  1. although very hard for anything to survive through the treatment, Tauranga waste is eventually pumped into the sea
  2. keeping in topic.... this is actually quite creepy
  3. seems to be the same size, but im sure its supposed to slide in further, the mower was a freebie, so more just a toy to tinker with atm
  4. every thing matches its right position (seriously simple little carby, but the needlt dont fit and the washer is missing)
  5. I normally have a few round river stones in an icecream container in a sunny spot outside with tank water in it, just rotate the rocks around as they eat it
  6. cams run directly over the head nuts (dohc) so have to remove cams and timing belt to get at them. ok another question for the mech heads, anyone here familiar with a Victa G4 Carby, I know it only had about 8 parts, but the previous owner is a massive stoner and I seem to be missing a washer and the needle will not fit into the hole (i think he has played with it a bit)
  7. yeah, after about 2-5 years
  8. they have a reputation of keeling over for no apparent reason. ime they are just fish that you have to be certain of their condition of before buying, only buy darker more vividly coloured ones, avoid them if they have swollen bellies, damaged fins etc.... they tend to not do well in shipping is my guess (i doubt quarantine has a nice supply of algae for them to munch on all day)
  9. I use the coke bottle method and put duct tape around the whole bottle except the bottom, to harvest, just cover open end and shine a light near the bottom, eggs float bbs swim down to syphon outlet

    snails

just wasted your cycle, no point adding live bacteria with no ammonia to feed them with.
  11. go exploring your local drains, you may find surprising things, one of the tutors in my course next year told me they found some rare galaxid swimming around happily in a cattle irrigation drain in papamoa
  12. i believe that a fancy dress elephant count as "other critters" plus I feel I should be given more leeway for finding the surprised gerbil
  13. you tried to give tongue when she wanted a peck????
  14. wow!!!! does your sink empty into the landfill??? :digH: (sorry couldn't resist) unfortunately most flushed stuff ends up in our waterways, best to chuck it on the garden, or used to lure neighborhood cats so they like you more than their owners
  15. buy a school of them, around 5-10 make sure they have algae to feed on, tend to avoid pleco chips ime lotsa cover for them they hang around the twisted val in my tank, from what I heard when researching breeding them they like lime green coloured leafs like Twisted val and java fern
  16. some in my plant tanks at work (24-25 degrees) have been going since late February I think, almost a year now, but they are getting bigger and might turn into females soon. never had a berried female survive longer than a week.
  17. big nasty things, love them, http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/geophagus-brasiliensis/ all accurate as far as I know, but they can get to around 27cm if very happy best to set up a species only (or large SA cichlid tank) minimum 1500x45x45 (deeper and wider is better) expect them to dig any form of substrate so a fine smooth sand is best, be careful of large rocks as they can undermine them and send them crashing into the bottom of your tank. lotsa driftwood and hidey holes is best. treat them like a particularly nasty Surinamensis type geo and you should be fine

    snails

if its malaysian trumpets, then snail rid won't kill them off, just slow them down (slightly)
  19. if you don't have the tools take it into hardware store, if they are good they can do it for you (if you live in a small town) or if your a city folk try the big timber suppliers.
  20. she is hot, but I value my life, no pics atm
  21. its reminding me of the evil neons we have been getting recently. maybe they are getting annoyed with the mpi quarantine conditions
  22. our water in NZ is amazingly good, go try the stuff out of the taps in Townsville for example, no chlorine smell but tastes like pool water, and water conditioner makes a heavy precipitate in the bottom of the bucket.
