Some skeptics in the States are making big money from those who are sure they are among the chosen few. Their animals can't go with them so some skeptics said that since they obviously were not going to be chosen, for a fee they would look after the animals of those who were. Payment in advance. Apparently they are making a lot of money!!! I was discussing the "rapture" with the other receptionist at work on Friday when the Dr said, "One of our patients has been caught up by all this" I said "You mean they think the world will end?" Looking good. It is interesting to see photos of how it has developed over time. I think it is a shame the moss has overtaken the driftwood completely as I liked the look of the wood appearing out the top in the earlier pics. I would also trim that red rotala and put some on the right to hide the filter more.

That sounds good! Whenever we asked we were told it was national store policy not to allow posters like that (or they said they did not have the wall space - and a lot of them don't).

Hmm looks like a fungal infection of some sort. Not whitespot. Whitespot looks like the fish has been sprinkled with salt. Some gouramis can get nasty (especially at night when you aren't looking). Otherwise, perhaps it is a domination thing with another platy. Perhaps it is being chased by something into, or through, a tight space and this is causing injuries on top of the head and to the fins. Fungus can be a secondary infection that grows on recent wounds. I would separate it (float it in the tank in an ice cream container, bowl etc) and treat with a fungal med. These are available at pet shops.

Won't it make the cheese soggy? :slfg: I don't know about the shrimp but I would be more concerned about anything else that swam in there if you left it.

Rata and rimu look great in tanks if you can find some.

I hear plain cooking oil works well too. Not quite sure why the young ones find the use of KY so amusing :-?

Welcome. I too got the orange squares, thanks to the latest IE update. I changed to Chrome but didn't like it (although it worked) and am now using Firefox.

There are a lot of other combinations possible - too numerous to mention - but your list will be fine, as Jim said. I hope you have also read up on how to cycle an aquarium, either using fish or doing it the fishless method. If using fish, I suggest you start with the 6 danios on your list. Does anyone here know if the long fins are as hardy as the short finned variety?

I did not know until after I had been happily running the tank for over 2 years that it was not the "right way". It rarely got water changes but stuff was breeding in there and all seemed happy enough. I would not recommend everyone did it this way, I merely said that was how I did it with my cold marine. It was not that long ago either, only about 10 yrs or so. It is how I will do the next one too if I ever get around to setting it up. The only reason I shut down the other one was I did not have a chiller and it got too hot here in summer. I have a chiller now, just haven't had the oomph to set another tank up. Besides, I have lent the tank to a ChCh refugee.
