  1. cheers for that discusguru. Yes adrienne cory's and the size i'm talking about on the krib's the female i got would be about 3cm long the male I've got would easily be 8 to 9 cm. I don't wont to cause a debate about it, I was just concerned really. I know its all about numbers for the big fish shops. But when a tiny Krib as small as that cost $14.90 each I was rather gutted at the size when it turned up. And for one to end up dead pissed me off. I guess the moral of the story is if you want decent fish. Buy them yourself and don't let others do it on your behalf lol ..... Thought my dad would have known better as him and a few other were the first to start up the wairarpa club when it was going back when the dinosaurs were still walking the earth hehe .
  2. I don't like buying fish that are to small. As you never know if they are young or just haven't had a good start to life and stunted. I brought some peppered cats not long ago from the same place again 2 died within a day and 2 are still alive. I was told they were imported and they were tiny but that was my choice I wanted to breed some peppered cats, Ive been feeding them lots of good foods water changes etc and they Have hardly grown. makes me wonder if these have also had a slow start to life. As for the Krib's I didn't get them myself I had someone get them for me becuase they were going past and I needed some female Krib's as I have 4 huge males already.
  3. Hey guys just thought I'd post quickly on here as I'm still shocked at the size of the fish the pet shops are selling. I got my father to call into a well know store in Auckland to get some female Kribensis when he got them to me they were so small it wasn't funny. not only that one arrived dead. which I mainly blame on stress as it was like a baby, as it was in a poly box to keep them warm. I wish the stores would start getting better quality fish. What does everyone else think ?
  4. How are the angel fish going ? Have you managed to keep many alive ?
  5. I feel your pain my Crypt was looking great on the weekend and so was my sword plant but all of a sudden they are melting The only thing I did was top up some water in the tank and add 2 green cory cats. Really frustrating as the swords was looking amazing. Good luck with your crypt. Many years ago I had a 4 ft tank and the bottom was completely covered in crypt it all started melting i pulled all the leaves out then decided to pull all the roots out. I then threw it all away John Gilliland ...a very good fish keeper in his time told me they grow back by then it was to late lol.
  6. That sucks ej. Hope you get back into it bud, Don't let it take you down we all only live a short life and we should try and make the most of it, and work together. The money thing always sucks I Know we all seem to keep feeding the big fish at the top Like MAF and the Government just so we can enjoy our hobby. But hopefully things in time will get a bit easier. Maybe vote The Internet party lol. Are you keeping any fish at all these days ?
  7. Thats cool ej I hear you. Im a bit like you I like to share the hobby and encourage more people to keep fish. Id like to cover my cost but that never happens if you know what I mean. I normally give plenty away. Is the species you brought in still going strong?
  8. It get warmer the further north the eggs get sent :bggrn: just kidding. just like to have a try with some Alan that's all. I'm no expert on killie's yet lol ej That's crazy $7000.00 ? did you get caught doing the illegal thing? or is this what you do importing ? $7000.00 sounds really extreme either that or you have an amazing setup with millions of fish I was just referring to the good old days when they use to come to NZ via post with no worry's of MAF etc.
  9. Thanks for that alanmin. I not to worried on what species Matt_man just would like to give them and try and being up in Kerikeri it always hard to source live fish. Plus I don't trust couriers with live fish as the last few fish I had sent all died..... :an!gry I lost 6 blue diamond discus in one lot and a Bangai Cardinal in another. I was told that Killie's use to be posted to New Zealand from overseas in envelopes back in the day so thought I would see if anyone in NZ would mind posting some for me to try. I will pay for postage and the eggs. Just I haven't breed killies before and would like to tick it of my list of breeding's as they sound interesting. I'm closing down my marine system and getting back to fresh water tropical at the moment I'm only doing guppies and kribensis, so something else would be nice. Cheers from Chris :spop:
  10. Hi guys I was just wondering if anyone around here has any Killie fish eggs. I would like to give them a try Ive seen pictures of these guys before and that is about as far as I have got. So if anyone can help I would be really grateful. Thanks again from Chris
  11. Wow stunning looking fish Caserole. Good to see some nice fish being breed. Im still at the start trying to find some nice pairs. but very limited up here in Kerikeri. I have lots or inbreed guppy's but it look like the males have reverted back to maybe wild type looking more like some form of endler. But i was using them for turtle food as some had half orange tails etc and didn't look that great to me. please keep the pics coming of your nice fish. :cophot:
  12. I wish we had Leopard fish in our waterways up here but instead we have millions of Gambesia lol
  13. A club would have been a great thing its a shame it wont work up here in northland. Its always good to go see other people setups etc. I have been tempted to give up fish keeping because not many people up here with the same interest. The only place that sells fish here where i am is pretty crap for selection of fish aswell. And who want to pay $12 for a male guppie come on hehe. Good luck with trying to maybe start a club keep me intouch with what happens.
