  1. oh ok, how old are they generally at 6-7cm? i think i've had them for 6 months and they were 1.5cm when i got them. I was woried they weren't getting enough food and put corguette in but the darn snails just devour it instead.
  2. I swapped some fish yonks ago for 4 tiny bristlenoses. I have only ever seen 3 out at the same time, but 2 are about 3-3.5cm long and the other 1 is close to 5cm long. None showing any bristles but the big one is real bossy. Chasing the others away from food etc. Is it likely the big one will be a female?

    Leopard Fish

Saw some in Wetpets in Palmy last time we were down there, they were tiny, like 1- 1.5cm max. $7.50 each!!! I asked if you brought a few would you get a discount and they said no, so i said i wasnt going to get any at that price for that small. They guy looked in and said,,, yep they are a bit small aye? How about $5 each? but you cant have them for a week as there was something in the tank that was making them die so we are treating them at the moment. Ahhhh ........... no thanks. Neat looking little fish tho.

    HRV

We have a heat transfer kit : Thermostat, ducting, fan, coverplates. Installed ourselves, cost $100 for 1 room transfer + sparky to wire in thermostat. Have since added a T piece and gone into daughters new room. We have the intake part above the wood burner and the other outlet in the hall, by the doors of the bed rooms. A much cheaper way to heat the house at night and have noticed less condensation on the windows. We had never considered a DVS or similar due to the cost. Now the in-laws have done their house too and rave on how much warmer it is.
  5. Gravel vac every 3rd day from memory to get rid of the spores that have dropped off? I dosed then vacced on 3rd day, repeated 3 times and it was gone. Good luck
  6. What a beautiful girl. I like the slimming black look.
  7. I have one teenager (cory) that wasn't looking too good yesterday, laying on the side, not moving much. Today i thought it was dead but every now and then it hoons up to the surface, twists and turns, flips and flops back down to lay on it's side. So I took it out and put in in a floating container, added some fresh water, an airline and watched. Now its just laying upside down and breathing real fast. I know its not going to make it but could i have done anything different? (apart from taking it out yesterday)
  8. hmm i'm just thinking about getting a couple just to have something different. I think 2 of the same sex would probably be better. Really liked the look of the females with the red belly. Albino ones would be cool but i dont think i can get them down here. Thanks for your help
  9. Are kribs and corys ok together? I'm just doing a bit of reading about them and one place stated they sould not be kept with other bottom dwellers. The person i got my large tank off suggested them but i wasnt too sure at the time. :-? Also if i ended up with a male and female breeding, from what i've read it's hard to pass the babies on?
  10. Im heading down to Welly in 2 weeks if you can get them to Wangas?
  11. all the males have a gonopodium, mine seem to be there before any colouring. Not too sure about 5 days tho??
  12. I have 2 boys and 1 girl but thats how i brought them. They used to be breeding stock for a small fish store that was in town. Because i have lots of WCMM and swordtail fry in the same tank im not doing the big water changes that seem to get them in the mood.
  13. I was lucky enough to have been given some killie eggs, due to be wet 1-6-08. Well i took some tank water, added it to the peat in a container and waited...... that was at 8am, still cant see anything now. :-? I had a looksee through the peat before wetting and didnt see any eggs but thought that was just my untrained eye. Should i bag it back up for another 2 weeks or cut my losses?

    corydora eggs

Mine lay small white or clear(ish) eggs about the size of a match head. I find them on the glass in clumps of 15-20, on a braod leafed plant, on the filter, heater, basically anywhere they want. They ones that are white arent fertile and i leave them to get eaten.
  15. So perhaps i should remove the lady for a wee while?
  16. Did you go to where i suggested or were my directions a bit hard to follow? OR did you find a new place?? do tell
  17. As the title says, is it normal for swordtails to have babies over a few days? I put 2 females into floating containers yesterday afternoon and there was 1 baby last night in 1 container, now both have 2 babies and still look huge. (last lady had 5) How long does most ppl leave their mums in containers/ hatcheries?
  18. My breeding corys aren't interested and haven't been for quite some. Since i saved some eggs and had a go at raising them really. Is it the weather? Tank temp still 26, Is it because there's 2 of their babys in the tank with them? (Dont want to put the bubs in the comm tank as its too big to catch them again) I've done small water changes, cause of the bubs, (and there's wcmm + swordtail fry in there) They get live food regularly, catfish pellets, I say hi everyday...... What else could it be?
  19. Hi and welcome. Sorry i cant help you with the filter but the red light sounds interesting??? Perhaps to set the mood? :-?

guppies, swordtails, platties, mollies, glow-light tetras, small albino bristlenoses.
  23. Awesome Karlos, thanks for that. I'm guessing more water changes will help too. ATM i only do it once a month  slack i know, but i promised myself when we got this tank i would not be consumed by it... testing, plant fertilisers etc. Will try it anyway then look into chemicals. Thanks again.
