  1. Whenever you have the time raeh1 it would be appreciated. I do have one marine article now as a result of my plea
  2. Jennifer can tell you all about them I think. Very noisy. We had a red bellied conure. Much quieter and great personality.
  3. I'd rather he had an eating disorder than be suicidal :tears:
  4. Could he be eating at the algae on the silicone?
  5. Mine did nothing for years then suddenly bred non-stop for several months then stopped again. No idea why :dunno: Doesn't matter if you are moving tanks. You will just lose a batch of eggs, or fry.
  6. I see it is about to be sold out too. I do hope nobody puts a fish in it
  7. It is that time of year people. We are getting a number of campylobacter cases (I work for a doctor) as people do not store or handle their food correctly in the hot weather. It is a nasty disease and extremely painful!!! KEEP THAT FOOD CHILLED (especially chicken). Good hygiene is important as campylobacter is contagious! Studies have found that New Zealand has the highest rates of campylobacter food poisoning in the developed world – three times higher than England and Wales and 10 times higher than the US. Some 75,000 New Zealanders contract the illness every year and around 500 require hospital treatment. Risk factors include: •Undercooked chicken or meat – especially fried or barbecued chicken. Up to 60% of raw chicken in supermarkets has been found to be contaminated with campylobacter •Foods that have been infected by campylobacter – for example poorly stored chicken may have touched other foods on workbenches •Contaminated shellfish •Contaminated water •Unpasturised milk •Drinking from outdoor streams and rivers •Direct contact with infected farm animals and pets •Adults can contract the illness from their children – for example during nappy changing, though this is relatively uncommon •Campylobacter bacteria can also be found in household pets such as dogs and cats Complications from campylobacter include hepatitis, pancreatitis and miscarriage. Serious, but rare, complications of campylobacter include a form of arthritis and Guillain-Barre Syndrome, which is a nervous system disorder. In 2005, two people in New Zealand died from campylobacter.
  8. Book her in somewhere for an afternoon's pampering while you do the lfs's
  9. Don't tell her you are visiting them all. Tell her you are just visiting those recommended as best. She needn't know that is all of them
  10. I had trouble keeping dwarf gouramis with the full sized ones but others didn't. :dunno:

Pics need to be on an online hosting site like photobucket or imageshack etc
  13. We stayed in Nathan Rd too and walked to the fish markets. Arowanas everywhere! Selling for $5 each
  14. Don't go making any hasty decisions. You may find your feelings about it change and you do decide to keep on with it. While you are still vacillating I would not do anything you might later regret. My condolences on your loss.
  15. Welcome and yes, you will need a bigger tank for those angels. What a shame  :happy1: PS - MTS - Multiple Tank Syndrome. A disease where infected people can't fight the need to buy "just one more" aquarium. :slfg:

  17. . Welcome. You may find the fish selection limited to what you are used to

    The What's Up? thread.

    We mothers are not stupid
  19. Not all bogwood releases tannins so you may not have trouble with tinted water. Some leach for a while and others always do so, no matter what you do. A matter of luck, or perhaps the type of wood. I collect native timber driftwood from the Hokitika beach and have never had one leach but one I bought with a tank (from up north) leached continually.
  20. Feb, May, Aug and November. I think having more marine content would encourage more members to give them a go. Look how many native fish keepers we now have thanks to Stella's excellent help on the forum here and in her articles in the magazine It doesn't matter when an article is sent as I just include it whichever magazine is being worked on at the time.

    Fay's Reef Tank

We welcome all fish keepers here and as long as they follow the rules we are happy for them to post. If a person then PMs members encouraging them to join their own site we are not impressed but this has happened in the past and seems to be a practise followed by some. We often recommend other dedicated marine sites to those having trouble with their saltwater set-ups. We are not a marine dedicated site so welcome any advice from experienced salties. We also love to see pics of their fish and set ups. We do not like to see other people abused and I do not care what goes on in other forums. If you do not have something nice or constructive to say about whatever is posted then keep your opinions to yourself please.
  22. I will hope it is on TV on demand somewhere.
