  1. Wet Pets PNorth - thats where one of my Shovelnose Cats ended up
  2. I insulated the walls with Batts just like you did. I then lined the whole room with 50mm Polystyrene completely wrapped with Polyethylene plastic sheet, and once installed EVERY gap/join was tapped to seal things up. My fish room still has the dry dust on the roof and walls from when I built it - 15 years ago!!! It has never had moisture problems. To heat it I went to an electrical store and purchased one of those wall mounted thermostats and wired it into a female plug, then I plugged in a 1200W fan heater, set the thermostat to your desired temp and bingo... one heated fish room. It is very efficient and cheap to heat, the key to it all - stacks of insulation and 100% sealing ( E.G: no draughts = no heat out & no cool outside air in ). If you have any doubts then ask anyone on here who has been to my room and seen the results :dnc1:
  3. I hope she does, I have had plenty of 'first timers' hold full term. Sounds like you have been taking great care of them
  4. They are a beautiful fish, my original male...
  5. I will see if I can take some decent pic's for ya sometime soon. I did submit several species way back when but I have no idea why they didn't make it to the list??? Cyprochromis Lepstoma ( Jumbo ) was one I was hoping would make the list but ...... the species I had back then, if only I knew what a sad state of affairs things would become :-( If I get these guys breeding I will spread the love like i did back then, that way they should not be lost. A lot of the desirable species and strains came from out of my fish room back in the day and they are mostly still here in NZ if you know who to talk to ;-) Cuckoo's are next on my list to get, always wanted those and I see they are about here and there now :-)
  6. Yep, Placidochromis Milomo. Have had them for years, way before the new permitted list came out. Lost the parents due to a tank melt down but got some young off them.
  7. So has anyone got VC10's here in NZ? If so, show us your pic's. Well they spawned earlier than expected!, just hope the female holds ( this being her first batch ). The little guy is coming along nicely.
  8. I looked up the link you gave with the pic's and had to look into it all. After quite a while chasing things up it appears I got to the bottom of it. Have no idea were the rest have gone, not looking good for these in NZ now The only way I can help out the people who got them is to offer some Brown Haps - that is ALL I have now. The fish room is pulled down and it's all gone. I was always very careful with breeding etc too, guess thats the risk you take when they end up in someone elses tank.
  9. Well,I got to the bottom of it all it would appear. The original parents were in a tank with a rouge male Blue Dolphin and it appears as though some cross breeding occurred with the first batch  The second spawning was observed by my friend and it was between the two A Cal' ( they were essentially on their own at this point ). So the second batch is OK. What a bummer, it was hard work getting them in the first place. I have no idea who got what now either. It was out of my control unfortunately, sorry people
  10. www.axolotl.org Everything you need on this site
  11. Axies will breed at 1 year of age. I personally have not found that breeding then early is a problem, just do not spawn them constantly and give them some time for growth between spawns. Seperating the males and females will stop breeding activity ( obviously ). Good luck with your Axies
  12. That friend wasn't Andrew or Pete was it ? Pretty cool that your natives are doing the wild thing - congrats
  13. Good to see you are keeping the lines going - nice specimen You never know it might be me calling you for some Africans some day
  14. Hi Navarre, These guys used to be everywhere down here in ChCh but they disapperaed . I long to get my hands on them again - they are very very nice fish. I spawned them a few years back - the males get very dominant as they get older and you have to keep removing them. They produce heaps of offspring once they get going but alas I can't find any in LFS Oh well I'll keep hoping. Let me know if you find any. OOA.
