  1. THanks :happy2: Register ?
  2. Mine just had lots of little babies behind a big stone formation in my tank :happy2:
  3. My big male I got from Snowman and my female finally decided to have the cutest little babies  I went to feed my fish and was suprised when I saw this tiny little bristlenose sucking away on the white stone in my tank, I had a good look and could count several, will see with my next big waterchange how many exactly, don't want to disturb them too much right now :happy2:
  4. Wowsers that is one nice chicken coop !drool: and its not as expensive as I thought
  5. If your doggy is the size of the chickens then just make the fence a little higher until he can't jump it. Also why not bend the one part back so it makes like a little ledge that would prevent him from making a clear jump over. There is always a way if you just presist, best of luck to you
  6. I spend an half an hour for wc once a week Once a month add another half an hour for filter maintanance Every three months add another half an hour onto the above two for system maintanance Not that much time, mind you I only have the one small tank
  7. ryanjury your friend must do his homework before going over permanently . We had to leave there because of job shortage and that was two years ago before the recession. I say for now everyone should stick to their jobs they have, (just my opinion though) they seem to be scarce especially the good ones :-? jim you probably delivered some stuff to my house and I did not even know it LOL. We used to live both in 55 and 59 Kurupae, it was such a lovely street, I enjoyed walking into town and also daily I used to walk next to the lake looking at amazingly at all the warm water popping out every here and there LOL
  8. We used to live there in Kurupae Road in Hilltop, but I knew no fishy people and the small little local pet shop did not have much fishy stuff then, then again that was just over two years ago Its a lovely little town, I loved it there, but then the factory my husband worked for burned down (Tenon) so we had to move to Aucks where there is more work :-?
  9. I buy all my stuff I need for my cat from animates, but when it comes to fish, I drive the extra few km's to Hollywoods Mt Roskill and its worth it even though its quite the trip just for food and filter wool. After the scare I had where I lost nearly half of my tank of fish and my beautiful bristlenose boy I just don't take any more chances. So no hate thread from me just my opinion about the fish part of it :-? and that is for Botany, not that you could not figure it out when you look at my location
  10. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 044920.htm What about something like that
  11. I usually take some water out till just under the filter and outlet (my fish loves to hide there) then I remove everything including heaters. I use two large nets to corner them to the front glass, there I just put the net over them and slowly start lifting the net. Once they see that there is no more water towards the top then they swim straight into the net
  12. Oh wow Caryl that is terrible. My tank temp is 28.4 again The fish seem ok, the otto's seem much more active for one or other reason, hope they are not going mad from the heat :-? Fan is still going, kids are upset that they are hot and the fan is being used for my fish  Gonna hang some washing then do the waterchange, it should bring the temps down again
  13. The room was very hot, but since we basically came home and went off to bed we did not think to check how hot, but the last few days has been super hot and the heat seems to cling not letting go even if I open every door and window in my house. I don't know if its the sea air but the humidity is a killer too :-? I am trying to cool my house now, everything open even the smallest little window, it seems to be working. Tank temp is sitting at 27.9 again  but I have not yet done the waterchange, thought I would do it at four pm so that the tank is cooler for night time. I have checked both heaters and they are working 100% going off at 26 degrees. Its just the heat its a shocker, we need some rain and pronto
  14. Thanks everyone. We were home allday so the flow through the house kept the room temperature down. But later the afternoon we locked up and went to the movies, came home after ten and went to bed. So the house was all closed from about 3pm onwards. First thing I checked was that the heaters were on and off, both were off, so it was due to room temperature, My heaters are all set to 26 degrees. We are considering getting a heatpump to cool the house in summer and heat it in winter, will look into it a bit more now. For now I have the fan going and lights in the tank off. I am due to do a 30% waterchange so that should help with the cooling as well.
  15. I had a very rude awakening at about two this morning when my alarm on my fishtank went off warning me my water has gone above 28 degrees. It was 28.3 and I had to open up windows, doors and put a fan infront of the tank to cool it down, managed to get it down to only 28.1 before I was just to tired to stay up any longer. I noticed today that its 27.6. My tank is supposed to run on 26 degrees max and 24 degrees miniumum. What do you guys do in summer time, do you leave your heaters on in the tank, or do you switch them off and take them out?
  16. +1 edited to add: Never thought of it that way. I am a little put off by being able to see their insides so clearly, else they are probably ok :happy2:
  17. Gosh I am starting to think that its a tradition with them to sacrifice one so the others can live happily ever after. How come just one dissapears everytime when they are new
  18. livingart my Hubby is so happ that you agree with him :happy2: antwan I wonder if its a common thing that happens, they die in the beginning due to stress or something and cause they are so teeny they get eaten or just broken up in the water
  19. I came back from my week long holiday and did my water change today. I found several pieces of silver while gravel vaccing, and was most facinate by what it could be. I did a head count and found all my fish present except for one little otto. Upon further gravel vaccing I found the teeny little piece of tail of an otto. I got six ottos just before we left, had them for three days before we left and all was well. Now I am wondering did it perhaps die from the stress of the drive from north shores hollywoods and then got munced by all in the tank, or was it murdered and why Other tank mates include Harlequins, Rummynoses, Bristlenose, chocolate zebra, glass catfish. cherrie barb and ofcourse other otto's No who did it, my husband thinks it was the lady with the red dress in the study with a candlestick :nilly:
  20. Never knew my surname was a fish LOL, gonna google it now to read up about it :happy2: edited to add this Sam this following quote from the above link made me giggle when I read your siggy
  21. Some of us works a lot with words and books and some of us work very hard with our hands. James is one of the people who works hard with his hands. I have a lot of respect for him, not everything is about having perfect spelling
  22. No I did not, my kids have the tv on cartoon network and nickelodeon the whole time  I would have loved to have seen it though. edited to add If it was on tv, a person would think that some rich person would react to it and bid lots of dollars to help them all, a whole lot of scrooges out there, wish I could win the lotto. I would give them the whole amount and not think twice about it
  23. give all I can to this auction. I would give well over ten thousands if I could, wish I was able to give now, but its allready to high for me to contribute. My heart goes out to them all :tears:
