    Pressurised CO2

Thanks for the reply, I want to source it all locally if I can that way I can see the quality as well if it will fit with what pieces I do have. There must be places that sell gauges and fine needle point valves?
  2. Hey, I'm researching this at the moment as I find my DIY CO2 a bit erratic/non-productive. My tank is also 75 gallons. Has anyone here got the pressurised setup? If so I'd like to hear how you went about it. Just seeing if there's someone with experience out there and where they got the bits and pieces from. Cheers
  3. So is yeast something can they soley survive/thrive off? I checked out biosuppliers website and they're advertising "the world's best food for growing brine shrimp" (under frozen foods), anyone tried that or is it more cost effective to stick to yeast? Anything else they eat?
  4. Wow thank you Interfecus! I'll PM my address to you. Alan: I paid $8 for it. Brian at the GoldfishBowl here is really reasonable when it comes to stuff like that. He was saying himself some place was selling them for more like $16. I knew I should've started another one was just too lazy/late reading up how but now I know. Anyone willing to take a stab at the cause? Lack of food/water? Cheers

    4' tank filters

Sounds good, I have a Via Aqua 750 on my 4' 300L tank which is OK. I think 2 cannister filters beat 1 because you can position the outflows in different spots, e.g front and back of the tank.
  6. Hello- I picked up a culture a little while ago from my LFS for a good price. The culture went fine for a long time but recently I noticed they had all died. Now it is really my fault because I didn't look up their requirements, but what do you think I should've done? Added water/mist as mentioned or yeast/sugar/oats?? There was still the thick jelly type stuff in the bottom as there always had been.

    Nice to be aboard

Thanks for the warm welcome. Pegasus: posted some pics on another forum but had some good and some bad responses, so still making modifications to make it better, then I will repost. Nick: i did see a poster about the Hamilton group in the LFSs once but then forgot when the meetings are. Now i've just seen on here it's the first sunday of every month right?

    fish prices

I always thought discus would be the way to go due to the fact that LFS's sell them for so much. But then they are so much work physically, and on the pocket, that I'm sure there wouldn't be much net gain.

    Mosquito Fish

The easiest live food I've ever produced are mosquito larve (not mosquito fish/fry). Simply leave a bucket of water outside (somewhere out of the way) and leave. After the water goes stagnant you will have plenty of mosquito larvae swimming in there. Then you net them out, give 'em a wash under the tap and put them in your tank. Fish love them. Just make sure you extract them before they turn into mosquitos or you'll have an itchy Summer.

    chlorine

If you're wondering if you have chlorine in your water, you can check at your local council. Water ager is the antidote and cheap too.

    Algae

Thanks for the useful information and the follow-ups gunnstack. I always hear livebearers eat this and that but in my experience they are less than effective at controlling any type of algae. Apparently the American Flag Fish is good at controlling hair algae - I think I should get one!
  12. Hello all, I've been in the hobby around 8 years (I'm 21 now) and I've been on other forums but it's awesome to see a totally kiwi one I really like tetras, I have lemons, cardinals, black neons, rummy-nosed, diamond, golden pristella, neons, and glowlights. I enjoy breeding them (or at least trying to Additionally I have 3 clown loaches and some rasboras. One day I will have discus as I really like some of them (the blue ones in particular). Talk to you all soon, Luke.
  13. The baking soda does nothing - it was believed to counter the low pH in the bottle but it has been found the alcohol kills the yeast long before the pH. Yeast can also survive high extremes in pH (2-8 i think it was). Cheers
