  1. How much CO2 (DIY) should I use to try an get my moss to grow better in my small bully tank? There is only a 18w CF for light, the light has been off the tank for about a week but would normally run any thing from 5 to 18*hours (*if I forget to turn it off when I go to work) There is an ongoing issue with cyano I dont mind the hair algae growing on the rocks/back wall but don't want it to continue to smother the moss The tank has always had a bit of BBA, never caused an issue There are 4 or 5 small ~35 - 40mm bullies and a small & medium torrentfish Tank is about 60l with a 250l/h powerhead on the built-in filter (behind back wall) and anothe 400? l/h for flow As you can see the moss (Fissidens berteroi) is looking very sad at the moment :tears:

    hydra

Hydra are fantastic little things, used to have lots in my 'bug' tank untill I put a pair of WCMM in there
  3. am I? This is sort of the point I was making. By your own logic in this comment, you are contradicting your comments on the first page (that a bluetongue and cat should not consort). Anyway I'm off to bed.
  4. My sig says "maybe a giant bully", it was caught in pure fresh water and Stella couldn't ID it as either Common or Giant. The bullies couldn't careless about the koura... are you going to tell me off for having a comet in with my natives? So dont ask for exotics to be imported in to NZ then.
  5. OK, I'll put it to you this way then. Should a major predator, mankind, be allowed to keep a spices, that they have used for food, as a pet? Wouldn't that food item feel stressed to be kept in a small cage by a predator?
  6. It was (and is still) a rather personal attack. If they/you felt so strongly about a reptile on a cat's stomach, constructive criticism may have gone down better.
  7. Another update on Mr Homer - the giant kokopu. The tail is still growing well and is almost complete, except for a tag at the top where it looks like he got on the wrong side of one of the koura. He is now much bigger than any of the inanga, maybe upto 140mm (or more?) and fat. 8. The black ironsand compacts alot as a substrate. With its fine grain size and high weight I would expect anaerobic to form in shallower sand than with other sand. I use this sand in my 400l native tank (no plants) and the anaerobic layer looks to start at about 30-40mm. I don't know if this will have an effect on plants :dunno: but might be something to consider - any plant people want to comment?
  9. That poor cat, it looks so stressed. Sophia, how could you be so cruel to a beloved pet. Next you will be posting a bluetoung driving - when will the cruelty to pets ever end. And you being a mod and all, I would expect you to hold much higher standards :digH:
  10. To me it looks to [edit]be[/edit] under balcklight (UV) so I would suspect that it is done with UV excited fluorescent pigments Edit: http://www.wildfirefx.com/
  11. Could be one of the Non-diadromous galaxiids? Definitely a galaxiid. Have a look through these: http://www.niwa.co.nz/our-science/freshwater/tools/fishatlas/species/galaxiidae

    Baby pictures

That prompted me to do a search on some of the handles I have used over the years, I found usenet posts back to early 2001. That feels so long in internet time but it was only 11 odd years ago
  13. What is the substrate of the tank? I would have thought that a pH of 7.5 would be OK
  14. slow roasted with rosemary !drool:
  15. The first thing I thought of was breeding silver dollers
  16. We used to have them when I was a kid, before they were on the "you must kill on sight" list. Caught them as little wee things about 20mm I would guess
  17. There is a joke about a ponytail... Nothing wrong with them (I have one, so I would have to say that )
  18. Yes that is what I did. The pump that I used wasn't really designed for use inline, although it did have both in and out pipe barbs, so it has taken lots of silicon grease to stop all the air getting in and the water getting out. dont buy cheep crap  It sort of made sense at 20 past 6, if any thing can when you worked to 10pm the night before
  19. henward, of late my cf1200 was struggling to keep the 'bits' out of the water as the bioload has increased (bio-filtration has been ok though) as fish grew. I first solved this problem by removing the impeller and placing a 3500 l/h pump inline. this was also running the chiller as was the cf1200. This worked well, but have changed it back to the cf1200 running the chiller and the 3500 l/h pump just creating flow and sucking its water through a 3" DIY intake with filter wool around it, this seems to be working even better although the 'sock' needs washing each day or two as it is a bit small. ie it could beat least 2 or 3x as long.
  20. He'd have to get a haircut :digH:
  21. +1 In another life I did some work with a UK ISP on testing (patchs and new) adsl router firmware for their branded router and 3rd party. Once someone has your router they have your network.
  22. The best way to make the NZD strong againgst the GBP was to come home from the UK after 10 years, all you have to do is wait a few weeks to get settled back home and you will find that 10 years of savings have lost close to 14% of their worth :sage: (it did come back up by the time we needed to get it all back here, lost on average about 10%). You want the NZD week against the other.
