I was so happy to see him eat, wanted to take a video clip to show you all, but my camera batteries are flat from leaving it on for my step by step instructions I did for the cave. I will buy batteries and take a little clip, its so heartfelt to see  -

Wonderful News  I have figured out how to feed little zombie. He is eating so well right now. I watched him closely for a little while and took note at what level he favours to swim and then I took one of the jbl nova tabs and stuck them to the glass on that level. He started swimming closer and bumped into it and now he keeps on eating. Sometimes he swims away from it, but he finds his way back :happy2: I am so happy, I will put the nova tab in for him everyday in the exact same spot and then he should be able to feed himself and remember where his food is :bounce: -

I have another little one that only has one eye, he seems to be doing very well, he even manages to stick with the school, its just my completely blind little one that is having a hard time. My kids named him Zombie, they love him just as dearly as I do, I sincerely hope that I can fatten him up and keep him alive. -

I had to shorten their quarantine time because my little heater officially packed up  Will get a new one next time I am near hollywoods. They school very nicely with my bigger ones, my one blind little one has me a bit worried, he is completely lost, thankfully I have airwalls on both sides so he has not hit the glass yet, just sometimes get stuck between the plants. I think he is trying to swim down to scavange for food and is unable to because of the plants, so now I see to it that he eats by holding the frozen food cube near him so he can smell it and then bang he swims in to it and has a nibble, then I try again until eventually the whole cube breaks up. I do that twice a day, not sure if he will make it though he is a skinny little guy in comparison to the others, but I won't give up on him, its not his fault both his eyes were taken from him :tears: ps. I will take pics later tonight when its darker and my kids are in bed -
Thank you :happy2: I am very pleased how it came out. I will put them in when they are completely cured, I currently have my choccies hiding behind the heater guards

Shame had him at the doctor and it turned out to be mumps I finished my two little caves, I love how they came out, now for three days to fly by so I can put it in my tank :spop: http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=52959

I made two little caves for my chocolate zebras. I used black grit gravel, same as what I have in my tank, selleys glass silicone, and one small potplant. Cost for the above was $12 gravel, $20 silicone and $1,50 potplant, the gravel was bought at Hollywood fishfarm Albany and the silicone and potplant was bought from hammer hardware. I tried sawing the potplant, but it cracked and so I had two different sizes and not two perfect halves. Hubby was gonna help me, but he has mumps I first siliconed the inside, using an old paintbrush to help me even it out nicely Then I completely covered the inside with gravel and compacted it so it will stick to the sides I then removed the sand and it looked like this I then siliconed the top and filled it with gravel as I did the inside, once done removed the gravel and this was my result I repeated the whole process with the other side and ended up with two little caves that will blend in with my current gravel I can't wait to see what it will look like in my tank, but I have three more days to wait so the silicone can cure nicely, hope my fish like it :spop:

Took the kids to school, took husband to the doctor to find out he does not have manflue after all, he has mumps
-
I would fill it with lots of small schools and then add a couple of super nice plecos and I would go diving to handfeed them everyday  I dream often of swimming around with my fish, it would be a dream come true

Thanks Zev, I just walked over to hammer hardware and bought the shelley one, it clearly said safe for aquarium use. I also got a little potplant for a dollar fifty, the silicone was twenty dollars but I could not be bothered to wait until my hubby can drive me into Botany to get it for a bit cheaper at Bunnings. He has manflue  I will wait until he awakens and then ask him to tell me where the tools are to cut the little clay pot, I am so excited. Will take photo's as I do it :spop:

The only reason I deworm, is because I once bought Mollies and quarantined them for two weeks and then they went into my main tank. A week later the mollies started dying of what looked like starvation and then all my other fish started losing weight and dying, I nearly lost 50% of my tank. After a lot of looking for help, I finally found out the Mollies had intestinal worms and I had to deworm my main tank, since I don't like treating my main tank the whole time I quarantine deworm fish just in case. I do not want a repeat of what happened and that was after two weeks quarantine. I do not know of many people who will actually quarantine for two weeks.

Thanks GZ_Loach I will look out for the other brand too if I don't come right with the Shelley one  Great idea Caryl, I will ask them

sure, you just love pics don't you :sml1: Might have pics of all the harlequins sooner than a week, I might have to put them in my main tank tomorrow, if I notice that the temp is too low again. My heater needs replacing then :nilly:

Thanks Squirt and Mark, I just found this link here http://selleys.com.au/sealants/silicone/glass that one states aquarium glass, the others did not say it at all, so I will get this one, its the same one as yours Mark. Thanks for all the help everyone
-
Thanks Squirt and GZ_Loach  Just a stupid question, but what should it say on the silicone so I know I have the right one. I have read through several today and did not see safe in aquariums on one of them, so does it say something different?

Hi guys I read somewhere on the forums about cutting a flowerpot in half and then glueing gravel to it, to make a super looking cave. I would like to buy a small little flowerpot, half it and do that. So here comes the question, what do I use to glue the gravel. I thought of buying the aquarium safe silicon from animates but nearly fell over when I saw the price. Is there a silicone from bunnings that is aquarium safe I could try instead. Someone also suggested apoxy resin, but I am super scared I am gonna kill my fish. Could you guys please advice me what to use and how long it must dry before going into the tank :dunno:

I have a tiny little 30 litre glass tank, with a small little filter and heater and airstone, that has gravel in and is on standby. When I need it, I take a bit of my main tank's filtermedia and water and quickly set it up. I will need to buy a new heater though, this one is busy giving in now, its battling to keep temp up.
-
Did my big waterchanges on both tanks, and had filter maintanance and system check today. I moved the plants around in my big tank, the ones that grow super quick like watersprite is more to the back so I can see the others and my fish can have space to swim around. I might have to put my new harlequins in the main tank sooner than usual because my little heater is not doing to well, but its ok, they look fine and is now dewormed  I hope my blind one will make it, he should figure out my big tank and hopefully scavange around for food

Today I saw both my kids win their soccer matches :happy2: We drove all the way out to Albany, saw some of the tornado damage when we went for lunch at the Westfield mall Went to Hollywood fishfarm in Albany and got some harlequins and odds and ends :happy1: Came home fed the pufferfish settled the Harlequins in quarantine  Now I am currently sitting infront of my tank plotting on what I want to do to make it better :nilly:

The one with no eyes have figured out the size of the tank now, he will have to figure it out again when he goes into the main tank, only thing I am worried about is whether he will get enough food, I guess only time will tell. The one with only one eye is doing ok, being able to see out of his eye, he is a bit late with turning with the whole school, but he catches up with them again. My son (12) named the no eyes one Zombie, so he is going to stay until he is ready for the big fishbowl in the sky, I see no reason of gettting rid of the poor fish just because they got attacked and lost their eyes. I love them equally  -
I use the one Hollywoods mixed up, but its no longer available there anymore, so no idea what to use once that runs out

Just gave them some food and noticed that one has absolutely no eyes and one has only one eye. Will they survive, I don't wanna kill them just cause they are blind :tears:
