  1. It is to do with the new website development, yes.
  2. Agreed and also virtually impossible to catch - they are exceptionally fast. Also known as the silver flying fox.
  3. There are flying fox and blackline flying fox - the later has the black stripe going right through the tail, - these are the SAE. Otos from your LFS or look through the for sales as one of our forum members managed to breed them and was selling.
  4. SAE are Black Line Flying foxes. Otos prefer brown algae most. SAE only eat the new tufts of BBA, not the established stuff. Personally I wouldn't put a fighter in the same tank as an SAE - SAE get big (12cm) and being from the shark family they can be bolshy.
  5. I know you can get prazi in various formats but HFF sells it $25 from memory but not sure how many mls that is, in the liquid form.
  6. I don't believe that BN will cause a problem with your discus.
  7. Agreed. A hair appointment is necessary for a trim for split ends and a 'treatment'.
  8. My only suggestion would be to use formalin as a last resort.
  9. So do I, but thats not going to stop me spending time with my family and friends.
  10. :cr3: Wishing everyone on here a relaxing and enjoyable break with family and friends. :cr7:
  11. I've also had cory eggs that go fluffy and they have still hatched. I was told to leave them in for 7 days and if they hadn't hatched by then they were not going to.
  12. Amitskaw, I was not either. Is this for the Tom Barr method?
  13. If you go to the top of this page, click on the FNZAS Home, it will take you to the FNZAS website, which this forum is part of. Among the headings across the page you will see Plants. Click on this and it will take you to the plant databases. It will give you a very good idea of what plants are here and allowed, what the lighting requirements are etc. I would give you the direct link to Plants but the Home page has other information on it which you might like to have a look at.
  14. Both the above are correct in that Greg can repair them and that the cost of getting him to do so, because of the amount of time involved, is around the cost of a new tank. Here is the link to tank makers - viewtopic.php?f=24&t=42159
  15. The Breeding Scheme is still continuing in its current format. The survey, which was held, will be discussed at the February meeting of the Executive. For distant members I suggest you check with the FNZAS Breeding Co-ordinator as to what the current process is for you to be able to get around the fact that it is not easy to have breedings verified. It was changed last year, but I can't recall exactly what you are required to do.
  16. The NZKA has no current financial members. There are several former NZKA members who are current FNZAS financial members as they belong to other clubs.
  17. Looks great and I am very jealous
  18. AR128 has the filter that trickles in from above? If so then whether or not another filter will be better really depends on the tail type your fighter has i.e. long tail/hm/ct or plakat. My experience with the tanks with overhead filters and fighters with long tails has been that (if there is a power head and quite a bit of current and water movement due to the overhead trickle) the fish does either hide or has a much shortened life span due to the need to fight to hold its body and fins upright. Either an undergravel or a sponge filter will work better - under gravel while more fiddly to put in that sort of tank will maintain your tank best or a very low powered internal filter. Plakats will be fine with more water movement.
  19. He's very cute - now you will have little time for fish
  20. Of the fish you have I would say it's the angels. Fish that fit in their mouths are going to become dinner. I am assuming that no bodies have been found?

    PMDD

I don't know what you need specifically for PMDD but I get my ferts from Stockers Hydrophonics in cambridge. Minimum amount of each is 1kg however they no longer break the 25kg bags of potassium nitrate down. It can be purchased from garden centres but I don't recall what it is sold as.
  22. Sounds good for both of you. Did you get steel reinforcing in the floor when the concrete was laid? Remember to ensure that the floor is level as well If you can it would be better to put the insulation and power in before moving the tanks over otherwise its going to require double handling. Remember you may need to get some switchboard work done to for the garage to accommodate the extra power loading. We have a resident sparky at our place who never ceases to be amazed at the number of shoddy, half done, fire hazards that exist in the Auckland area which relate to badly installed wiring and overloaded boards. Would you take some decent photos of your work in progress for me for the magazine?
  23. Sandaz, if you have low stocking and are doing regular water changes then yes, the tank could still be cycling. Because a reading of 1 is toxic to fish I believe that the ammonia is being held 'locked up' by the stability. Your best bet is to continue with small daily water changes while using Prime. If the tank is cycling you should see the ammonia drop and nitrite rise etc until the cycle is completed. Frankenfish, If you are still getting ammonia appearing you will need to look for the cause. Could be any of the following - overstocking, filter not working properly or being cleaned out wrongly, overfeeding, water changes insufficient, plants decaying, dead fish. A tank once cycled should not show ammonia if the maintenance and care schedule is is right. If you have the ammonia sorted then well done
  24. There is no product available commercially called Seachem cycle so did you use stability or prime? If you use stability without actually adding the fish at the same time to produce waste, imo the bacteria is not going to build. Your tank has begun the cycling process since you added the fish. Prime, from my understanding renders the ammonia 'safe' but you will still get a reading. Having never used it I can't verify whether this is right.
  25. OMG! Do you gentlemen realise the number of weeks it has taken me to get images of a blue eye triple fin for the new website. I have literally had to beg photographers for their flickr images and even then the resolution is still very low.
