Freshwater Dwarf Pufferfish Question about compatibility

Damn, maybe I should just reconsider They suggest a minimum of 4 so I can't even get one in a small tank  -
Freshwater Dwarf Pufferfish Question about compatibility
mcrudd replied to mcrudd's topic in Beginners Corner
http://www.theaquariumwiki.com/Carinote ... vancoricus no it said 5 gallons which is 19 litres But I myself thought it was a bit small. Saw a nice 40 litre tank on the Hollywood fishfarm website that was affordable, might rather go for that one -
Freshwater Dwarf Pufferfish Question about compatibility
mcrudd replied to mcrudd's topic in Beginners Corner
Thanks, I did some more reading and realised that, I also read that 15 litres is big enough to house four, it seems a bit small, but if its possible would you suggest having only little puffers in a small tank. Small tanks are not that expensive and that cute little Fluval chi tank looks nice if its big enough for them (or even the spongebob one  ) LOL Adrienne I had to laugh when I read that  -
aww Caryl lets hope for the best :tears: would be a pitty to lose all your hard work

Hi all, once I have my tank sorted and all the bristlenose babies have gone to their new houses I would love to get some of those cute little dwarf pufferfish animates are currently advertising. Will they be compatable with my fish I currently have. Its 15 Harlequins, 8 Rummynoses, 2 chocolate zebras, 3 bristlenoses and two glass catfish Thanks in advance for any help

Thanks Caryl, the ph however is a bit worrying for me, how will I get it back up to 7.0 without chemicals then? Could be the Amonia was on the level just above 0 can't remember what exactly but it was the darker yellow colour. After the waterchange it was back to normal again but the ph is still stuck at 6.0 and my fish have always had a 7.0ph. I think I will start getting rid of all my babies, maybe they are causing my tank to be overstocked

My daughter fell of the trampoline and screamed the saddest scream I ever heard, I instantly knew she was very badly hurt. I grabbed her chucked her into the car put the hazzards on and just went for it to get to the gp, they referred me to the hospital so I did the same again, got her there, waited for about 5 hours with a 6 year old screaming everytime she just slightly moved. Eventually we were seen and the first thing the doctor said is, why did you not call an ambulance your daughter could have been seen immidiately and would not have to suffer all the pain. Turned out her whole elbow was badly dislocated. So a person never knows when they want you to phone or not. But living in Beachlands I thought I would be much quicker than an ambulance

Thanks for your lovely post I think I am kinda csi-ing it a bit LOL. Well I allready added some ph up but only half of what was recommended (thankful for that now) I will stop adding more and do the small waterchanges you suggest. I did a 25% just now and then sat and watched my fish very closely, everyone seemed happy and accounted for. I gave them some brine shirmp since it was dinner time and they all munched away. Perhaps my mommy bristlenose just died of something else, its a pitty though she was so young only three years old :tears: When I say I did it, I mean I directed my hubby to do it :nilly: I can't wait to feel better and do my own aquarium care again
-
Did a 25% change, fish all seem happy even my big bristlenose came out to see what all the fuss was about I will test the ph daily. I have added a few drops of ph up just to try and get it up slowly, will add some more over the next few days. I was very suprised by her being snow white, wonder what caused that. Thanks so much for evereyones quick replies in my time of need, it was and is very much appreciated

My ph is usually very stable, I have a tank full of babies, hope they will be ok
-
Should I then just do a normal waterchange and hope for the best that none of my other fish will die
-
There is only a small piece of driftwood, but I used to do waterchanges with the filtered tap although it took longer and hubby used the normal tap and there is a deffinete ph difference with the two so I think he gradually lowered it. She was snow white and just died today cause I saw her last night. do you suggest a 30% change and then a littlel ph up. I am so stuck right now feel useless as it is
-
so it lowers it  I need to get it up, I am doing a 50% waterchange now and hopefully that will help. Well Hubby is doing it with my instructions :tears:

My hubby has been looking after my tank since I am recovering from an operation. My Ph is 6.0 and I have lost my one bristlenose female she was white as snow when i removed her, that was a first they usually look normal so I did my tests, all other tests are normal. Will adding more driftwood let the ph go up or down I can't remember right now Please someon tell me asap :tears:

Biggest reason why I don't have any more, I had a good ratio male and female but boy these guys just never stops, I actually felt sorry for the females :nilly:

First up I would suggest getting a heater guard. My first choccie burned himself against the heater. Get a hidey hole type ornament or make a hidey hole by stacking stones or something. They love to hide. I feed jbl nova tab, hikari algae wafers (they eat it although its for the bristlenoses) brine shrimp and blood worms (not too much bloodworms it can cause constipation) I tend to feed twice a day, mind you I have lots of bristlenose babies at the moment. I usually feed the frozen brine shrimp in the morning and the hikari algae wafer and jbl nova tab at night. I also feed new spectrum food at night for my shooling fish and have noted that they nibble on that too. Be aware that they do poop a lot and for that reason I do a 10 to 30% (depending on how bad it is) waterchange once a week. Keep a good eye on temps and water tests as they like it to remain the same and no sudden changes They are a super little fishy to have, hope you enjoy yours.
-
You are doing well, can't see anything wrong with the above except for maybe too much bloodworm for a pleco. I feed mine bloodworms only twice a week because its prone to cause constipation in fish. Though I must add, I am no expert and is talking from experience. I am so sorry for your loss, it can't be easy I know :tears:
-
I have two choccies for just over a year now, they are growing beautifully. I feed them Jbl Novatab, frozen brine shrimp and frozen bloodworms. Although they are carnivorous I have seen them nibbling on my bristlenoses Hikari algae wafers, they also like the new spectrum food that I feed my schooling fish They seem to like variety. I do a 10-20% waterchange once a week and find it sufficient, mind you I don't have discus. About the tummy, it sounds weird, was the little guy perhaps constipated? I just saw that after my baby bristlenoses had some of the reddish new spectrum food then you can see patches of it in their tummies, but I stand corrected in your case though. Very sorry for your loss, its not easy losing such a cute little fishy which a person gets so attached too. All the best for the future

It sounds like all the God's from the movie Percy and the lighning thief, I am suprised there is no Madusa

Hi there I am trying to get some info for a friend of mine. He has a 250 litre tank and have lots of different african chilids (spelling) in it. He is getting those hard algae against his glass those type where you have to scrub for like 20 minutes before it comes off. He currently have two bristlenoses in there but they only hang out in the back. He thinks they are scared of the chilids. His fish is quite aggressive and takes out almost anything small so he will need something that is allready about 15cm that would eat the algae. Do you guys have any suggestions?

aww that is so cute

Hi there, most of you should know my tank inhabitants by now LOL but here goes the list again 15 harlequins 2 chocolate zebras 4 Bristlenose at the moment +- 80 bristlenose babies 2 glass catfish 8 rummynoses 2 cherrie barbs (lost the others with illness) Now here comes the question. I have a friend and most of her fish have died from old age, she has one female rosy barb left and was wondering if I could take her in as she is not much interested in her tank anymore. My question is, will she be compatable with my tank, I read up a bit and it said that if rosy barbs are not in schools then they can be fin nippers with slow moving fish, and since I don't plan on getting more fish she will be by herself not in a school. I think my friend said she is about six years old now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks Snowman, I am so thankful you gave him to me, him and his children give me so much pleasure. I am sure more will follow, he is allready cleaning and carying on in the one little cave
-
Thanks Sophia He is a very good dad, all his kids are so nice and strong. I had one wee one that I found in the filter and then I put him in the tank, thinking aww he won't survive cause he was thin and teeny, but guess what. Dad took him in, I could see the little one at the entrance of Dad's cave and now the little guy is thriving. He is a wonderful dad, I just could not get over it.
