Thanks for the reply. My partner came home with Furne 2 (turns water Green) which is for the treatment of cotton mouth and others. Could use Aquafline or Malkon I'm told so have fully stocked chemist at home now. What a great site your link was. Discus sites have so much info, if they could only give a break down of the strains ie pigeon blood, snake head etc etc etc. Just to many names, didn't stop me from getting 9 the other day. Cobalt, Red turqu and Red eagle. The reb eagle are tops with the best colour and shape.

Asking because I find perspec easyer to cut and drill as I have a good work shop with wood working tools. The above post pretty much tells me to use glass, so be it.

Some where on here some one commented that cat pills work on fish. How would I use this. What amount per ltr. All fish or only ones showing signs.

Just thought that it would be good to get a discussion going on what people think are the best. As above a lot of products have the same things in them and instead of have every thing in stock just thought I'ld ask people what product they use most offen and when. Good to get postive feed back. Every one well use something different and while it will work for some, others will have no luck and thus there will be options that people haven't treid. The cat worming pills is a good point as I've talked to a lot of poeple on this and its never been suggested to me b4. Only ever lost tetars so far and some old guppies apart from fish that haven't like being moved (over night transit,net damage at LFS etc). With my new Discus I'm sure that I'll being needing some help in the future. NZ Discus fish look good.

i have a dwarf Gromi that has white around it's mouth that appeared over night. I've read somewhere else on here that mouthfungus? can be treated with Malkon. I don't have any of this but heap's of curex and malafix. I'm going to get some aquaflavine this afternoon and I will mot likely have to get some Malkon as well now. It seems like I'm becoming a bit of a chemist. Interesting to read that cat worm pills will work to treat intestinal parasite. Can I use this on my comunity tank as I have Angles and Pleco that have this problem and all else has failed. In the tank are tetars, red tail shark, guppies danios, kuli's. My partners is telling me that I have to slow down/stop getting more tanks. I have 5 now and I'm cleaning the sleepout up so I can start breeding (the fish) as there's no room inside and now I don't have a tank for sick fish.

What is best. Glass dosen't mark as easy but for a tank room (breeding) it's not so important. What is strongest. I have options on Wholesale rates for both so cost is pretty close.

What do poeple use. I've used Malafix and something called cure-ex I think. It's been surgest to me that Aquaflavine is also a good product. Nothing worry with these products just want to know what other people use.

May be I was a bit quick to reply but there are a lot of people who try to to talk up the problems that can happen and this really gets me pissed. Reading the last comment on suphew post i most proably was to quick. I've been told that they can't be changed from tank to tank, have to be at 6.0pH etc etc and at one store in chch they try and make you feel like you don't know what you are doing. I'm getting 9 fish and would be please if I only lose 2.

Suphew do you keep Discus. How many tanks do you have . I've cycleing tank for about 2 weeks before adding fish and another two weeks b4 I fully stock. I use medium from other tanks to start with and in tank ready for Discus have a couple of Danios in. It has twice the amount of filter medium supplied (old medium from my many tanks) in the trickle filter and two sponge filters as well. Funny when you ask for info people like to tell you everything you are doing wrong and 6 months to cycle tank is a joke. Maybe asking people who keep Discus would be better option. I wanting now to be told that water has to be between 6.2pH and 6.4ph. Maybe Jack Wattle dosen't know what he's going.

Main tank doesn't have any thing too dear in it just getting it started so not to concerned. I'll be getting over $650.00 of Discus on Tuesday so this is my major concern. Will raise in bare bottom tank and once they are about 4-5 inch will introduce to show tank which have the tetars. Have found that tetars turn there toe's up if you think about moving them.

Hi all, I have a problem with some Rummy Noses that I got 3-4 days ago. I've lost 3 out of 8 (total of 26 tetars in same supply) they get dead rear half of body over night(turns white and tail gone) other fish in tank are gromi's and Cory's. Tank has been sit up with other fish for 3 weeks and no problems with them or other fish in last batch. Have used Malafix last nigth on deaths. What is this? What should i do. Does any one know were/who in CHCH I can get a Ram from. This is all for Discus tank so glad I have bear bottom tank to bring them up to size in before they go in this tank.

Would love to buy Redwood when Bob has had enough.Is much happening out there with breeding salt water life forms or is this just to hard. Hate to think that we are killing the reefs (TNT,poison). I think if you make money out of the ocean you should be putting a bit back. Reef restoreation etc is being under taken in some parts of the Pacific.

That why every one has big tanks. Have wall that looks like it needs something. 12' long. Pet world in Ferry Rd CHCH has Bat fish (Red finned) that looks just great. Black body and red edge on face and fins, have hread they are one of the hardest to keep alive. Won't eat if new fish released in tank can't change from one tank to other but what a fish. I'm more interested in carols so what ever fish can go with them will be fine. Thanks for the responce, what a great site this is.

Have yet to start in the saltwater field but just like to ask some question re number of tanks people have. I'm thinking of a Clown/Coral tank and maybe a tank for a Reb finned batfish. With my fresh water tanks I have seperate Discus tanks, Angle tanks etc. Do people keep Red sea/Pacific tanks or is it more Coral/Clown tanks verse Puffer/Coral eater tanks. Need to know as wife says 5 tanks in the house is enough. Migth cut this down to 2 fresh and 1 salt and move the rest in to the sleepout which I'm turnning into a tank room. Don't want to put salt tank out there as way to nice not to show.

Your local hydroponics store will have plastic sheet (white one side)that they use for lining there rooms. Cost about $6.00 per metre (2.4x1.0mtr) will keep walls dry, reflect ligthing and can be put up with a staple gun in ten minutes. Low cost all round and best option I think. I'm building my own fish room in sleepout and was thinking about use gib aqualine with oilbase piant but think this option is way to easy to do. I'll be going over customwood 5mm sheet . Hope this helps

New plan now will pick up new AR980 tank this afternoon and just run sponge filters with small Discus and at later stage will run over head filter tray when fish bigger. Will use other tanks(3) for my new tank room that I'm going to clean out this weekend and set up for breeding.hopefully will be able to get 20 in. If Im using 4x2 framing what should the base be for the tank to sit on. I'm thinking 21mm partical board.

It has no bracing just four sides. Thinking of putting end bracing for glass lid to sit on and maybe centre brace. would prefer not to have to do anything but this is what i have to work with. This or AR980 at 12X the price but with filter ligth etc.

Looking at getting 6mm glass tank that measures 915x460x460. It has no centre bracing. Does it require one. Will use for bear bottom young Discus tank?

Not that forest. This was done with Timberlands who have had there plan now used in Canada and the USA. Nothing wrong with there plan, has been excepted world wide as "Worlds Best Practise" By the way lets want and see whats going on in the case on tele as we don't get told every thing and one expert can have completely different results and we are talking about politican. I'll still working for the same company (pine) but we have laid of 30 staff and have had about 200 staff of our former customers laid of with most furniture now being made from clear felled rainforest (imports). Back to question does any one in CHCH have some spare fish in about two weeks and how many should I get.

Cheers just plans at the moment. I work for a timber company that use to cut Rimu on state land and even through the forest was expanding ( something DOC can't do with there pet possums) and the bird life was double that of DOC land they stop us. So well aware of were we are with our soroundings. Interesting last time I was on the westcoast I picked up a couple of guy's thumbing a lift, turned out they were DOC works trying to control pest in the old loading areas and they agreed that Timber lands were doing a lot better at the forest in there natural state then they could with blanket 1080 drops. Disapointing that we have people (labour/greens) in goverment that don't look at the facts and only ride the bus. Helen clarke was on the tele one day sitting in her home after the last election with Rimu coffee table, flooring and breakfast bar, also Janet for the greens was the same. Seems that now they have what they won't the rest of us can't use the resorces we have and protect them for the future. At the same time they stop us cutting 1 tree every 2 football feild every 5 years, at the same time SILA lands (south island landless moari act) were being clear felled and have only just stopped after 10 years. Sounded like 2 laws to me. I could go on for ever about sustainable logging being better than any other industy in NZ but people would rather let the rats and possumes eat them to bear sticks as you see in the central North Island. Hi all. Re stocking rates of a new tank I'm putting in. It measures 0.650mm long x 0.450mm wide x 1.000mm high. I understand that this has a small surface area so have a long air stone that will go along the back wall of the tank.. I'm thinking that I could start of with say 9 fish between 2-3inchs and as they grow move any that pair into separate tank. I'ld also like to keep some cardinals (12), Croy's (2-3) and maybe some Gromi's (dwarf x2). Cardinals to settel Discus, Croys to clean bottom of tank and Gromi's for top. I understand that a lot of you will say that I should keep Discus by themselves but I have limited space and untill I've moved everything out of the sleepout (furniture making tools and Rimu) I'm limited. Oh by the way my partner has just borought Blacks pet store in Opawa Rd Chch and we are currently looking at putting Tropicals back into to stock. Hopefully if everything goes ok I'll be able to expend my collection in to Saltwater as space is available. Currently looking at buying a small bock of land so I can breed fish and Parrots. Would love to be able to donate a % of profits (if any) to Amazon preservation and reef restoration on the Coral coast in Fiji(great people, big Tiger sharks when diving with the local boys at night with only $5 torch and mask). Always need to put something back and live sustainable.
