple lights in a marine tank before. Fish are going to be either couple small corys, WCMM & guppy babys. OR My 6 new (baby) paradise fish until they get bigger then the above.

I have mine in a marg container (just got a few to start off again) they get fed dog meati-bites that have been soaked in water until swollen. You can put a little oil in the water but i read this makes the worms fatty. They get fed 2 little biscuts every 2-3 days. This kept my last lot going real well.

yeah i tried to move the goldies to another pond. But i know i have missed a few. My guess it's about 500-600 ltr? It has some oxygenating plants in there for cover. Next time i syphon clean i'll try to move more. Thanks.

Thanks, looked in on them last night once the rain had ceased and theyre more curious than the goldfish that are in there. Will see how it goes, was thinking about getting a plastic or perspex sheet to cover the top just to help with the bad weather.

After months of umming i have decided to get some paradise fish for the tub outside. Well to see how they go out there anyway. Probably not the best time to get them but they have been bred and raised in a cold water tank (18 deg) so the move wont be too much different. I picked them up at lunchtime today and was surprised to find 6 (ordered 4) But sweet as, I rang to thank them. Sat the bag in the pond, in-between the rain i shot out to tip them in and had another wee looksie. They had coloured up since floating in there and there were 5 real nice blue and 1 quite a bit duller. Theyre only 4cm max so i thought it's too early to tell boy/girl. Maybe not. ?? Only seen them once before in Ryans fish room. But i love gouramis ... and cant or Shouldn't fit any more in the community tank and these guys (or girls) look so close to them, so what the hey. You sometimes just gotta have. Plus i brought about 20 plants so the comm tank is looking full.

I have 3 corydora aeneus that look like this And their babies look like this.... almost exactly... but they have a dark stripe from their nose, over the eye, to the dorsal fin. What has caused this? Its the 1st time i have raised their fry and wondering if it's just temporary, like a camo disguise or a throw back to having sterbai breeding somewhere? Funny thing is... i got these 3 off a breeder who used to own a pet store.

They kinda look like those 'cats eyes' you get at the beach. cool 8)

YAY :bounce: Congrats to all of you.

thought it was about time the youngins left the floating container. (corys) Theyre about 3 ish weeks old. Feeding hapily on egg yolk, bbs and powdered flake. I emptied the container into the tank 2 days ago and have been looking out ever since. WELL>>>>>>>>>> toinight i saw one (there was 14-15) and it had doubled in size. WOW I'm stoked theyve done so well. Did see a couple of others too but not as big.

Oh sorry to hi-jack..........BUT WHERE??? I dont do town that often.
-
I have the same but in reverse. my temp is 26-27 and i'm getting mostly males.

Hi there, good to see another vegas person on here. There are a couple of us around. I currently have 4 swordtails, 3 males and 1 possibly female but a bit little to sex properly. They are orange finned and black stripe on body, with black sword. Except for little one as it is orange with all black fins and 2 black dots above the mouth. looks like a little hitler. 8)

I know the type you mean. I'm budgeting a bit so crush the flake myself into a powder. Plus if my daughter tries to help she somehow (accidentally of course) always tips the flake out :-?
-
Thats good to know. They are too small to eat the BBS but they sure chase them. Just feeding egg yolk for now. And trying to keep the parents hapily fed too.
-
Yup, i feel bad cause i didnt check in the bucket... but then again, i wasnt expecting them to be there. Fingers crossed the parents leave them alone as i have no where to put them.
-
Yep, i agree. thats why i'm only using small lemonade bottles not large ones. I am just using a 20ml syringe to suck a few shrimp out once hatched and then rinsing them for a feed.
-
Ok so thanks to Barrie I have had a go at setting up a BBS system so i can have a conutinous supply. As i have a moulded tank with a lid, the usual way with clips on the side of the tank wasnt going to work for me. 1st i tried an upside down lemonade bottle with the bottom cut off and an airline tube connected to the lid. This was held in place by one of those suckers that you get with heaters. Perfect sizing for the neck of the bottle. But as luck would have it, one night the sucker let go. (you always have 1) so then i tried the other sucker i had and just put a rubber band around the top of the bottle to keep it afloat. This seemed to work fine. So i hooked up another bottle, with the main airline going into the complete bottle and the second airline coming out of the top of that bottle and going into the lid of the secong bottle. (rembering the bottles are upside down) Then i had an idea about polystyrene. If i cut out 2 holes and just poke the bottles thru?? But the bottles just went straight thru. So i cut the poly in half and just attached each end with a band to my 2 suckers. This way is working so far as i can take one bottle out and the other isnt afftected. Its more to keep them steady. By the way, i have 1 bottle with sea water and one bottle with my own mix (experiment) of 250ml warm water, 1 teaspoon rock salt - dissolved, 1/2 teaspoon BBS. My tank temp is around 25-27 and they are both hatching fine. Although i did think my mix had them hatching faster? but then again it could have been the fact i started with warm water. Any other suggestions or comments welcomed.

Just doing the monthly-ish syphon of the tanks and cleaned the filter of the smaller tank as-well... only small filter.... and i happen to look harder than normal and found about 10-20 of the tiny little fry. I found 4 WCMM in the pond with young shubunkins when i was doing a big cleanout. Decided to put them into the little tank inside with a carpet of oxygenating plant and some oxy-weed + floating java moss. I guess that and the occasional larvae / freze dried worms etc, made their day. These fry would be 2-3mm at the most. Lucky i have some egg yolk ready and bbs on the go. YAY :bounce:
