  1. yep, my parked car. I would give the old couple the benefit of doub and say that they fell asleep at the wheel. happened just after 1.30 this morning
  2. Well I guess I'm getting a new car for Christmas... Hope the old couple will be ok - ambos seemed to think that they would pull through
  3. Then they are broken and shouldn't be trusted to heat fish tanks
  4. I'm sure we came up with a solution to this the other day:
  5. /me hands David his copy of the Communist Manifesto...

    Fishfood

Is there any one that does a neutral density (ie doesn't sink to the bottom but doesn't float either) fish food. Looking for a granule size about the same as Nutafin Max Discus Sinking Granules. I want a food that wont get lost in my large gravel.
  9. Someone just took out our power, hope that they are ok. Heard the rumble/bang 2 roads away.
  10. Ok... three weeks of salt at 6ppt with ~40% w/c every 5 or so days with no deaths, then 2 within 2 days. Didn't notice the first one acting odd at all but the second one was lethargic on fri. night so did a w/c on saturday and found 1/2 a bully. within an hour of the w/c the one that was listless was all but dead slight tear in the tail but otherwise looked ok... in the last three weeks there has also been 3 spawns. 2 Cran's and a common.
  11. yes, I'm sure that is why...
  12. I have a 1/2 hp resun chiller on my 430 l native tank that I got second hand for (I think) $350. this is an older style one but still works well. with the large surface area of a tank1200 long you might be surprised at how cool evaporation could keep it. I think LA has tried the hose in a fridge one, another idea is to sink a long pipe into the ground or a tall pipe (4" + dia.) down a few meters...
  13. for a small tank I would look at mounting a desk fan above the water to increase evaporation, could keep my ~50 l at about 18-20 deg before I changed to a big tank and chiller.
  14. If all the hotwater sank then one could siphon it off at the bottom and top the tank up with an auto top-up system?
  15. he must be the person I need to talk to about over-valuing (is that even a word?) the NZ dollar when I came back from the UK... Thanks mate, you cost me several thousand dollars Less of these :cr11:
  16. My small tank with shrimp is just at room temp, one of them died yesterday when the room hit 30
  17. I dont think anyone has said that you cant call it a disease have they? and no the fish I got from a member on here were local not from up your way. The point I was trying to make is that not all issues that look like they could be related always are
  18. By letting the survive in the wild, not eating them or feeding them to other fish and letting them do it naturally?
  19. Ok I'kk jump in on this one as well I have had at least 4 fish die in the last 5 weeks or so of unknown cause. The fish all should have had years left of their life, 2 have shown what could be missing scales and all 4 got lethargic and breathe heavy before dying within 24-48h. Never brought a fish from a petstore (have had some from a member on here but none of those fish have died), I'm on different water than you guys... But I guess that my deaths are linked as they are sort of similar and in the same time frame?
