  1. eek, I hope it survives... The glass calculator doesn't like those dimensions, but it does look nice.
  2. Yes concave at the bottom, and a convex on the top.
  3. No, I dont think it could I should be OK, 10+ years of driving un the UK with more or less these rules
  4. They generally have more pumps/power heads/wavemakers/etc than freshwater. I was thinking the base would be 1/2 circle-ish to stop the splash at athe bottom
  5. Shouldn't be any splashing. The evaperation could be high, but an auto topuprunning off anRO/DI could work well. The evaperation could well drop the temps down. Anyway looks nice
  6. Yes whitespot is a parasite, but the free swimming protozoa are intolerant to salt (you can only kill the parasite while in the free swimming stage).

    Hi all :)

Hi and welcome to the funhouse
  8. With using salt for whitespot treatment you only replace what you take out with the water changes as the salt doesn't break down like most medications. Keep the treatment up for a week with tropical fish 1tsp per 4l sounds a bit low to me. I normally use 3g or 6g per 1l (1/2 to 1 tsp per l). Can someone comment on treatment rates for mollies/tetras?
  9. This would stick just about anything to the wall: :sml2:
  10. I had done a ~30% W/C on Friday evening, so that might have been the trigger for their actions. I'll have to keep feeding them well and do another W/C in a week or so and see what happens
  11. With it being anthony's I would think it would have to be at least .5m^3 :digH:
  12. my 1200*600*600 tank is only made in 10mm glass with end bracing only
  13. Very nice pics there, even if the water is 'dirty' :digH:
  14. maybe they are not upto anything today so who knows what they were up to
  15. http://www.rollerderby.co.nz/videos.htm
  16. If they hybridise and create viable offspring that are sexually viable that will also hybridise surly then they are not worthy of a species class, just a sub sp.? But then again there has been a lot of muddying of the 'water' in recent years
  17. Just got home from friends and one of them was still there, but has now moved away. I don't know if i disturbed them with the torch or when I feed the bullies :dunno: Anyway I cant see any eggs where they were, will be interesting to see if they go back and carry on doing what they were doing...
  18. Neither of them is overly large, but they are fatish. They normally dont spend any time togther.
  19. They both have been guarding this rock for at least the last hour, often with one or the other on top, often 'shimmering' while on top Video at http://youtu.be/wq-lDPvs8yU when uploaded
  20. at $195 per person for 4 days it is about the same price as some of the Great Walks (DOC), so not too bad for a private setup. I would Love to see the "Right To Roam" like in Scotland over here, or the extensive public footpaths like in the rest of the UK
  21. Yep, as long as there is enough floor space and hiding places for them both I have always just put them in as you would any tropical fish, equalise the temps and top up the container they are in with tank water over 15 - 30 min. If you have an established tank with fish in already it does pay to quarantine new arrivals for a few weeks, maybe with upto 6g salt / litre. New native fish often will carry whitespot With smelt you want to get them into cold, high O2 water as soon as you can to minimise deaths.
  22. http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/tracks-and-walks/northland/bay-of-islands/puketi-nature-trail/ Cant see any charges on DOC site other than the Huts
  23. We have Maungatautari Ecological Island local - free, and that cost millions to setup This Puketi forest? http://www.puketi.org.nz/hike.html DOC should be free apart form huts
  24. The bullies will wait at the front of the tank wanting food every time you walk past, whether you feed then all the time or less regularly is I guess up to you Wife, they are even more formidable I got the LFS to order it in but I think HFF has it and will post
