  1. Yeah i have problems with mine. My female has a lump on her back that was open so I treat the area with PP which seem to have clean it up but now it's coming back bigger than ever. I've had about 12 B Rams but they have never lasted more than a year so that why I'm after local ones . Still have a pair but need to up grade there tank and get rid of the guppies in there.

    Wanted Whiptails

I've got the common ones and just wondering if anyone had other kind that they are selling. I'll take a few to make freighting worthwhile.
  3. Any photos. Are you looking at selling any to me??
  4. Panda's are one of the hardest to breed and is the reason they are 2-3x the price of peppered. Females are noticeably fatter than males. You need to fatten them up really good
  5. Time to reduce your numbers. Theres something in the water they don't like, waste or bugs.
  6. There's lot's of people breeding kribs so it could become a hassel getting rid of the young. The big O has some nice Apisto's that would be a good option instead of Kribs and i have some as well.
  7. Up temp to 30 and put some peat in. The Cory’s will be fine and when you do a water change (use cooler water say 26) they could breed which happens in my tank but the Discus wait for this to happen and have a good feed. Neon’s might be a problem they will last some time at this temp but will not be at there best. Aquaflavine can be used as a tonic as well to help them settle in (some Dutch breeders use this all the time). Like above they could be eating but not when you looking which is also common but you should still look to up the temp to 30 and add peat.
  8. Keen when you have some available.
  9. How are they going. Keen on a swap when they are bigger with http://www.apistogramma.com/cms/index.p ... &Itemid=44 Got any photos
  10. The big O arn't the cheapest but give best value for money, followed buy Redwood and then CC stanmore but Aaron has left so could've changed. Wouldn't rate Pet World.
  11. You seem to be getting a lot of fish lately. Any room left in your house. How many tanks you got. Got any Dwarf Cichlids. Bummer you’re not in Dunedin for the day. The gardens are while worth visiting to see the Parrots, about 4 Macaws, breeding pair of Black cockatoos and heaps more.
  12. I never buy any thing from Animates, they are quite happy to sell a dog and tell the people to cage them when they're at work. If you don't have a fenced yard don't get a dog, Animates don't give a toss and only care about the money.
  13. Those spray bar filters work really well and are easy to clean the floss weekly with your water changers so stocking rates can be quite high.

    MAF/DOC

I think that they couldn't tell from the blood samples one-way or the other. The people that where breeding these for DOC in Nelson made the call that they weren’t a cross/hybrid or a mutant due to their size and colour of crown etc. DOC didn't listen and put them down as they couldn't prove either way. Since this happened the advances with DNA it is now known that these are a different species. If your very nice u could contact the people at Isaac's and ask to have a look but don't count on getting in which I can understand. Just think most people don't even know that they are out there.

Allan on the front page of the site it has an article about the orange front's and that they are a true species. Some birds where trapped and breed, the breeder of these birds believe they where "true" and not a cross, DOC had a different view so decided to put them all down. There is now breeding programs to re establish them in North Canterbury and Chalky Island.

On the front page there is an article about the Orange fronted Kakariki that is very interesting and worth reading. This makes me angry and sad at the same time because there are some very dedicated breeders out there that are willing to help with the recovery of our native animals but when they come up against DOC get no where. I'm offered Kakariki may be every second month and have to turn them down so would hate to think of what happens to them.

This link is for a Parrot site but gives some good insight in to the lack of a plan on what to do about the keeping of NZ Natives. It does include a small mention about fish. http://www.kakariki.net/ftopicp-6203.html
  19. Sounds ok. Start feeding BBS as soon as possible they can decide when they start eating it and if you do run into problems they would already be use to it. Just keep the water clean. You don't need to keep the light on 24/7. I had my Cobalt breed in my com tank so took the Tetras out but left the cory's in and every one was really impressed when they came over to visit and saw the fish eating from the sides. I think that breeding Discus must be close to the top achievements of keeping fresh water fish well done. Next is the hard part, can you bring yourself to sell your babies. Feeding them Tetra bits is also a good option and when time comes just crush this up and the fry will clean it up as well.
