  2. whether you believe you can, or cannot, you are right
  3. eggs, salt, bubbler on high in a 2L (or similar) plastic coke bottle upside down with the bottom end of it cut off, strain after 24hrs from the cap end. before harvesting turn off the airbubbler and cover...the shells will rise to the top and the brine will go towards the bottom.
  4. nice man i note the MTS off to the left of the two tanks featured

epsom salt will clear their gut 1Tbsp/10G, or feed them up on brine shrimp goodluck
  6. heat your water! don't forget these are TROPICAL fish... so even the rain in their natural habitat is tropical! put your hand in a tub of 5 degree celsius water see how long you can keep it in there.. compare that to 27 degree water. most fish have some form of disease hiding away and unlike humans they are very delicate. even with humans.. add winter and how many people get sick? if you were frequently exposed to the cold your immune system would suffer too. DavidR add a airstone too man that's what i did for my discus worked a treat i was changing 200L/day preheating and had an airstone cranking at the bottom... saved heaps of bucks on water ager.

no they tend to overeat and it sounds like bloat.. are you feeding too much? or are you noticing it around feeding time?
  9. 10G (gallons) = 36litres (American), 45litres (British Imperial) 1 tablespoon to 10G so for you just do a bit less than one tablespoon and see how it goes. i'm sure you can find a tablespoon around? if you only have a teaspoon look up metric units on google and you find out how many teaspoons go into a tablespoon i can't remember off the top of my head
  10. agree with firenzenz. based on eye size i'd say it's size has peaked. they can get stunted in the wild due to not enough food (you can tell as they eye is proportionally bigger than the rest of the body), nice red desirable eye though i had discus like that.. some didn't colour up much, others went nice and green. looks like the wild brown colour rather than the red spot teffe green tho. diet's pretty good. try get some daphnia/mosquito larvae that'll get his/her heart pumping. is it shy or confident?

    Breeding Neons

i agree with it all except... this is mandatory as the eggs and fry are light sensitive... will die with too much light make 2 days 2 weeks and also use a seperate tank for spawning. they will breed without too much hassle but if you leave them in the feeding tank they will a) be looking for food not focusing on breeding and b) it will foul the water and result in more fungused eggs/death of fry.
  13. they should so use that for those African safari tours they do!!!
  14. tuataras freeze when scared...rather a prehistoric survival method when you think about it especially when they see their mate beside them getting devoured by a T-rex tho I suppose we can forgive them as they are over 100million years old. as their relatives have died out they're sometimes referred to as a living fossil. Sounds like a cool looking scene... If only it was killifish or cardinal tetras in there
  15. hey dude... how about riccia? can be pricey too tho i have some i could sell you. lotus would be ideal i'd imagine tho never used it myself. how about pennywort?? cheap and lily like and grows fast! http://animal-world.com/encyclo/fresh/p ... S_Ap12.jpg
  16. looks good ay! nice and simple yet effective. i would recommend poly tho for conserving a lil heat in the tank/taking out minor unevenness. like you say tho it's not a huge tank. oh and what would really finish it off is a drape around the front. i used velcro spots (that i had to glue on as the sticky on them wasn't strong) and put it up to hide the underneath of the tank. just a suggestion, nice job ps another good thing bout heatpads is the heat creates a lil movement in the plants' roots helping them to grow better.

  21. as a fishkeeper you will soon realise there is no such thing as a wasted tank
