  1. not sure what you're getting at about no governance?? you gotta love the pessismists re the clean/green issue aye... go check out LA or some asian areas for perspective. no one's perfect but we got it a lot better than many other countries. i don't take nz for granted; today i looked up into a cloudless blue sky, crystal clear stream running down the left, wild flowers growing on the right, bliss. and that was at work! in the recent happiness survey that came out on tv/radio they said it helps to appreciate the small things that you do have.
  2. pfft c'mon start saving now... share out the costs with others...sell the mollies to fund the trip or trade some petrol for mollies. yea not many survived in honesty, this time we should be more careful in matching the water conditions that they are currently residing in
  3. i heard the goldens don't breed as well as the regulars? yea these fish are from white cloud mountain rivers in china and often snow melts into the water so it can be friggin cold there!
  4. when i did it i had a big clump which just sank...then i put a 400w metal hallide over it and it loved me for it and grew really well. do you have really strong lighting? cos you need that. did you have to quit being a florist because your mates used to give you stick about working with pansies all day?
  5. pigeons are amazing fish i'm really into the yellows at the moment like yellow crystal *drool*
  6. yep i find this works really well! otherwise just add water
  7. mmmm nice jumbo discus mate! go the leopards great breeder that one too
  8. yip i'll be there good idea to organise another one wok
  9. looks good man. harvest after 24 hrs that's when they are the most fresh. what kinda fish you feeding?
  10. yea it's good fun and yes you need like the hugest net ever known to man...cos they're quick too! i'm thinking like whitebait net x3. also you want REALLY good footwear...like rubber waders or gumboots...something similar...most of the muddy ground is scolding hot
  11. least we're cleaner and greener ok so it's a loose connection... oh man cardinals $2.69 neons $1.99! hard decision there...!
  12. has anyone ever tested the hardness there? (GH/KH?)

    Apple Snails

yip they eat algae, green and brown the blue mysterys are cool ay! they'd look ultra cool under a blue light. or you could get ottocinclus catfish to eat algae if you want a plant friendly fish instead but snails are way cheaper
  14. you could always shade the tanks or put them in a cooler area if the temp is getting too hot another idea is a pair of paradise fish...be ready for a mass sale after summer! :bounce:
  15. yeah reality is sometimes we're not that far (if at all) from tropical temperatures over summer :bounce:
  16. nice billy lookin' good!!
  17. looking great billaney....some great danio suggestions there caryl...... personally i'd go for the amazing cherry red rosy barbs, they're like a neon red/purple, though i haven't seen them in the shops lately edit: btw you just gotta check out a black ruby barb here in breeding colours! http://aquarium-fish-guide.com/images/blackruby.jpg (normal colours for comparison: http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/bla ... barb-1.jpg)

    Hi from Wanganui

hiya and welcome! happy new year
  20. << HAPPY NEW YEAR!! >> filling those tanks sounds like a great new year's resolution!
  21. IMO otos are a great investment... unlike bristlenose they'll keep eating algae even with age..... they can be sensitive when first adding to the tank so acclimitise them over an hour..... i had 4 for years and years! never saw mine spawning but some people have had theirs do it. i saw an amazing video on youtube of them collecting them in the wild.......a bit net filled with thousands of them!
  22. lol @ bloodwords! must be like chinese whispers
  23. nope. sim's right put some in and they'll breed and the fry will eat them. just make sure they don't die and pollute the water.
  24. both are wicked in a biiiiig school but black neons are hardier. the reason is neons are the most popular tetras in the world so they are heavily bred in asia, and often inbred.
