Southland sand and gravel have white silica but not black silica sand. I believe their is a company in Dunedin called Blackhead Quarries who have it but I cannot confirm this. Tel: 03 4879031

I have used matt black spray paint from auto cheap and concrete paint ( with a brush) from Guthrie Bowron without any probs.

Sand and a shallow tank will make it grow like a weed. Be carefull not to have too much light or you will have algae problems.

I have been trying to get rid of duckweed for about 7 years, it even followed me to Invercargill. Ira kindly gave me some riccia but I couldn't keep it alive. :dunno:

Both statements are true. Wonderworld in Rotorua in my opinion is the best shop in NZ. on Clayton Road I think. World of water in Hamilton ( TROPICAL BLUE ? ) is also held in high esteem.

You could try raising the temperature and adding a UV steriliser. Clown Loaches are not very tolerant to meds.

As above but make sure you keep the media moist. Also bread soaked in milk is good food.

I find the silica sand gets dirty very quickly and I have to turn it over at regular intervals, but it looks fabulous afterwards. I also notice the fish in that tank have paler colours.

Last time I got some from Tokaanu they survived without any probs. Just be carefull when you go there as some of the locals are resentfull.
