  1. Livingart that sounds like a big dog from your 2 any photos. Mastiffs are the best dogs.
  2. Red pine, haven't heard it called that for a while.
  3. You can't go past Budgies, Hook bills are so much better than soft bills. When the Budgies bred you could have a cuddle Budgie for inside. Word of caution if you are addicted to keeping fish, parrots are a lot more addictive. Starting with Budgies is a good stepping-stone for when you get a full size parrot, Anorak and Morris Miner
  4. Look I'm a timber worker with all my fingers so that means I'm smart or lazy, take you pick.
  5. I'm with you Reef, at some stage there is going to have to be a reduction in the number of people on the face of the world and I'm will to start the process know.
  6. The worst animals are those two leg ones, they grow hoods and call out bro. Some have funny coloured things with Mob and Black on there backs and you can't shoot them either but they sure do run away when they see a gun, usually the best kind are pump action but the faster running ones a 308 works real well to. Usually a problem more in the NI but have also been found in Perth where there is open season for the locals but since they got the big one a couple of years ago doesn't seem to be such a problem. Been waiting for our season for a while now.
  7. Hoki is nice just watch out for pissed local at night they get a bit tribal. What will you be doing for work in Hoki. The sawmill 5 min south is always looking and the Poo pub is great when the bus is there. If you want info on what’s going on talk to Kelv at the F&C shop in town "Porkies" So we can call you another bloody inbred coast know then?
  8. Just goes to show what a joke the laws are. Cats are killers and once my 2 pass away I will not be getting any more. Last year there where a number of Brown teal released into a wetland in CHCH, nearly all were taken by the local cats. I want to import parrots but you can't only allowed to import pigeons and fouls?? Makes lots of since if you what to keep SARs etc out. There a reason that they are called fouls and don't they call pigeons rats with wings.
  9. Any timber will move with the heat from a tank. The poly will not seal a 100% so will still move and once the water gets in the poly will start to age and will need to be cleaned off and re coated. An oil finish is good as you can just put another coat on. As said before the more coat s the better and with more coat you get better protection from water damage. I wood say use the oil, the brand that Allan says is good enough for kids to eat off so hopefully ok if any water drips off. I'm a sales rep for a timber company that use to sell about 70% of the Rimu flooring used in NZ and we had more problems with poly than anything else. Timber will discolour no amatter what you do. Rimu is a great timber when you cut it but but will move and discolour over time. Buy the way silky oak is not an oak but a gum, same with Vic Ash not an ash but a gum tree. Nothing wroung with gum but you can ask for more money if its oak or ash.
  10. I had the same problem. I treated it with PP daily, took it out put a bit on the sore and put back in tank. I've also had Apistos with the same problem.
  11. The thing is you can do all the work and meet all the standards and they can still say no.
  12. The other thing I would recommend is clipping his wings. It may seem mean but he will be much happier if he can walk around with you etc. My birds get down off their cages and walk down to the bathroom when I'm having a shower and want to get in. Teil's are very smart, from what you say about walking around with his wings out a bit sounds like he wants to play. Give him some sawdust in a tray and some straw as well to play in and hide. The only limit to what he can do is the amount of time you spend with him. Feel free to ask as many? As you like. The other thing that he will love is gum branches with flower head etc and its good for his health as well. I could talk for hours about parrots. Being egg bond is usually just outside birds problem
  13. The paperwork alone will cost many thousands before you even look at a building.
  14. No guarantee with any of the ? asked. Some pet birds are happy to have a friend; some hate them and the time you spend with the new guy. Ringnecks and lories are not good pets. Every bird is different and you may be able to bred them and still have a great bond with both birds. Some people say that its better to have 2 birds together as you see more natural behavior and they are happier, but you can still pet them. The only things that I would suggest is to get the second birds as soon as possible and I would recommend another teil.
  15. But the thing is it isn't the live fish trade that is the reason for the reduction in numbers, its land clearing and development of the land. The live animal trade really only becomes a problem when the effects of all the other cause has reduced the numbers to only a small % of what they where. So now the local can't make any $ from fish they'll go and cut the forest down. Samel thing with parrots in coastal region, there’s no forest left for them to live in let alone be caught for the live trade.
  16. Allan is that the Ethylsuccinate.
  17. I was talking to my vet and he has Erythromycin Ethylsuccinate but is unsure if this is ok as he think the Ethylsuccinate could be harmful. He said that it comes in 4 forms Ethylsuccinate, Esrlate, Lactobionate & Glucertate. Sorry about the spelling but the vet wrote these down and Its no easier to read than a scribe from the doc’s. What are people using to treat their tanks? Nearly all my tanks have some, I think I got this using river sand that I may not have cleaned well enough and I feed a lot but remove daily any waste or uneaten food.

How much do you need as I have some. Try CRT in Hornby.
  19. My tank is 600x400x1.00 high. Has 5 discus that I've grow from about 50mm to full size 20-30 tetras, 5 whip tails,10-12 Corys and heaps of snails running a 404 with 50% water change weekly. When the discus pair up (if ever) I'll cut their numbers down. I feed heaps including Beef Heart, colour bits and white worms and haven't had any problems. Remember that CHCH water is great straight from the hose. The one thing that I would say is that you need big water changers rather than a couple of smaller ones. If you want to have a look at this pm me.
  20. Currently the only ones that benefits from the laws are those willing to break them and smuggle. Animals are coming in all the time and are not Q so we are in the position of having all the risk but none of the benefits?? It's just dumb!!!!
  21. Parrots are so much more fun out of their cages. You only have the one parrot? I find them more addictive than fish tanks. I can't put into words how much of a bond I've developed with mine. They are the only reason my partner and I and still in NZ.
  22. Good to see him out of his cage so much. Does he have free run or just when you’re around? One of my Parrots will run the length of the house to get in the shower with me. Is he clipped or not, mine are as that means they can be out 100% of the time, I can't stand it when people say that its mean to clip but keep their birds caged apart from 30 minutes (prison with 30mins yard a day). He looks in really good nick with lovely bright eyes.
  23. Conures can be loud but only some times, Lories will keep going all day. Try the smaller conures like Green Checks and Maroon Bellies. Depending on what you want to spend a A Grey could be a good option.
