  1. Red finned Cigar shark - Leptobarbus rubripinna. At least as far as I know.
  2. Bad pics but here he is. Makes the Bala look like tetra.
  3. Heres the big cigar. Took a battering while trying to catch it, they have one hell of a powerful tail.
  4. Bloodworms are very low in fibre (I think someone clarify) That could be the cause right there, can lead to constipation which tends to lead to dropsy. I would cut the bloodworms out for a while, only feed them every 4 days or so.
  5. I see what you mean p44, Eupterus with Juvenile network patterning is very similar.
  6. Looking at my Euptera, and looking at that schoutedeni I can't see many similarities other then the obvious, body shape, mouth, barbells and fins are all quite different. There are only maybe 2 pictures of schoutedeni that look the same, they are very varied in colour and patterning too. http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=350 The vermiculated My euptera is much younger though, maybe just under a year old. I will watch that cigar and try and keep it well fed, I would imagine not all the plants in there are very tasty, especially when you have a mean diet of 2 telegraph cucumbers per week, and 2 zuchinni. If I loose the plants then I loose them, its hard work replanting everything once a week anyways. Maybe I can get a muzzle for it, its getting close to 3 foot in length.
  7. They dont look the best, try feeding them some cooked shelled pea, its a natural laxative they might have a blockage. The other thing to try is an epsom salt bath. HTH

    welcome to the forums
  9. lil update pic I took this morning. Bala school is up to 6 now, and I have another 4 growing out to go in. Plants are doing ok but I might be putting a large cigar shark in so I guess that will be the end of that I have a light and a dark side of the tank now, to reduce power used and to make the bichir more comfortable.
  10. Happy Birthday for the 7th :bounce:
  11. Thanks Stella! I can do my research on them now. No plans for crays other then on my dinner plate maybe once this year. No signs of white spot yet touch wood (they should really make wooden keys) but I will reserve a fish bin/quarantine zone for any new comers. I hope she keeps the colour, there were some very dark blue ones too, but they have lost most of their colour. Local stream, swishing nets through masses of oxygen weed can be quite rewarding at times.
  12. Started myself a native fresh water tank, only have a few bits and pieces so far. I went fishing though and got myself 2 little bullies and a few shrimp. Could someone please I.D. these bullies for me. Black shrimp, or very dark blue. Also any ideas as to what I should add to the tank, keeping it below 18'c quite easily, but we have not hit the height of summer yet.
  13. Happy Birthday Zev! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: I hope you had a great day!
  14. I can barely get my Dad to look at my tanks let alone swim through the plants.
  15. Oh I guess not, A well behaved Bogan then.
  16. Oh dear............. :-? I have so many cheeky remarks for those, I'll be a good bogan though.
  17. Almost looks like a red footed. https://webspace.utexas.edu/s681/webpage/Pet/Larger/RedFootedTortoise.jpg Its very cute.
  18. Wow where? I was living in edgecumbe when the earthquake struck there, there was a few aftershocks that were only just over 4, but they were close, so we felt them alright and they still caused a fair amount of damage.
  19. Forget the tank bro you got fry! edit: I mean eggs, long day  Did you seed your water outside? I get green water in a week or less, seed with grass clippings or a bit of cow pat. Congrats on the spawn though, very well done.
  20. She gave birth again today, 4 albino fry alive and well (for now) parents seem to have eaten a fair few and there was about 6 still born. 2 are pink and 2 gold, all 4 red eyes. The other female in the tank with her also has a pink gravid spot. She looks close to dropping. The fry are tiny, about 1/4 to half the size of a normal guppy fry.
  21. Give them time to get used to you, when you feed and interact with them keep a camera close to the glass so they get used to it being there. They turn into little posers after a while. It still requires a certain amount of patience. Took these just now, my lil fella couldnt make it much easier, 2 decent shots out of 2 attempts I hate algae
  22. Still need some pictures sending, if they are having trouble being sent due to email size caps then let me know and I will bring a flash card and come collect them. Would like to get this finished so I can get back to the less important assignments due shortly for polytech.
  23. They don't have any left, not for a few years now. I think the salties were buying them in bulk, they were quite popular with married couples and parents too.
  24. I feel so lucky I was there to watch first hand, Thanks to L.A. for giving us the chance to see it all happen. Note to self: Don't get reincarnated as a seahorse. :-?
  25. I wonder if $4 will still get me a can of Mother.
