  1. Yes we should complain, how dare they misinform us :nilly:
  2. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10727157 I am still here :slfg:
  3. Just thought I would update you guys on this subject. I have a very happy six year old daughter playing with all the spongebob ornaments. We tried and tried washing them, boiling them, and sundrying them all day but as soon as they were put in water any water they would build up slime again, so we gave them a scrub and sundried them again and now its toys for my daughter :nilly:
  4. I agree with jim r. I also recently started a planted tank, and in just a month its a jungle in there. All I did was added the plants into my gravel and leave my lights on during the day. I added no special fertilizers or anything like that. All the best for you, its a very nice feeling if your plants start growing and looking all nice
  5. Thought I would update this. I had to take a videoclip and then made photos from pausing the clip, because my old dinosaur camera is not taking nice photo's anymore. Well here is what it looks like now  Some of my Ambulia is growing nicely and some are wilted and brown, but I am leaving them in there just incase they adapt. I have lessened my hours of light and its looking good. I am gonna wait until I must do a nice big waterchange. I do that every three months when I do a system check and then I am gonna remove my background and replace it with a plain black or blue, probably black cause the current one looks weird with life plants :sml2: Below is what a photo looks like. my camera is making weird photos with red lines all over  The flash also takes away the nice bright green colour that the plants are, so the video clip is much better

  7. There were about 5 in there, and 3 were in the little pool they have, I suppose they tried to cool, Its extremely hot and humid in there because it accomodates the butterflies, I had to leave a couple of times and go back in, because my daughter and me battled with the heat. So I just found it interesting when you guys mentioned coldness and burmating.
  8. I am gonna go completely off topic here with a comment. We went to butterfly creek last Friday and they have a water dragon enclosure in the butterfly room, its super duper hot in there so how will they ever burmate :dunno:
  9. I think your bristlenose is innocent  They are usually just aggressive towards each other if it comes to terrority, and then its usually two males rather than a male and female. With other fish and terrority they usually just chase them off. When having a bristlenose its very important to have some sort of bogwood in your tank for them to munch on for digestion. I feed my bristlenose hikari algae wafer, and almost any veggies, but their absolute favourite is raw pumpkin and courgette aka zuchini. They also love the jbl nova tab. Bristlenose is a bottom feeder and will feed on anything in the bottom of the tank that looks yummy, so your platty was probably a snack after its death but I am almost 100% sure he would not kill another fish, they are very peacefull
  10. Now that is interesting. I think I have my lights on too long then, I will shorten my hours of light. I have it on from 8am to 10pm. I will try from 8am to 6pm from now on and see what happens or perhaps from 10am to 8pm somthing like that
  11. I have two airstones in there, both run the whole width of my tank. I am not to sure about co2, don't know anything about it. The ambulia seems to be coming alive now, they are sprouting little new umbrellas at the tops of the plants  They just needed some time to adapt
  12. Friendly fish I had were  Guppies, they were forever around me while I gravel vacced and when I sit infront of the tank they would swim and come and look at me and follow my finger all over Betta, he was very friendly and used to follow me wherever I was in the house, I would see him swim in the direction I used to be and when I came closer he would deffinetly interact with me Bristlenose I have had two bristlenoses one male and one female that were very friendly, they would suck onto my hand while I cleaned and would eat algae wafers from out my hand as well.
  13. I have been reading up on my plants and Ambulia needs medium to low light, so that is why its dying cause I have both lights on from 8am to 10pm everyday. Watersprite needs high light so that is why its growing so quick, what to do what to do ?
  14. :happy2: Yes it loves my tank, all of them are massive allready. Even ones where it was like two little leaves that I planted are halfway up in lenth. I am a bit worried about my Ambulia though, its my favourite but is browning and dying, I am still keeping it in there though with the hope that it will just addapt and start growing
  15. Hi all I have started a thread to show you guys how my tank grows and grows, you can find it here http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=52537 But here is a pic I took 7 May I would once again like to thank SamH and Ghostknife for all their help and free cutlings
  16. I have midnight that I bought from Petstuff in my tank This is what it looks like edited to show you exact gravel I bought from Petstuff as in Link below http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pets-animals/Fish/Stones-pebbles/auction-373642592.htm
  17. I would not recommend it, these little guys might be small but they are super aggressive
  18. Yes just the decorations and its a super thick layer of a cloudy llike slime. I did not really note any smell to them, I do wash anything before it goes in my tank, so I did scrub them with warm water.
