  1. That's actually the bit I like most about meetings - meeting people face to face. Although participating in a forum is great and you have access to a wide number of people and their experiences, nothing beats actually meeting people and I love to put faces to names I have met on the forums. I have been lucky enough to travel the length of NZ at various times and attend a number of different clubs' meetings and also met a lot of forum members at conference. :happy2:
  2. You mean you weren't her slave before this???
  3. We won't be having a meeting but you are welcome to stay here (got 2 spare rooms and beds) and I can take you to visit a few members' homes. Nothing spectacular by way of tanks though you can have a cuppa by my pond  Go down the Kaikoura coast and stop to see the baby seals at the Ohau waterfall http://www.trampingtracks.co.nz/Ohau-Waterfall-Walk.html You could turn off at Kaikoura and head to Hanmer or go over to the west coast (always worth a visit and totally different to the rest of the country) via the Lewis Pass then back to ChCh through Arthur's Pass.
  4. Looking lovely but I have a suggestion. Move the water lilies. They do not like fountains raining continually on their leaves.
  5. That depends on whether you wish to become an associate, or a subscriber. Check out the Home Page of our website and look under FNZAS. You will find details about both
  6. We have just set up a Jebo 815 to cycle on our main tank for the Alzheimers' Society. They are setting up a tank in their day care facility. First thing we did was remove the carbon and add more ceramic noodles.
  7. Why not visit the pet shops and see if there is some suitable fish that catches your daughter's eye and go from there?
  8. I would like to hear you all say Pterygoplichthys when drunk :slfg: For those wondering, I believe it is pronounced terry gop lick this :dunno:
  9. It's men, they over estimate the size of most things You should quarantine all fish but I must admit I do not - unless one is looking ill on arrival.
  10. These were posted this morning so keep an eye out for them arriving in a letter box near you (hopefully your own!) :happy1: This month's issue has; - Design a breeding certificate. We need a updated look. - Audouinella - black brush algae. What is it? What causes it? How do you treat it? How do you prevent it? - Find out why some our aquarium plants always die. - How do you set up an African tank? - Read about CTT's sausage sizzle to raise fund for Turtle Rescue & Rehoming. - See how CTT set up for the Christchurch Pet Expo and how successful it was. - Learn about MacMaster's dwarf cichlid, Apistogramma macmasteri. - Find out how to build a high tech planted freshwater tank. (Taken from the thread in this forum) - If you don't want to set up with Africans or freshwater, find out about setting up a marine tank instead. - PLUS THERE'S MORE! Including... Information on the FNZAS Conference being held this Queen's birthday weekend (1 - 4 June) in Hamilton. Sounds like they have lots of interesting things planned plus a link to register, and pay, online. :happy2: The conference stuff was supposed to be in the centre but I forgot I had added the cover to the main book (they used to be done separately) so instead of the centre being the usual pages 20 - 21, it is now 22 - 23
  11. Welcome I think anyone with a teenage son probably already has a small ecosystem in their home
  12. Many thanks. I would like to name things correctly if they end up in the AW.
  13. I have spent ages going through sites trying to match scientific names to fish but some contradicted others (imagine that!) and I got lost
  14. I couldn't figure out if the 3 stripe and humbug were actually the same fish
  15. Hi all. I have some pics from our club's tank parade but, as I am not a marine keeper, I cannot identify the foillowing fish, corals, enemones etc. Any help would be appreciated. Some pics will have 2 types of coral in them. The round blue things The anemone Any help would be appreciated
  16. How was she a slave? She had minor jobs to do in the household and was expected to clean up after herself. Nothing wrong with that. She needs to be thankful I am not her parent!
  17. Hmmm should we be concerned he has a syringe handy to use? :gigl:

  20. I think it is preferable to use live plants in but some situations, like this, plastic are ideal.
  21. I have one of these things. My problem is we do not have strong water pressure and the tap is about the same height as the tank (and quite a distance from it) so it takes ages to fill (easy to forget it is running). It does not give a strong enough suck to clear the crud from the substrate as you work either. Because of these 2 things I rarely use mine these days as it is quicker with the buckets.
