  1. I think i will go for Panacur. Is it called "Panacur 100" or just "Panacur" from vet ?
  2. whata the brand and model of that bio-filter that you have in the tank ?
  3. I have few tanks, most of them are guppies, I have clown loaches, SAEs, and GBAs as well. Guppies are very friendly, that they always come close when I go near the tank. I separate young ones ever since they are born, and they become friendly too about 3rd or 4th week. Loaches are shy, always play with themselves. Never get a food from my hands....sad...they are really cute though. SAEs are alert, sometimes they swim like flying (hence flying fox?), if I dont catch them for at least 5 months, they are willing to get bloodworms from me, otherwise they always keep a distant from you. GBAs...mmmm, I wonder if they care anything. Questions: 1. What makes guppies so friendly ? Are they friendly to cats as well who always try to scoop them out? 2. What are other friendly fish that you have ?
  4. I would like to know where I could find some creeks which have freshwater shrimps in Auckland, or more precisely, Northshore. Aint looking for koura, but those transparent ones which eats algae. I have a 400L tank and looking for 30ish to throw them in to do the work.

    Power bills.

Do you guys use proper insulation polys ? how thick are them ?
  6. Huge thanks for the tips. Too bad my Ambulia bends to the level of water so I proly will double dose it first. or 2.5 times, give it a shock treatment and see how it goes. In terms of Phosphate, will adding liquid fertilizer do ? I am having a 300L tank, width 150cm, height 53cm, and I am on 4 T5 tubes 40W each, 1 power glo, 2 OSRAM 865 and 1 OSRAM 840, not sure if the light is too strong. Weird thing is that, I have a 60L tank, running on one OSRAM 840 light, and ambulia in it is perfectly fine, grow like crazy, no algae in the tank at all. A lot duck weeds though, I hate duck weeds.

    Power bills.

@waterlogged: Which plan are you on ? I start to doubt if there is a monster sucking out power at home now.

    Power bills.

I have my tanks in the garage. The garage is cool all year, not cold though, but still different from a warmly house, so I assume my heaters are on most of the time. What could I do to keep the tank warm ? I have putting polys around the tank during the night, not sure if it works.

    Power bills.

    Winter is coming and I do wonder what power companies do people use. I am using Genesis and it roughly cost me $160 in summer and $250 in winter.....it is expensive (kinda) to me. I have 400L tank: 120W lights + 2 x 200W heater + 2 x 55W filter = 630W 60L tank: 40W light + 1 x 50W heater + 2 x 15W filter = 120W 75L tank: 100W heater + 1 x 30 W filter = 130W so that is roughly 900W in total. (900 W / 1000 W) * 24 hours * 0.75 (factor that lights are off half day) * 30 days = 486 units. I am having 21cent per units so that is $102 Anyone with similar setup, or cheapter elec. rate ? of which company and which plan ? cheers.
  10. Hi, it appears that I have algaes on my ambulia leaves. It even make the ambulia leaves become weaker. Pics are as follows: Fig. 1 Fig. 2 Fig. 3 Fig. 4 Fig. 5 I found many IDs of algae from this site : http://www.guitarfish.org/algae I was thinking they could be the following: 1. Chladophora 2. Blue Green (Cyanobacteria) 3. Fuzz Algae 4. Hair/Thread Algae 5. Staghorn (Compsopogon sp.) or combination of those. However, from my pics they all look like similar, so I need some help. cheers.
  11. then true beauty those guppies are!
  12. what kind of lightings do you have ? i know it sounds a bit off-topic but lighting do affects guppies color
  13. Yes, I am thinking of de-worm my fish with aviverm (my other recent post) and now thinking to get prazi to get rid of flukes. Saw in the forum, one can get droncit (for dog) from Vet, but the thing is, I dont have any dogs, can I still get droncit from them ? Second, I have a 400L tank and I want to do a whole tank de-worm-ing, as 1 pill per 25L ratio, I figure I will need 16 pills of droncit per treatment, but I heard that 1 droncit pill can be used for a 20kg pupp, 16 pills sound like I am treating a lion......so the question is, what is the best way to get 32 droncit pills and how much money I am looking at, as at year 2011 ? Hope I have done enough homework here and thanks for replies.
