if ur referring to the golden cross back that i saw the name "cross back" is a type of arro not meaning its a cross breed [although i am sure it was a cross breeding process to get to that stage from the start]. the name cross back is givin because every scale has a dark shade border and when u look straight down the fish it looks something like this XXXXXX a row of crosses on its back. very 8)
cool that's a lot thicker than i imagined when u said thin.
does that mean the pond is up and running? last time i heard its still has leaking problem.
yeah i figured that after i asked the question
what filters are u running as i know they like a strong current and very clean water or are they so captive bred now current is not a big issue would like to know about ur set up too blue.
thats not even that bad, when i was over there for the holidays saw a few tanks packed full of parrot fish, more fish then water and for some reason they paint pictures on some of the fish which was horrible to see.
not 100% sure what u mean but first u cant have the sump above the tank as u would then have to have the return pump in the actual tank that would just make the sump the tank and the tank the sump. [ur end up with an very clean and tidy sump]
the over flow shouldn't really get blocked as ur be using around a 20mm/25mm depending on the size of ur tanks of cause and how u choose to set it out. either by the corner over flow method or just the straight pipe. if it does clog a valve arent going to solve the problem as the return pump would just keep pumping water, when that happens just turn the pump off.
hope that helps good luck
sometimes when one pair starts breeding it triggers other to do the same at least that what i find in my community tank.
are both pair in the same tank? details?
sweet
u must be swamped with these now.
what is the set up like?
tank size, filter, gravel, plants, tank mate........
keep us up dated as always, would like to give these a go myself.
that tank sounds stunning any chance of an picture maybe starting on another thread. i always wanted to do something like that but thought it would be a nightmare on power to keep the tank temperature and evaporation would mean top up the tank every couple of days?
Asian arowanas are all captive breed as its illegal to catch them in the wild cuz they are an endangered species. they all come with an certificate and is microchipped.
they are schooling fish in the wild and dont pair off, spawns like an egg scatter but rears them like a mouth Brooder.
went over to China, Hong Kong and Taiwan for my Xmas brake and visit a arowana breeding farm while i was out there. they had an display tank full of their X breeding stock and one of them was an Golden Cross Back[thy breed over 20 kinds of arowana] at least 1.5M long and 30cm thick.
just to be clear i was talking about the bulbs them self been made out of UV stop glass and should be changed not suggesting that he take the actual glass away.
WOW what a great deal.
u'll most likely have to change the bulbs to suit as most shop fitting light bulbs are have UV stop glass which takes away all the good stuff that we want for our tanks and only produce a 3000K
but still what a bargain as long as u have a good knowledge on electrical wiring.
good luck with the auction.
i sometime use this method to decapsulas my brine shrimp eggs before hatching [i decapsulas a decent amount at a time and keep them in the fridge and hatch them as i go] i like this method cuz u dont end up with shells all around the tank.
but this seems much better just feed it straight.
ture so here are couple of plants really to look out for as they are pretty common especially in the wild.
Ceratophyllum demersum L [hornwort] and Utricularia Gibba Lam [bladderwort] which flowers small yellow orchid like flowers.
if u have these its not worth having them around as its a real pain what i have to do now. [i know Ceratophyllum demersum L is a great spawning mop but better just stick to good acrylic wool]
yep java fern just tend to float around until they grab hold of something in the tank [ i have drift wood in the tank they have grabbed on to] with their roots. they do nibble on them but not enough to do any damage.
rather not say here cuz i am still on watch and don't want to get in trouble. if ur really interested PM me.
nothing too naughty [i didnt think so anyway] some i didn't even think was illegal to have.
they have the right to come on around outside of ppl's property so i guess they only target ppl with ponds. but i've known a couple of ppl that had precis plants taken away from their indoor tanks and they had no ponds.
i let them took everything they thought was necessary to take then had to empty it out [just the two small 200L ones they didn't make me empty my 8000L pond yewwwh] and then they sprayed them with chemicals so nothing can be put in them for at least 6 weeks.
