    Hi!!

The logo at the top left takes you to the home page. From there click on "Clubs" and it lists all clubs and contact details. I don't know Auckland but... Auckland Fishkeepers meet 2nd Tues of month at Greenbay Community Hall North Shore meet 1st Tues at Sunnynook Community Centre South Auckland don't have regular meetings at all.
  2. Hi knight and welcome. If money is tight I would get rid of the marine as, not only are inhabitants costly, they are dearer to run with the equipment and extra lighting needed. We have a trade section in here where you could sell the rock you already have. Whitespot is usually a result of poor water quality. This may or may not be due to overcrowding. Without knowing actual tank size (dimensions rather than litres) and how many fish you have it is hard to tell. How often do you do water changes?
  3. The membership cards should be on the way soon. It takes time to get these things done by a few volunteers (who also work fulltime and do the FNZAS stuff for free) while others sit back and complain. Tanksman should have received both his AW and his YB as he is on my mailing list. The venue is clearly listed in Waikato's heading. As to his newsletter coming out backwards and/or upsidedown, I suggest he checks his printer settings as mine came out correctly.
  4. I have - a stress fracture after an earthquake (and yes the tank was on polystyrene). Totally flooded the 24ft lounge then into dining and kitchen areas. Was just starting up the happ carpet when we got up in the morning and discovered it with about 4cm of water left in the tank.
  5. My planted 4ft tank has 4, 4ft daylight (or bright white) tubes
  6. I'll third it Not enough light.
  7. Or a shoal of rummy noses or golden barbs
  8. Hi and welcome Tracey. My sister in law lives in Queenstown and we will be staying there early October as we head through with the Silver Fern Car Rally.
  9. Have a look at this site. It talks about fishless cycling at the bottom of the page then links to a step by step report from a man who kept records as his tank cycled http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/cycling2.htm

    Hi there, Im new.

Hi karma and welcome. Fish should be quiet, no mess and no smell but accidents do happen! Specific marine questions need to be posted in the marine section as most of those guys don't read the rest of the forums
  12. Sorry to hear that Tsarina. Sometimes this happens no matter what you do. In fish, it is often too late if you can already see the signs of secondary infection (like the fluff). Sometimes they come right and sometimes they don't.
  13. I wonder how good they would be in the long run though if they only last 1 hour. I have always used hot water in a fizz bottle wrapped in newspaper or towel. Works well and keeps the heat for many hours. I have had fish shipped up from Invercargill with a hot bottle in it as described and the container got held up (in snow I think). Fish delivered alive and well 3 days later. They had also been well bagged.
  14. Yes Raul, they were inanga. That is what we get here, not the kokopu.
  15. Ours look different - different whitebait in different areas - bit still pretty. Ours are pale cream and bluey/green and catch the light beautifully. We had 8 of them - all called called Patty.

    Hi!!

Welcome Aez. What sort of fish and tanks do you have?
  17. My understanding is it is contagious, but not very and usually only if you are overstocked. I had one fish with dropsy. Never saw it in others and never had another one with it since.

    hi

Rather than go up north you would be better to head to ChCh. Although, if it is Africans, they seem to have more of a selection in the North Is.
  19. email them to me if you want Craig and I will post them for you.
  20. Quite possible, or will know someone travelling down I need plants for my ponds but need to wait until spring stock comes in.
  21. If a fish is bloated the side scales do stick out a bit as the belly swells. If it is dropsy, the scales stick out all over. Look down on it from above and see if it looks like a pinecone - that's dropsy. Here is a fish with dropsy
  22. Also, what size is the tank and how long has it been set up?
