  1. lol no - it has slowed a little as no ferts added for a couple of weeks. In another 10 days I will start back with dosing every 2nd day.
  2. Cam horemani is the tank buster I have, the one you were studying when you were here
  3. Yes the behaviour does differ among the species and more so among the dwarf species. Often it is dependent on the other fish in the tank ie if the fish are bold and out it tends to make the corydora feel more secure. Sometimes the more hiding places you have around the tank the more the fish feel they can hide and tend to come out more often knowing they can duck back under cover. Other times the cory will remain out of sight until you go away. I've kept both sterbai and peppered and the sterbai were much more often seen.
  4. :rolfl: Surprised you can get up this early if you are testing it out at night time!

    RODI

What do you all do about RO water - do you have units and if so what brands. How well do they work, how hard are they to use?

    New Article

Its a great article, the final of the series. We await a new series on another species of fish or the corydoras, any offers? Those who were members last year should recall reading it in one of the magazine issues
  7. Possibly not that strange - was one of the parents a half moon? When I was breeding I managed to get quite a few double tails from halfmoon spawns. They were easier to pick, they were the small fry that were stumpy and swam with a funny motion. Most of them were deformed in some way and few grew to adults.
  8. wild caught? could be due to different locations causing the variation
  9. Nice fish!! One has quite a few more spots than the other.
  10. How long has the tank been running? Where did you get the silica sand from? Okay tests? What exactly are the results? Are they your own test kits? What brand algae remover did you use and did you follow the instructions exactly?
  11. Depending on your filter type you can move it so that there is increased surface water movement. That assists the gas exchange in the tank.
  12. Who would know. The other question would be were the adults actually bred overseas or not. You would expect true imports to be pure breds otherwise perhaps the importers need to locate better breeders. You have a good eye so all should be good.
  13. It really depends why the tail is ragged - is it because another guppy has nibbled it or is it because its caught it on something. If so good clean water will help it heal. Same with fin rot - unless its bacterial - good clean water will help it heal. Melafix will assist but it won't be the sole reason it's healing. If your tank water is not in good condition melafix is not going to do anything to improve it. Furan is a carcinogen, use it carefully if you have to.
  14. A male GBA will have big bristles on his nose. A female at the most will have a few thin whiskers.
  15. Hi Mollymate - HFF had them in stock. Just a suggestion - if you go up to the users control panel you can put your location in under your avatar. It really does make it easier to get local responses.
  16. Monique, am I imagining it or do the fry look like they have small crowns.
  17. White cloudy water is often known as 'new tank syndrome' and will eventually clear away, however eventually can range from days - weeks - months as your tank balances itself again. It can be exacerbated by rotting leaves and left over food. Vacuuming and small regular water changes can help it but if you can not bear to wait you can purchase a flocculent from your LFS, which binds the small algae particles which the filter/vacuum can not pick up, into larger masses which are more easily removed. This is sold as water conditioner.
  18. murky - as in white cloudy, brown cloudy?
  19. Leave the ant bait out overnight in the container or place the container just near where you see them. They will come to it but probably not while they are being watched

    Reefkeepers

I'm hoping for some suggestions here. I am trying to register with Reefkeepers.co.nz however it will not allow me to use my xtra email address. Can anyone on here assist with this? Thanks
  21. Here is the link to the list of fish allowed into the country http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/files/ih ... ic.all.pdf (incidentally the link to this list is only a few threads above this one). You need to know that just because a fish appears on the list, it does not mean that it has ever come in, is currently in, or is about to be imported in to NZ.
