  1. Gas stations around here are queued out onto the road, people there with cans, lawn mowers all sorts. 7c is a big one, glad I got rid of the young idiot vehicle all those years back.

    beautiful tank well done!
  3. Lol yeah, he hasnt been naughty yet, but Im thinking its only a matter of time. Though who he chooses to tick off could work out to be very bad for him. Already getting a lot more interest in him then I thought I would, I think I'll decide tomorrow if hes in or out.
  4. Oh dear whats he done now, I hope hes alright, send him my best wishes.
  5. he's a cool fish but I'm leaning towards not keeping him at the moment, not that hes caused any trouble, but I have so many nocturnal fish in there it might be better to use the space he would take for something a little more out going. So hard to get a pic of him too, even when he keeps still. I guess I should think about cleaning that glass one day before p44 knocks on my door with Mr Muscle and some news paper.
  6. Could those of you who took pictures, please send them to me so I can do the article for AW. [email protected] It was a great day, thanks to Stuart for organising this.
  7. LOL! I wonder how successful these scams are, its been going on for a long time now, I still get the odd one from some princess or presidents daughter who has picked me to save her from her terrible life. None of them have offered to bring me fish though!
  8. Looks like these guys are just as bad if not worse. Heard of them cleaning out entire tanks of african cichlids. At least nothing in my tank is small enough to be lunch but I think I should still keep an eye on things and check his tank mates each morning. Price was too good to resist.
  9. Hes about 25 - 30cm I have no other knifefish so this will be the only one if I decide to keep him. Sorry about the glass p44, but the cats fishing spot is right above that part of the tank, I cant be bothered cleaning the water marks off daily. Notopterus notopterus looks about right, thanks a bunch people. Not sure if Im going to hang on to it or not, will see how he gets on with the other fish.
  10. But what type? Got him today for a bargain, a bit battered from it all but hes fairing well. Took these pics without the lights on the tank so he would come out, sorry bad pics but it shows the colouring, head and tail. Body looks like a clown but no spots. Impulse buy so I havnt exactly researched these well.... Hes already evicted a pleco and has a cave, munched back a few bits of ox heart too so Im pleased he seems to be settling in so quickly.
  11. Got the camera packed, and Im taking notes, a few green ones.
  12. Stella is right, problem is in urban areas chasing a cat around the yard with your zipper down could attract unwanted attention.
  13. Get your water going now, so there is plenty for them to eat when you get them.
  14. Lol thats one way of looking at it, Id put it down to being a smoker.
  15. Lol yup, neighbours think I am souly responsible for the entire mozzy population in greeton. I dont get bitten though...
  16. I cultivate brine shrimp but find only the adults are large enough for the puffers to be interested, to grow them to adults you would need to get some phytoplankton or something similar, seriously white worms and daphnia are a lot easier. I can send you a white worm starter culture, if daphnia would post I could send that too but I dont think it will fair well at all. I was going to save this for the next POTM but what the heck, this is my little guy, lives off Daphnia, White worms, and ramshorns, mozzy larvae and the odd brine shrimp, I cant get him to eat bloodworms anymore.
  17. I just have a drum cut in half outside, I filled it with water and left it for a few weeks, the water turned green. Luckily for me I had some just down the road (thanks LA) but otherwise I would have advertised on here that I was looking for some. No heating or lighting, just a drum outside. I have heard of people heating it over winter, and keeping it inside under lighting, I think if you get temperatures that are likely to freeze the water that might be a good idea, or if you need mega amounts for fry rearing then keeping the temperatures up over winter wont have a population decline. They eat algae, not all forms, I find infusoria is best. Easiest way I found to grow that is in sunlight, not flouro. But, if you can get green water inside under flouro, then daphnia will thrive.
  18. DP's can be fussy so I find feeding the live foods are a lot easier, and there's very little waste as they love it so much. I also believe that you loose some nutrition when freezing, and when they are so easy to cultivate it seems silly not to.
  19. yeah same here, they were doing better then the daphnia over winter, their numbers dropped off a lot.
  20. all the foods I mentioned bar the bloodworms are fed live. Daphnia is easy, was my first live food, container outside till the water is green, add daphnia and wait a few weeks for the numbers to increase. White worms are also easy, I just have them in dirt, keep it just moist enough so the dirt will clump is squeezed hard, trickier to harvest them though, but still only takes 2 mins or so. I find the daphnia is particular great for them, not only do they keep the teeth in check, but they swim quite well so they provide entertainment for the DP's as they cruise around hunting. Ive never seen my DP bite the shell on a ramshorn, he just hovers above till it stick out its head then whack! Then I end up with half eaten snails fouling the water.
  21. seems all the placid puffers are up that way, all the nasty ones come here lol.
  22. If you manage to get them old enough to sex then its easier as you can get the male to female ratio right. Get some white worms if you can and daphnia, live is the way to go. Daphnia is great too, being crustacea they are a little crunchy so good for the teeth. Whiteworms, ramshorns, daphnia and bloodworm should have you some healthy puffers.
  23. go to photobucket, make an account. Under the big button that says 'Upload Images and Video' there is a link there that says 'more options' click that then in the basic options menu choose 640x480 that will resize all your images to a size that works with these forums. Then, upload your photos, and hover the mouse over the thumbnail, you should see a line that says IMG code. Copy that whole line and paste. I hope that explained it well enough, its not my strong point.
  24. wow 5 in an ar380, I wonder how many they went through before they got 5 with a higher tolerance level. My DP tank has 3x the footprint of an ar380, I've lost 3 DP's due to aggression and the tank is just chocka full of hiding places, heavily planted. So I guess all I can say is good luck
  25. I would still advise against getting 3 for 38 ltrs. 2 would be pushing it especially if its an AR380.
