  1. even us pro's get stung all the time :slfg:
  2. I believe that Stella uses Gee Minnow traps
  3. I would suspect a cyano outbreak - and some cyanobacteria are toxic especially to snails. If it is mulm then it could be hypoxia (lack of oxigen) that is killing snails and fish as the bacteria trying to break it down will be using it all up. either way water changes, vacuum, more flow and less feeding will all help.
  4. Unfortunately two of the big sheep stations above here have undergone dairy conversion in the last 5 odd years, has increased the nutrient input to the river and the algae/cyano have loved it. I believe environment waikato has been involved to get them to clean their act up. Also a large block of pine has been milled that put a lot of pumice into the river over the last few years.
  5. yeh JaSa they are still throwing out the fry. The grey/wild type are being fed to the kokopu and bullies just keeping the blond fry - and getting too many of them. The Leopard fish are doing ok, looks like the female is about to drop soon, I think it will be her first batch.
  6. Last two were just down 'stream' of here: First two were around here on the river proper: Up there doing pest eradication:
  7. I thought I would share with everyone a few pics of carpeting Glosso
  8. Nah, you don't want any of JaSa's fish :slfg: they grow up to look like this:
  9. He had the answer, but I guess he knows the question now
  10. I'm sure I have mentioned that I had a seam start to leak after moving a 4 fter from one stand to another with the substrate in...
  11. That is a good point alan, I know of a very large Maori (Iwi?) owned farm that has been given water rights and irrigate most of the farm
  12. I'm starting to feel embarrassed to be a kiwi if too many of us feel like this.
  13. This is not a new concept to Māori: "[the] Waitangi Tribunal ... found that Māori customary law includes a degree of commercial use." McHugh, 1991 "...Māori held a property right in traditional fishing grounds." McHugh, 1991
  14. no need for estuary, where I normally get them the stream flows out between snaddunes and across the beach for 100-200 m.
  15. The main thing is to keep the water cool not any warmer than 24/25 deg C. The cooler the better, they will adjust easier and they will survive longer. I have seen then in water from a pH of about mid 6 (at a guess - was lowland swamp with lots of decaying plant matter) to hardish water with a pH of 7.4. They like quite well oxygenated water I think.
  16. I won't be there as I'll be in Wanganui for work (again).
  17. yes that is what I meant. I'm not sure on the dose that different cats will tolerate but Ick. will die in 1ppt* salt and from memory that is about what is recommended for many salt non-tolerant fish. ppt is more or less = 1g per litre salt weighs about 1.2g/cc (dry) so a 250ml cup will have about 300g salt
  18. wont solve the tv issue I'm afraid. either EoP of WDS/Wireless bridge would solve the streaming issue with the tv* * if it is a wireless bandwidth issue
  19. WAGs are good little modems, even better if you flash a 3rd party firmware. I will gofiber when it comes as it will cost no more for the plan I, m on and I'll get better speeds. It could be a poor wifi in the tv. Anotjer solution could beWDS but thst can be very fickle on consumer equipment.
  20. For fixed items like tvs I would run a cat cable pref inthe walls or celing
  21. You can buy them on the interweb these days: but I prefer to harvest my own from the unicorn I have chained up in my basement. It's easy, just buy an old grape press and place sedated unicorn (C. sativa works well for this) in the bottom section, gently wind the handle down and collect your unicorn's tears.
