  1. The problem is that they tax the industry I work in to make up for the effect of dairying so an industry that helps the environment is penalized and then you get Carters closing mills. They could've thought that they were doing the right thing but have only added to the reason we are doing it so hard (NZ 3rd biggest export earner). I hold green issue very high and would call my self a worker rather than businessmen but they haven't done any good with either issue. When they first got in they stopped Rimu milling, not because of conservation but votes. Now they have stop cutting these forest the Kiwi that where in them and that benefited from the money being reinvest to control pest has stopped. So from going from a increase in Kiwi numbers of 3% annually they are know having to catch these birds and remove them to an off shore Island as they were deceasing in number be about 5% annually. They are making the wrong decision. The free trade deal wont bring any more money into the country as the Chinese aren’t dumb and will ask for a reduction in price in line with the removal of tariffs. This has happened with logs imported into China. They may know where they won't to get to but have no idea how to get there and we are all paying just like the staff at F&P.
  2. Helen has done so well at making this country competitive and really dealing with the important issues like increasing export and not worrying about people taking more holidays etc. Feed the horse and drive the cart, buy a new cart and not feed the horse, blame the feed company for not giving you the feed. This government has continued to focus on social issues while not dealing with the economy, we all know that people with jobs and more money in their pocket live a better and happier life, this government has continued to tax us and company's to the point where we can't afford to buy anything but the cheapest and cant compete with manufacturing off shore but don't worry they can spend 20% more on health but only 6% of this is spent on providing health care, real value that! Yah right, about time Helen got out of the passage sit and we put someone in the drives set that knows how to make a profit for this business/country. Who is more important in a big company, the HR person or the director? The director as with out a good one there would be no HR spending the profit. Feel sorry for the workers but at the end of the day they would’ve vote this government in. The company I work for looks to lose about 50% of its work force next month so I could also be down the road but ha I only work for a sawmill and we have been hit with raising log cost due to this government extras taxes. Where now starting to pay for this governments policies over the last few years.

    Parrots

Old Davie as well? Don’t know for sure that Roy had them just a guess. When you think about smuggling domestic bred parrots (eggs) the only problem is the risk of disease, MAF/DOC could change all this by allowing us to pay for quarantine. Live birds are a different story. A lot of the parrots in NZ are showing signs of small gene pool, even common parrots. When labour first come into power they wanted to get rid of all parrots by not allowing them to be bred, Some times you feel that its not worth while trying to play by the rules and can understand why people smuggle and really you would be unlikely if you got caught unless someone had informed border control. Really even thou I got checked flying in I could have had 1/2 dozen eggs in my pants (no more too fat) not that I did.

    Parrots

I hate to think Roy has Hyacinth. Green Wing (90%) you are so lucky, wish they could get the 2 100% together. The importer said that the EU and States have ban Gourami and Rasbors due to a new disease and MAF are thinking about doing the same thing.
  5. In Ozzie last week and I visit a breeder in Brisbane. He had 17 B&G Macaw chicks, 2 GW Macaw chicks, 2 Scarlet Macaw chicks, 12 Hanns Macaw and about 20 other small Macaw chick. That’s only the Macaws also had Amazons, Conures, A Grey's and Ecees. Soo wish I could move over there. One things that I really took note of was the size of the parrots over there, you can really see what a small gene pools does to NZ parrot stocks. Talking to an importer yesterday and he was saying that from his contacts with DOC/MAF etc that in a couple of years they will stop the importantion of Fish as they have done with parrots. The generally feeling he got was if NZ does make export $ out of importing live animals its not worth the risk. I’m so glad they know what they are doing (haha). Not being able to import parrots has worked so well (haha). Heard a rumor the other day that there was a couple of Hyacinth Macaw bred this year. Also got the view these and Palm cockatoos in Ozzie as well. While you can't import parrots into Ozzie at least they have a register for parrots, in NZ there’s nothing so after a couple of years there’s no way that DOC/MAF could ever prove where parrots come from. Did get a funny look at the airport when they had a look at my bag full of parrots toys and products. Lucky I was in shorts and t-shirt as they gave we the once over don't really like getting naked in front of other blokes..
  6. Well done, just see if you cant take a small amount of water out and don't worry about the worms only an issue when you have eggs. Don't gravel vac just change small amount of water daily and the parent will get use to it.
  7. Love eating fresh Blue Cod can't beat it and also love other seafood. The one that really gets me is eating chicken in front of my parrots. I eat a lot less chicken now. Keeping parrots and fish has opened my eyes to how much these animals do know about what is happening to them.
  8. When I had problem breeding GBA's it was diet. What are you feeding? any courgette, what about wood.
  9. Don't think that wild imports are bad, better to have the locals make cash from this than clear fell the forest and farm. Need to look at this case-by-case. Look at Kea's, can be purchase over sea's no problem from birds that have been smuggled just think if they could be export legally and the money made from this goes back in to pest control in the forest. Not saying that I would like this to happen but just saying that some of the labels we use can be misleading. Any way good luck tracking down the catfish and good luck with breeding (I'm keen on some when you do)
  10. Oh I just have problems with my females getting Dropsy and then when they die the male eats them and dies or I'm left with a lone male. I think this is due to the male wanting to get it on and picking on the female who then picks up some bugs when shes run down. This has happen with 4 different types of Apisto's so don't know what to do.
  11. Evil nice tanks, can see why you have such big power bills.
  12. Pair of Angels cleaning a site to spawn on??
  13. I have micro worms if needed. Good luck.
  14. Heaps of A Grey's in the country. Range in price from a young breeding bird for $4500 to $6k for a hand raise baby and as stated for a true breeding pair around $12k but why wound you sell a breeding pair. There are 2 types of A Grey's available with the less common smaller one costing more depending on availability. A Grey's are like the old man of parrots compared with S cockatoos. Saw a breeding pair yesterday and had a chance to spend some time with the young. These parrots are very smart parrots and require someone that has keep parrots before.

    Crazy cockatoo

Has he got a female? have they spawned?
  16. Was having no luck with a pair in a 2' with the male kicking the eggs out of the cave a day or 2 short of hatching so added second pair and they are both going at it with 2 spawns and 2 more batches of eggs on the go
  17. I use a bit of every thing with my Discus: tetra bits, beef heart and White worms. The last two cost almost nothing.
  18. Budgies are way under rated, most people just cage them not knowing that they are as smart as a 3 year old. Do you give your pal Gum branches, the one's with the narrow leaf and small white flowers are really loved by Budgies. My partner put heaps in the aviary yesterday for Budgies and cockatiels and by lunchtime they had striped them and where playing on the floor digging and hiding under the leaf's. The other thing that they like is grass seed heads (what they eat in the wild). My Macaws on sky "the lounge" tonight and my Galahs been in the local paper as he likes taking rides in the car and a guy from the local paper saw. Parrots are the best pets.
  19. Keep the 2 Red's if you don't have tetras etc in the tank there’s a good chance they will raise the fry. I've raise Discus in a tank with Cory’s, Rams and Kuili's. I've got a tank divider for a AR980 if needed.
