  1. i am sure most of us here subscribe to the practical fishkeeping newsletter but for the ones that dont here is a video of ppl catching oto in the wild. http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/p ... blogid=112 i have to say its nothing what i expect and it looks like the otos gets a but of a beating.
  2. got this in my e mail today. http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/p ... ?news=1332
  3. yep bbs is the best but they wont take it till around 2 days after hatching
  4. no wasnt talking about u IOU1 was just moaning about the forum in general. ducati, i am afraid its not that simple as u would need to know the back ground of each fish eg color of their parents, their grandparents.....etc and even then u cant be 100% assuming both are good genetic line breed u'll have most of them red and red/white and if ur lucky some redcap and pure whites. on the other end of the scale, if they were from a very bad line u will get mostly bronze fantails. of cause they will all start out browny color, feeding of carotene and exposure to sun light will help with the process.
  5. ur very welcome recently i've not been posting as much as i get the feeling ppl ask questions for the sake of asking questions with no attention to put it in practice so this is a real boost.
  6. thats excellent good job :bounce:
  7. WOW pics please. had a large male givin to me a while back, it was only around 7cm.
  8. there is a way if u shine it though light but its just better to wait and see, if its infertile it will just "flatten" over time
  9. perfectly explained, ideally u would have the eggs in the exact same position as it was "set" right after it was laid but i assume its too late now.
  10. yeah males wont be intrested till about 3-4 and the female wont actually breed till 2-3 years of age.
  11. yeah exact opposite when they get older especially if they're newly introduced to each other.
  12. putting them on top is fine and will take around 3 month
  13. females mature earlier than males, basically shes up for it but their not intrested. its quit common but sometimes can lead to female biting the tips of the tail clean off.
  14. there is still a good chance they will hatch. half fill the ice cream container with vermiculite or something similar like wood shavings.....etc. spray so its moist then close the lid and place in hot water cupboard. the reason she's laying in the water is because she doesn't have a proper basking area which they really should be getting. good luck
  15. cheers for that MiNcIE. congrats flatfish.
