Thanks Hovmoller, I will give it a go I have no idea what to put as a filter Oopsie  edited to add If I add the 8 rummynoses and 6 otto's then my tank is 165% stocked, does not look good, how much is your tanks stocked?

I thought I would add to this thread as to not start another one again. Just a question, I got my little ottos they are the cutest I have ever seen, such sweeties. I got six and now I have 15 harlequins (got ten more babies) and I have 3 glass cats (wanted 3 more but was advised to not get them as those ones at hollywoods were brackish and my tank has no salt in it) so I got 8 rummynoses instead, interesting little guys, so I wanted to get 8 more so the school is bigger, so here comes the question. Is my tank big enough for 8 more rummynoses. Ooh ooh and maybe 6 more otto's? Have a 160 litre blue plantet Vista in it is the following 4 bristelnoses 2 chocolate zebras pleco 15 harlequin 8 rummynose 3 cherriebarb 3 glass catfish

I love spending time infront of my tank. I would like to get more of the rummynoses, I have 15 Harlequins now and would like to have the same amount of rummynoses so the two schools will split more obviously http://www.petstuff101.co.nz/Product.aspx?ID=123 Its midnight gravel, I just love it. I hope Santa visits you too, it just makes a persons day if he comes early That is a great offer, but I am no good at caring for plants outside the aquarium, not sure if I will be any good with ones in the water, Our backyard consists of grass and lots of fruit trees, not one flower LOL

Santa got me a new tank layout and some fishies. I got 10 more Harlequins, 6 otto's and 8 rummy noses. :happy2: I know many of you don't like plastic plants, but I just love these. I got all my ideas from Hollywood fishfarm in Albany. I would also like to thank their staff for all their advice and help, especially Stue that helped me :happy1: a close up of the rummynoses and some of the harlequins, the bigger ones are mine I allready had The rummynoses noses are nice and bright red, I was worried after the long trip they were barely even coloured, but after a while in the tank they started to colour up nicely edited to add the hollywoods employee's name that helped me. Thanks so much Stue

Santa is emailing kids now (no kids to look at this thread)
mcrudd replied to mcrudd's topic in The Off Topic Fishroom
You can sent some to adults too, Santa knows that I want more fish for my tank LOL, getting it tomorrow from Hollywoods, but I must drive all the way to Albany cause Mt Roskill don't have any glass cats -
Santa sent both my kids emails, they were absolutely dumbstruck at how Santa knew what was going on in our house. You can let santa sent your kids emails too, its a free application. Here is the two emails we received from Santa. http://www.portablenorthpole.tv/watch/b ... Ct4Nmp2s5w http://www.portablenorthpole.tv/watch/r ... ZOs1PeNOAw The first link is for my daughter Stephanie and the second for my son Percy, Santa did not say his name as its not a common name and they did not have it in the system, but he said my daughters name  Just click on the big pnp and then you can set up your own message for your child

Thanks Stella I get realy upset with people who don't intend to breed their cats and then never spay/neuter them. Then they go running to the spca when their male cat becomes naughty and goes and sprays in the neighbours houses or that he is never home. For female cats they get upset that their cat steals food and jumps on counters and is also almost never home herself besides when she is tired and pregnant. People must understand that cats can be good. My cat never jumps on counters cause she has never had the need to steal food, and very importantly she has never had the taste of human food, she only knows her catfood. She gets treated by once a day having a tiny little bit of whiskas milk, which she can insist on if I forget  She loves being home with us and is hardly in the streets. She never scratches my furniture cause I had a nice scratch post for her since the day I got her. Tiny little things a person must do to have a good behaving cat, if you do them, then you won't get upset and drop the cat of at the spca when they "get to much to handle". and I am sure it works that way with all other pets, though I am not too familiar with those, except for fish now, thankfully they always seem to behave and stay where I tell them too

Glad you guys enjoyed it, my kids just loved looking at it

Kitten action mums took care of abandoned pregnant cats (even ferral ones) and also some sad cases of abandoned newborn kittens. If we did get abandoned newborn kittens then we would first try and place them with a mum that just had kittens if we can't manage one then it was three hourly feeds and being mum ourselfs.

I have not attempted picking up any live fish or dead for that matter, but the first time a big bristlenose male swam onto my hand and sucked it there was one hell of a big splash and water every where when I got a fright Now I am used to it and just wait for it to go find a new hidey hole

:bounce: Yay, thanks Bishop

http://www.blueplanetaquariums.com/Port ... lter_H.htm I have a filter like the one in the video, mine is just much bigger. Not sure what they are called. Its fantastic news if its just air Insect Direct, lets hope its that. I will go and price these just incase :-? Bishop I did turn a little on that little fan thingy in the motor so perhaps you could be right too either way I think I will take my blueplanet card with the filter details and see what I can buy just in case

HI all, Gosh I had such a big fright yesterday. Our power went off from about 12:30 to 2:30 (a guy folded his car around a powerpole) and when the power came back on my pump for my filter made these gurgling sounds like it always does when you switch it on again as it sucks the filter full of water again. BUT that is all it did, it was not sucking the water in I could see it attempt to but it was not managin, I was in a hurry to get to Keas as the kids were doing a concert and I am a leader so all I did was switch it off and add another bubble wall so the fish won't run out of oxygen, when I got home it was working again as I switched it on. Does this mean my filter pump is busy going downhill or does that happen sometimes. Should a person try and have a spare one?

Just to explain this a bit more. Have you ever noticed a mum cat using the litterbox more often while she has kittens, its cause kittens learn by seeing what mom does. Its monkey see monkey do. So your kitten did not have enough time to observe mum it was probably teeny when you got it. So now you have to teach it, now you can't use the litterbox, so kitten can look, so you really need to concentrate on watching your kitten closely and as soon as it wants to wee put it in the nearest litterbox. I suggest getting more than one for the time being. All the best

Agreed. I used to be a kitten action mom and we never let a kitten go before it was old enough to be spayed which was usually done at about ten weeks, which gives them another two weeks to heal and be with mum for the healing process. We used to wait until the kitten was six months, but over years found that many would be pregnant at age four months allready. Surgery methods have also changed over the years to allow an earlier spaying and neutering (sp) I would also like to add that before mum was rehomed once all her kittens got homes she was also spayed. Its a good idea to have your cat spayed/neutred if you know you are not going to breed it. Lots of problems start with both male and female cats if they are not spayed/neutred. Female cats start stealing food and male cats start walking away from home more often. Both you and the cat benefit from that, well to get back to the point, the cat was too young when it left its mum and is probably acting as a super young kitten would have. It pees when next to someone warm cause it expects to be cleaned by you as mom used to clean it while it was "potty training". You would have to keep a close eye and physically potty train the kitten by lifting it to the nearest kitty litter when you see it starting to pee. NEVER punish it, but do clean up very thoroughly where it peed, I suggest getting a special spray from the vets to preven the kitten from peeing there again. All the best for you and your kitten. Keep us updated, Just prevail and you will be successfull
