  1. Hi all, I am DutchKiwiCowboy, I have not been on the site for about 10 years, I have forgotten my password and the email address I believe I had back then doesnt exist any more. Is there any way for me to get back into my account or will I have to set up a new one?
  2. I use the morter and pestle to grind up the skins as well, they seem to enjoy the tougher pieces. If there is a piece that is too big to swallow then the race is on.
  3. Did you crush the peas? I usually grind mine up with a morter and pestle.
  4. Im in Manurewa and I have the same situation. My test results are exactly the same. They started at 6.6 and are now at or below 6.0. I was a bit worried about it at first but it doesn't really bother me anymore. The fish are doing allright and (almost) perfect pH is only necessary if you're trying to breed. The oyster shell trick might work if you want to try it but since I've only got a 60 ltr tank and a 110 ltr tank i'm not too worried about it at the mo. That said I'm moving to Tuakau in a month and a half so I'll be keeping a closer eye on it to start with once I'm out there.
  5. Mine do it too, it is how they sleep/rest. They're fine unless they are trying to keep down. If they are they might have gas. mine sometimes are too greedy and gulp down a lot of air at feeding time. Make sure you give them crushed peas regularly to help them stay regular.
  6. Hi Everybody I hope somebody can give me an idea about what might be wrong with my Neon Tetra. Since this afternoon we have noticedthat she doesn't seem to be able to stay up as easily as usual. She seems to haveto swim upward between 30 and 70 degrees. I can see no other simptoms and it has me stumped as to what it might be. She manages to stay off the bottem but cant get more than halfway up. Hope to hear some suggestions soon as to what it may be. Thank you all.
  7. How would you go about that? I can do infusoria and catch insects and larvae from outside but I wouln't know where to start when it comes to breeding insects. Please advise....
  8. I have bought a container of dried blood worms, (which are a lot darker than the ones in the flake food), and have ordered some wingless fruit flies. However, at nearly $10 for a pottle of 50 they may have to stay a treat for now. Thanks again for the suggestions
  9. Tubifex. Thats what I meant  Melafix was that stuff to fix 'em up. Probably should try to not confuse them in the future. Thanks for the suggestions so far guys, I'll look into them.
  10. I put some of my excess guppies in with my friends turtle years ago. One survived for months by hiding behind the rocks, it became the biggest guppy I ever saw. Then one day it was gone.
  11. Hi All I have been studying my Marbled Hatchets for the past few days at feeding time. I feed them JBL Gala flakes which also contains what I have always assumed were dried Melafix? worms. I also supplement them with frozen Brine shrimp. I have noticed that they tend to eat the dried worms and the orange flakes only. The yellow and green flakes are left for the other fish in the tank. They also eat the brine shrimp but as most of this seems to sink to the bottem they don't get a big share of the shrimp. I was wondering if anyone could suggest another type of dried food that they might like. I'm hoping that the dried food will stay afloat longer giving the Hatchets a bit more variety in their diet. I also try to catch insects from around the compost heap as often as I can, but I have to be careful how I put these into the tank as they can escape if they get out of the water. (wify's not so happy when that happens.)
  12. I am Mr Do. I am sedentary by nature, enjoying passive entertainment, eating when the mood takes me, and playing with my food. I try to avoid conflict, but when I'm angered, I can be a devil - if you force me to fight, I will crush you. With apples. (If you were not Mr Do you would be Pacman.) I only realised at the end that you could tick more than one answer
  13. I am a Pacman Ghost. I like to hang around with friends, chatting, dancing, all that sort of thing. We don't appreciate outsiders, and do our best to discourage others approaching us. I enjoy occasionally wandering around randomly, and often find that when I do so, I get to where I wanted to be. (If you were not a Pacman Ghost you would be Pacman.)
  14. After a few days off not eating he has gone to fishy heaven.
