  1. I got the food lube from work, not sure on the vaseline but it might be ok :dunno:
  2. I have used food grade silicon lubricant on a inline pump that would never seal and kept dripping.
  3. They look very wide angle so there could be a lot of wasted light
  4. fat, slow moving and enjoys warm water? :digH: Nice build btw
  5. That is the one I was thinking of, good to see that they are still going strong
  6. Hi and welcome along. There have been attempts (at least one that I can think of and I think I remember seeing mention of others) to farm koura. you will probably find that they are too slow for do on a commercial scale, I think that was the reason why others have failed. There is a good article around - I think that it was in New Zealand Journal of Marine and Freshwater Research.
  7. +1 I had 4 in this tank before an accident and I lost 3 of them: This was in a 2 ft x 1 ft so just over 2x the volume, thread about the tank here viewtopic.php?f=4&t=59465&hilit=riffle&start=0
  8. That is how I understand it as well.
  9. I'm sure I've posted that on here somewhere at sometime Edit: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=62913&p=679684#p679684
  10. I'll just add that I can probably get away better than most with seldom cleaning the bio-media as I have a pure mechanical filter (aquaone coarse blue sponge pond [pre?] filter) doing over 3 times the turnover of the cf1200. this gets cleaned out each water change.
  11. I agree. People seen to have odd ideas about power/heating (and lighting)
  12. I mostly have the fine sponge and wool in the top tray as then I don't have to pull the whole thing apart just to clean the fine mechanical filtration. I'd love to know how much free O2 is left in the water as it exits the filter? I suspect that it is getting very low, another reason I like the bio media near the beginning of the filtration system to maximise the O2 to break down ammonia, nitrite and nitrates
  13. Hi and welcome to the forum
  14. Here is the 'hard' version: laid flat (tank glass goes in the middle): Very compact, had this running on the hillstream loach tank
  15. Something like this? viewtopic.php?f=28&t=52072 I have remade this in 20mm pressure pipe, but could be done in drain/waste pipe or conduit
  16. the flow og the CFs if bottom to top so you could go (bottom to top) bio balls & blue sponge; noodles; black sponge & wool I replaced the bioballs with another lot of noodles in my cf1200 but if you are running 2 cf1000 I wouldnt bother.
  17. well then: timer => variable voltage thingie => alligator clips => fish feeder should do the trick :digH:
  18. or a auto fish feeder and a timer switch - have the timer set to be on only ~3 hours a day and hay-presto a once a week feeder... Should work? :dunno:
  19. There are a whole range of aquatic worms (the red ones probably wont be garden worms), here is a thread about some I collected viewtopic.php?f=4&t=58915&hilit=worms
  20. and dont clean the filter too often, the wool/fine sponge once month or so, the corse sponge every few months and the noodles next to never.

Ira there are a few floating around atm if you look hard enough... (how old a thread of yours can I practice zombie raising necromancy on?)
  22. are they segmented? could they be blood worms (midge larvae) or black worms?
