  1. Have gone with the second bit of wood with another flattish bit underneath to create more caves.
  2. Found this bit in the shed as well, better size Would love one thanks, I note you missed my birthday earlier in the month :digH: I'm sure that it would, although it is out often
  3. Oh dear, oh my, it looks like my bit of drift wood is too big Unless of cause I leave it sticking out and plant the centre hollow? Was thinking of putting my (getting bigger all the time) giant bully and maybe a small kokopu in there
  4. Interesting idea, how does the air escape, is the lid cup shaped (almost like a shallow tank)? This could change the best way to plumb it Edit: I take it that it has a external canister filter ATM?
  5. Would save power and the cool daylight versions might look better (less orange)
  6. I would guess Cran's, at least I'm unlikely to find uplands around here so makes for one less choice for my IDs First dorsal fin looks to have 7 or 8 spines so that would push it towards Cran's (The New Zealand Native Freshwater Aquarium, McQueen, 2010 -p116)
  7. I believe that the golden minnows a just a colour morph, some correct me if i'm wrong
  8. With the setup the Mark posted above you will need a much bigger pipe to the sump than if it was a vertical fall. The more head that it can have the better for flow, but then with that sort of setup you would start to run into overflow problems at the sump if it was lowered too much. See "Gravitational Horizontal Flow" section of http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?205645-Pipe-Sizing-Charts-and-Flow-Rates
  9. The Giant kokopu? Caught two of them from a creek early last spring thinking that they would be banded[1], one was about 85mm the bigger[2] about 95-100mm so I guess that they would have been 1 year old :dunno: . The biggest one was smaller than my largest inanga. The small one is probably over 120mm now and the bigger one must be 150mm, and fat. [1] This creek is over 150km inland, I thought Giants were meant to be more costal [2]When caught he had 1/2 his tail missing http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=55536 The goldfish need to be moved outside I think... All the grey mullet are now feeding like that, real weird to watch as they feed with supper high speed head shakes on the glass
  10. I believe that they can cope with ~25 deg if there is high O2, they will die at 27 deg  just know how to use google
  11. Henward had some for sale a while ago didn't he?
  12. What, your WCMM are with your smelt and bullies? :digH:
  13. Paranephrops zealandicus, southern koura: 16 deg looks to optimum, and it looks like the L50 temp is about 21 deg over 12weeks, that is 70% died within 12 weeks at a temp of 22 deg Emphases mine
  14. They do seem to like to look out into the room like that, probably looking for me and thinking "when is he coming with more food, I'm sure I can fit another bite in." :nfs:
  15. Welcome, always good to see another native keeper. Really nice rendition of a Giant kokopu, I think that you must have used this photo as a reference
  16. Just reflections, haven't used the camera under water in 'anger' yet, only test shots
  17. a thread of Grey Mullet fry that I posted in saltwater for an ID, these guys were caught in freshwater Paratya curvirostris (freshwater shrimp) : Giant Kokopu eating from my hand : Giant Kokopu while out spotlighting, this guy was big - [edit, I may have over estimated its size] about 25cm: Giant bully while out spotlighting. only one I caught, man these guys are fast. Saw about 6 or 8 of them some getting close to 18cm or more
  18. "Large" http://www.emw.de/en/messestandvisualisierung.html look to be about 10 or 15mm^3
  19. I see they do a fluidized-bed product, an alternative to K1? http://www.emw.de/en/poretaquas.html
  20. Simon, another good site for IDs is The New Zealand Plant Conservation Network
  21. One more has died, of fin rot by the looks - too much stress/damage Here is one feeding on diatoms etc on plants, has a touch of fin rot that hasn't got worse after adding salt to the tank. As you can see they are only the size of the WCMM
  22. Don't know, but when I get the time/money/space I'll be redoing my 430l native tank as a riparium/streamside and I hope to use liverworts, moss, ferns and Epiphytes (Tmesipteris, Asplenium, Metrosideros perforata etc)
  23. Aneura sp orbiculata? http://www.andydownunder.com/nature_profiles?id=85 or Lunularia cruciata? http://www.hiddenforest.co.nz/bryophytes/liverworts/index.htm
  24. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/?p=959 Potamogeton crispus?
