  1. I cant remember exactly but I think thats one of the ways to sex them. I think the fatter ones with the more paddle shaped caudal is the female. The female ornate is certainly a lot more solid then the males and the caudal fins are different too, I cant imagine the delhezi's being too different, I'd been thinking that del in my tank is a female but I havnt seen any more that size to compare. Thanks Zev its a good read, it still hasnt sunk in so im glad you linked that. I'll be picking up some new tubes next week I cant wait to try get the plants cranking. If I can get the lighting high enough I may even try getting some HG or Glosso to take off in there. Green green green! Only 1 plant floating this morning!!!! Im slowly winning. Plenty of gravel depth so a week or so and they should be well rooted. The male ornates look to have had a fight, one dorsal ray missing on the smallest one, and the female has a tiny wound near her caudal fins, shes also very fat and the smallest male is always right on top of her, might be some action to come within the next week or so. Poor Bertie seems to have lost the mating rights and has his own territory down the other end of the tank now.
  2. Yeah it needs more plants all through it IMO but I love to sea tanks flooded with lush green plants. Im hoping that the windelov and anubis will cover those bits of wood. Tried getting ya pics, Not easy when they are all hiding. But here ya go, 1 dehezi, 2 ornates and 2 senegals all in the same pic.
  3. Cheers Looked into the lighting more today, I need to replace 3 tubes they are 3350k Switched on Gardener has 4 foot 15000k t8 tubes for $34 Mitre 10 Mega didnt know what lumens were or T8 for that matter (after school staff  ) Anyone know a retail store that sells them cheaper then SOG? I've looked on TM but theres nothing local.
  4. Things have been going well, wow can this tank put some food away. Still slowly adding plants as my smaller tanks grow them out, that hideous pipe towards the back is connected to a canister filter Im using to polish the water, not a long term feature. Plan to add some different tubes in, I like the 15000k tricolour with the 6500k, seems to be a good combination. I've thought about an Aro, I really liked the black Aro they had at the fishbowl in Hamilton. But I decided on getting the bala school larger and 2 geo suri pairs. Anyways the pics, sorry they are so grainy, camera doesnt like the lighting in that room much.
  5. Some long pieces of timber could be useful, easier to hang on to and can support the length of the tank. Best of luck!
  6. Considering its 12mm glass I would be careful to ensure there are more lifters there then needed. Taking the weight is one thing but lifting it with correct support is another. Its a large tank, and quite high, nothing wrong with being safe rather then sorry, a couple of bottles of wine and a box of beer should supply you with plenty of lifters.
  7. Id say around 8 people to be safe. I lifted my 4 foot myself but I wouldnt recommend attempting anything like that, hard on the bracing and your back.
  8. Very quickly getting that way for me too, specially with the POTM pic. Almost voted against myself.
  9. Crypts, swords, anubis, java ferns and tiger lotus is all doing well with my Birchirs. Stem plants break up too much when they go blundering through them. Im going to try some dwarf sag as soon as I manage to get ahold of some.
  10. Thankyou! Hehe so do I, unfortunately its not my lawn, ours is tiny and too many cats and dogs in the neighbourhood to risk leaving her outside. That place is great, big vege garden, lots of fruit trees, and a fence thats concreted into the ground. When shes had enough she comes back to me or her enclosure, its really cool I had no idea they were so smart and trainable. Thanks! She wasnt keen on the oranges but the ugly fruit on the other side went down very well. I left all sorts of veges and fruit all over the lawn so she was having a great time cruising around and eating everything. The only potential problem is there is a large amount of Ladybugs on the section, they crawl all over her and look to try push in between the scales, Their colour doesnt look too inviting either.
  11. Ok im drooling, I dont like pumpkin but wow does that look good!
  12. Try avoid posts in the salt water section then, trust me it only makes matters worse!
  13. Looking good, Needs a few more hiding places for your Birchirs though. I cant see the pics clearly enough, are they surinemsis?
  14. Youngest should be 6th form this year had he not left, eldest left last year after 7th form.
  15. Yup a cutie alright. I know what you mean about them growing up fast, the nieces and nephew seem to be growing like they're on ferts and co2, only felt like yesterday they were red things that slept, cried, pooped and ate, now Im getting 1000 "whys" per minute.
  16. You guys at WBHS will know my Cuzzies! Good school apparently, well my Uncle constantly curses about the fees.
  17. Congratulations! :bounce:
  18. Looks lovely Adrienne you should be really proud of that. As mentioned by others. Flourish and Co2 works well on green hair algae, I used a syringe in one extreme case to squirt the excel right on where the hair algae was attached to the plants.
  19. 2 plecos not sure what kinds. Vermiculated Synodontis, and 3 hoplo's Im not far off adding the decorus hybrid syno too as hes getting rather large.
  20. Thanks Morcs Ill try the Hills as the dog can help eat it to keep it fresh, I tried the single serve catfood sachets yesterday but she wasnt keen, she did love some fresh beef mince though. Shes got a banana for tomorrow now Im really looking forward to feeding it to her with some snails and earthworms. She had a big feed of silver beat, broccoli and carrot today, loves grated carrot, and an earth worm for desert which had her almost drooling.
