  1. Looking at the images of Wool Carder Bees on google it may have been one of them :dunno:
  2. Could be Leioproctus fulvescens normally found in the south islandbut my brother found what could have been one in the waikato aswell
  3. I will/want to make one, but I would want another 4ft tank or bigger. I think at least 1200Lx900Wx600H as it would be used for my natives and therefore would house my kokopu
  4. G. vulgaris is the Canterbury galaxias, and that would have been my guess. Edit: Nice plug there Stella
  5. either that or the chicken and olive dish that Stella had last time
  6. Stella, if/when you call in again you will have to sign my 'first edition' copy :digH:
  7. Had a bit of a disaster today in the bully/torrentfish tank where the pH plummeted overnight (DIY CO2). the pH was so low that even after a 25% W/C it was still below 6 and the torrent fish were still very sluggish and breathing rapidly. With this and a WCMM tank that had gone cloudy over the last 2 weeks, ~30% W/C every few days was having no effect at clearing it and neither was a new filter to replace the bubble one, I decided to pull down both tanks and just set them back as one. This involved: 1. Relocating the biggest torrentfish and the two common bullies to the main tank where they wont eat the WCMM. 2. Catching the fast redfins and the now responsive smaller torries. 3. Washing all the sand/rocks to try and get rid of most of the cyano that was around. 4. Then setting it all up: The two smallest torries (this springs returning fry) and the three female redfin bullies should be too small to eat the WCMM, except if they spawn*. This could well be an interesting mix of fish with the torries on the bottom, the bullies there about 80% of the time and the WCMM filling the middle of the water column. One of the torries is already exploring the tank and sitting in the high flow areas. At least two of the redfins are out and about as well as the WCMM The 2x1x1 tank as 2 450 l/h filters one for flow, with only coarse sponge and the spray bar pointing along the bottom - right to left, and the other for filtration/biological. *The WCMM males are displaying like mad and it looks like at least one of the females is responsive :bounce:
  8. ivypod by the name of the pic - some ivy. a quick google and it could be pandorea jasminoides
  9. Amblygobius phalaena or Gobioides broussonnetii The latter is a real looker, and looks not to be on the allowed list
  10. I think that that is the only solution that is open to you, you dont want to upset the ballance that you have formed betwixt the purple peg fish and the koura
  11. Looks good. I see that you have one of the elusive native purple peg fish in there. How does it get along with the koura?
  12. Stop stealing my idea I have just got a 54l 2x1x1ft for free, just needs a new base or I could put it on top of my other 2x1x1 and make a 2x1x2 riparium
  13. Sounds good, cant wait for the update :mbh:
  14. We are here to your bidding master Glade that your are, and are recovering well. It didn't look like you did too much damage to the stream, and they probably heard you coming down the cliff. Did you get resource consent for the track that you two clear-felled down to the stream?
  15. :smot: but :slfg: sounds like a sketch from Life of Brian
  16. Thanks for the comments so far. Have just made a DIY reactor? and the CO2 is starting to go in. Don't have a bubble counter made yet. The pH is currently at 7.6, I'll see how much it swings with the CO2 going in.
  17. Joe I love the look of the tank, but I may have taken the sarcasm too far
  18. It is nice, and nothing like their slab. It's nice and creamy !drool:
  19. Some nice pics there of nice looking fish, still it is a shame that you cant keep that water polished :digH:
  20. only ever had one nurse screw up putting in the needle in, didn't hurt too much more at the time. Got very used to needles in the UK as the last place I worked we had to give a sample every few months for testing for Pb.
