Unfortuanatly it is in my puffer fish tank so a bristlenose will get picked on and nipped I have removed everything from the tank and used media from my main tank, even put new gravel in and then added some of my fake plants (unfortuanatly the real plants died in that little tank since the light is not sufficient enough so I replanted them in my main tank.) and a little bridge in there. They are very happy and no slime yet. I did speak to the fish manager at animates and he said he would contact the people who supplied them and let them know, in the mean time we washed all the ornaments off and put them in water to see what happens. Perhaps we can keep on doing that till eventually it does not do the slime build up anymore :slfg: edited to add something : I had my two little puffers in a fish bag while I cleaned their tank out and they tried attacking my harlequins through the bag, it was quite something to see, they have so much aggression for a teeny little fish

Hi all I have a small little tank with two puffers in it that has the spongebob theme :gigl: The ornaments keep on building up this thickish white slime coating, almost like that you get on the heaters suckers, but much worse, with the watermovement in the tank it breaks off and falls into the plants, how do I get rid of that? I have taken the ornaments out three times allready and gave them good scrubs with fresh warm water and then I have to do a big waterchange as well, I usually fill up with my main tank water as not too disturb the bacteria growth in the smaller tank. Thanks in advance for any help

I think you can, but I think its best if we leave it cause everybody will read the comments and see the tank is overstocked, but if he sells it privately somewhere else people will not be aware of that fact The above is just my opinion though 8)

I was not blacklisted so I left the following message at both auctions : If you go to this website http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/index.php then you can get a lot of valuable information about the amount of fish in your size tank, please do consider it as your tank is very overstocked and its best if you sell the fish seperately so each can go into a nice bigger tank with more space and hiding places and so on I hope he does not blacklist me I am still new at trademe :gigl:

I have two little ones in a 20 litre blueplanet tank, they are so cute and very clever. I handfeed them bloodworms with a tweezer, they love it. I think I have a male and a female because there is a deffinet difference in colour

will 5 be ok in a little 20 litre tank though? I had to set up a species tank and bought a little 20 litre blue planet tank

Ira I know he might be full on snails, but so would the other one since they both had some. Please note that I also said that he does not look very healthy, he is just sitting on the gravel the whole time, he is not swimming about like his tankmate. And Puffers are very nosy and interested about what goes on around them, usually when I go to the tank both swim out to investigate where as he just sits on the floor not even looking in my direction.

Concerned about my one little puffer. I have one that loves eating, gosh he just had six bloodworms and is so fat he swims all wiggly LOL but the other one swims away everytime I try to feed it, I have noticed that he pecked one bloodworm off the gravel, but he does not look near as healthy as the other one, any suggestions? ps. should add that he has done this since yesterday when he had his first taste of snails, he realy took the hunting seriously of the snails

Feeding time, I just love how they eat  click on the pic to see the video clip

Dwarf Puffers are definitely not community fish and are best kept in a small species setup. Some people do keep them in larger community tanks with success, but it is not recommended. Dwarves are vicious little critters and will nip the fins off just about any other fish. They are capable of killing tank mates much larger than themselves with their relentless picking and nipping. Also, their small size can cause them to be eaten by larger fish. If you're going to keep dwarves, plan to provide them with their very own tank. There are a few tank mates that can be successfully kept with dwarves, though, and are worth mentioning: •Otocinclus - Known as "otos" in the aquarium trade, these little guys are an excellent addition to a dwarf puffer tank. Almost everyone who has tried them has successfully kept them in a dwarf tank with little to no problems. They remain small and do not attract much attention to themselves. They are also algae-eating machines! Learn all about them here. Above is quoted from here http://www.dwarfpuffers.com/ In general, almost all kind of puffers is fin nipper. Or large spiecies can eat another fishes. Dwarf puffer is tiny but is also fin nipper. They nips a caudal fin (tail fin) of another kind of fish and even fellows. They does it when they are hungly, so you can keep another some kinds with them if you could feed enough and didn't make them hungly. In my experience, Otocinclus can be kept with them. At the first time I introduced Otos into the puffer tank, dwarf puffers nipped the caudal fin of Otos. But gradually Otos would swim away when puffers come around thier backward. Otos might learned from the pain...? Now, they have getting along (or ignoring each others). and the above is quoted from here http://www.dwarfpuffers.com/rensaquarium.htm

aww that would be awesome Josh. I think these little guys like hunting that is why they only eat the bloodworm when I wiggle them

I could not get ramshorn snails anywhere so had to settle for some unicorn looking ones I got for free from animates. I think they are eaten well some of them. I saw both puffers viciously attack some of them and now there is one or two that have not moved for ages, I think they just slurped them out of the shells, not to sure how they actually do it, but now they are also so active hunting for snails the whole time, not taking their eyes off them even when I dangle bloodworms infront of their noses LOL

see I told you someone will let you know :bounce: Thanks Phoenix44

This is my two new little puffers. They don't eat if I just throw the bloodworms in the tank, they like to be fed. I take the tweezer and hold the worm wiggling it and then they come closer and take it from me, its so cute  I am waiting for the shops to open so that I can go and buy them some yummy little snails and try and get a hold of a micro worm culture. These two are so cute, love swimming close to each other the whole time

Just thought I would add a pic of my new little tank that is going to house two little dwarf puffers from Saturday :happy2: and my kids did the decoration of it  We are going to have this picture printed out on photo paper at Warehouse stationary as our background

Some more photos and a super big thank you to ghostknife and samh for the beautiful plants they gave me :happy2: and here is what it looks like from the side I sincerely hope I remembered which ones had to be planted and which ones had to be pinched between rocks Only got home about an hour ago and spoke to you guys this morning
-
That is brilliant to hear, so perhaps I can keep them alive :happy2: My lights are on from about 8am to 10pm everyday. I have both on since I got the plants, but I usually only used one for the fish and plastic plants. I will take a photo every week and see how it goes, I am hoping that they will grow nicely. Some cutlings will be brilliant thanks. The more the merrier

First thing I did, they were realy tight around the plants and I don't like lead in my tank, I weigh down veggies with little stainless rods my hubby made me at work. Aww thankies, and yes I will promise to pass on free plantlets (if I am lucky to get some)
-
I would be extremely thankful, just let me know how much. I paid 24 bucks for all of those in the tank with that animates special 6 for 12 dolars, so if they do die, then I did not spend a fortune

Ok all, so wish me luck. I am trying the real plants thing in my fishtank. Now outside water I deffinetly don't have a green thumb, I just look at a plant and it will wilt and die, so lets hope ones in water is different Here goes what I got on Day 1 Sorry for pic quality but my camera is ancient and needs replacing

Freshwater Dwarf Pufferfish Question about compatibility
mcrudd replied to mcrudd's topic in Beginners Corner
You might have had two males SamH It seems that your two original ones stayed awake at night while the others fell asleep LOL Thanks for the advice everyone, Hubby said it sounded like too much trouble. I was a bit dissapointed since this was the first time he agreed to me having a second tank  but I guess some other cute little looking fish will come along soon and have him be so giving again -
:happy1: Super good news
