  1. Older than Sophia and younger than Ira Must be because of the way you post I'm also bitter and cynical, just in my late 30's though.
  2. The only tank that the thrive in here is the bug tank (and the 1/2 wine barrel on the back porch), there are some in the ~60 l tank but only in the built in filter at the back where the fish cant eat them
  3. where abouts in Raglan did you find the Melanopsis trifasciata, not where abouts do you find Raglan
  4. I din't say to not do any water changes, more looking for conformation/rebuttal about the % of water change when there is a (possible) problem in the tank.
  5. ooh I've found it, just about... just needs some neon gravel :rotf:
  6. Stella, where abouts in Raglan? Wouldn't mind something that my large Inanga and koura wont eat. The small Potamogeton snails don't last very long in my large tank
  7. I'm sure that I read that anything over about 20% water change (without water ager) will start to negatively effect the bacteria in the filter :dunno:
  8. My wild caught natives do this when looking for food in the substrate :dunno:
  9. If you look closely to the photo I posted the one in the middle is covered in bumps, I think that that is the very early stages of "budding off" but I haven't noticed that many before, normally only one or two. The biggest hydra in that tank are around 10mm with each tentacle maybe pushing 15mm. Oh they can move as well.
  10. I have dozens in my ~15 l bug tank on my computer desk:
  11. I think this is me, if only I could see the face
  12. Is that including the hair? Oh and the tank looks wonderful, would love to live closer to see it.
  13. I sooo want to do that [the first pic] in my computer room :tears: I would be happy with a 2.5m x 600-750mm wide wall to wall version with a small ~300mm deep pool at one end then a small rapid then a larger ~600mm pool at the other end with stream side plantings of ferns and moss, and maybe native grasses/sedges at one end
  14. If he will stay still long enough I will try :nilly:
  15. I got up this morning to find that my back lawn had be taken over with a small lake, was wondering what would be the best fish for it
  16. Here is the latest addition to the family, Sméagol:
  17. I wouldn't beleave everything a seller posts on trademe
  18. The foxes that you talk about were actively selected on domestic traits for breeding, that is huge selective pressure on that population for those traits. Do most reptile breeders actively select on these sorts of traits?
  19. Shrimp fall under the same rules as far as I know
  20. read an article about blue koura and upto 25% of them carry the blue Gene in some waterways, and is more likely to be expressed in a deeper body of water. I have one that is a pale tan with dark speckles.
  21. The wood bits look nice, but I feel that the arrangement is a bit contrived. If you are going to lay the tank out to rule of thirds then you want to have focal points at intersecting thirds, at the moment there isn't really anything on an intersecting third and the whole is weighted to the middle third. I would think about removing the right most bit, then move the rest towards the right so the third line on the right runs up the left side of the heavy bit that is in the front of the others.
  22. That would be Insect Direct's Koura if I'm not mistaken, nice and blue. It is: http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=51989&p=566160 Most deep lakes and some deeper rivers will have blue koura in them. This happens as the deeper the water the less visual difference there is between blue and brown due to the filtering of light.
  23. well turn the lights on then, simples
