  1. Auckland Fishkeepers is the only Auckland based club. Li@m on this forum is the Secretary or email [email protected] or as said above the info is in the clubs section. There have been a number of new fish keepers join the club in the last 6-8 months and they are all a good group of people
  2. Your only option is to move the tank if its the light causing the algae. The only solution is to remove the cause of algae.
  3. I absolutely agree. I have gone 2 - 3 days and it has been fine.
  4. They are all named - the names are above each photo
  5. How big is the tank? Depending on the size the few fish you have may be enough. BN and any plecs are poop machines so adding one will be more than enough. You tank will be fine for the first few days - it could take anywhere from 5 - 21 days for the ammonia levels to rise (cycling to begin). You will need to test daily to know where you are at with the cycling process.
  6. If you look through the anabantoids section there is a lot of info on breeding fighters however unless you are prepared to use quality male and female fighters with the same tail type then no one will buy them any way. There is a huge amount of rubbish currently being bred in the country with mixed tail types mostly the only ones available for sale privately. You will need a large number of tanks and containers and be prepared to give up a lot of time if you want to do it properly. You will also need to decide how you will dispose of the defects ie clove oil, freezer, feed to bigger fish. Flushing is not an option.
  7. If I took live anything into our local Post Office they would say no. I was sending filter baskets to Naseby the other day and was given the tenth degree as to whether or not there was any liquid in the box. That was despite the fact that the media was clearly dry given the rattling when she shook the box and listened. Post Haste is brilliant

That looks terrific Caryl - just beautiful
  9. Level of quietness of the air pumps I have used or still use, ranked from quietest to noisiest - Stellar (now known as Aqua One Stellar) Eheim Aqua One & Hailea = As far as reliability goes I haven't had issues other than worn out diaphragms with any of them. I personally prefer Stellar.
  10. Does anyone have a small and/or medium size dogs car harness that clips on to a seat belt that they don't want? We have a new pup who will grow into a 30kg dog so we don't want to buy new as it will only last a few weeks but we need to secure her in our car. Please pm if you can help.
  11. That looks so much like LA it could be his twin :rolfl:
  12. Given a piece with about 5 leaves sells from between $5 - $10 I would think around the $50 mark. I would certainly pay $50 for that clump
  13. It depends why you are culling ie not enough space, deformed fry etc. They grow at different rates so often people sepearate them in to tanks depending on their size. This prevents the bigger fry getting the bulk of the food and allows the smaller ones to catch up. If you are culling due to deformity then do it as you see them appear. If it is because you don't have enough tanks for the number of fish wait until you really have to as often the slower growers will turn out with the best form. I might be interested if you have some fry to get rid of
  14. It is best for you to only change one of the filter cartridges at a time. Replace the charcoal wool one first, wait a couple of weeks and then replace the other. If you replace all at the same time you will cause a mini cycle in your tank as you have removed all the good bacteria along with the media.
  15. You can use bleach but it needs to be rinsed out really well and then preferably dried in the sun. Make sure no bleach smell remains. Do not use any type of soap. White vinegar also works well.

Oh Wow!! Thats going to look great heavily planted. Keep me up to date please
  17. Crypts often melt, sometimes for no reason at all. Yes, leave them there and they will regrow, sometimes it takes months, sometimes a few days till they start but they will come back. I've lost half the plants in my tank including crypts in the last week due to having to medicate the tank. I will be waiting for them to regrow as well.
  18. Back at you gentlemen Off on a group bike ride, leaving now Clearly I didn't see the New Year in Happy 2014 everyone - make it a good year!
  19. How hot is your tank? The only time I have had issues with bn is when the weather warmed up and the tank got too hot. Oops sorry missed that bit.
  20. This looks awesome. Would you be open to visitors once it is completed? I would love to get an article and photos for our magazine.

  23. Cyano is a bacteria so no, no fish will eat it. Try increasing the water movement in that area.
  24. New tank syndrome? Or could it be the type of lighting causing the cloudy look? Love these tanks, saw them at Living Reef when I was there in November.
