    room on a slope

Try a joinery that produces kitchens and ask for some of the sample cards of the bench laminates - if they have some old samples (for no longer stocked laminates) they may be happy to give them to you. I find these ideal for many uses.
  2. Was about tanks had home in Prebbleton but when we got home found everything ok there - it appears quake & aftershocks were centred under Chch city.
  3. We were in Ballantyne's at 10:30 when it struck ... it was terrifying, walls & pillars moved, things strewn everywhere over floors, no lights, we were glad to get out of there. Now see the Guthrie Cente (next door) is structurally damaged and Ballantynes is going to need Engineers to assess it's safety. At Westfield Mall Riccarton, Farmers & DickSmith had roped off areas where part of the ceilings had fallen in. Felt like way more than 4.9.
  4. I love the Renas to, especially the fact you can hook it up to the filter intake and it heats he water passing thru into the filter and then the filter outlet does the work of dispersing the warmer water.

    Lid Security?

I have given some thought to this since the earthquake when my lids got upset and fell into the tank chipping glass and getting cracks. Also got a lot of water damge due to water sloshing out. One possibility was heavier lids - downside is possibility more damage if we get another quake as heavier lids would cause more damage with their weight. Another idea I am looking to try is a velcro harness around the outside of the tank (just below the top) with 3 valcro strips branching over the top of the tank and each of the 3 lids, If I use black velcro oround outside it should blend in with the black plastic tank rim and may use clear velcro, if it exists, otherwise white acros lids.
  6. You have a duty to report it to OSH, if you don't report it to the top boss and the idiot goes on to hurt or kill someone you could be held liable .... at least (for your protection) email or write to the 2IC stating your thoughts and what you see as the outcome, you then have proof you have passed this on to a Manager and put liability on him.
  7. Slightly off the topic ..... I find the rubber backed mouse pads (older style) very effective in dampening down noise from airpump (also good way to recycle the old mouse pads).
  8. 1) Stay CALM 2) Concentrate on what YOU CAN DO for your kids 3) DO NOT get into a slanging match or tit for tat with your ex Very important: you focus on the kids while your ex does the slanging and the rest of it, then you come out looking god to the childrens advocate (plus it is not good for kids to have their parents at each others throats in front of them). So stay calm, look out for your kids and let your solicitor deal with any bad stuff from your partner. Remember, if you lose your cool you come out looking bad, stay calm and your partner looks bad and take pride in not coming down to their level. I know .... I've been there. Good luck
  9. what are your questions? have had some dealings with family court in terms of trying for joint custody and reviews of family support, etc
  10. We are in Prebbleton in a newish house with a concrete floor. When the quake struck several bookshelves and wall units on the WEST side threw al contents to the floor and some toppled. Tank 1 is a 200 litre AquaOne Euroview tank sitting on a standard AquaOne cabinet ... it sat against an east wall (lengthways its along a north/south line) and in the quake one end walked out about 1/2 a metre from the wall. The lids fell into tank are chipped/cracked. Approx 70 litres sloshed out onto 2 sofas and across the floor into curtains leaving them water stained. It's unbelievable how much damage a little water can do. The cabinet is now delaminating from the water damage and one plastic leg on the base is cracked. Tanks 2 was a 23 litre tank also on an East wall and Tank 3 was a 10 litre square tank sitting in front of Tank 2. These also had their glass lids fall in and lost a 1/3 of their watr causing more damage. These tanks were sitting on a low filing cabinet. Tank 4 is a 53 litre tank facing south in the garage. It is on a solid table and only sloshed 20% of water out. Tank 1 was the most likely to fall but it's position in relation to the quake force saved it. I will replace the 4mm glass lids with 6mm ones .... they won't sit as flush but will be heavier. I am also think of making a velco harness for the top portion of the tank that will hold the lids on better and if they don't move maybe the water will not get as much movement happening. Biggest issue was no power for 3 days - I kept fish alive in a bucket with 30 min water changes from the remnants of water I could get out of the hot water tank. In the end I lost 3 clown loaches, a couple of platies and a keyhole cichlid. I was glad when we finally got power back on thge Monday night. Another loss was 2 heaters, internals were damaged when the quake shook them against side walls of the tanks. No probs though with the Rena heaters and can highly recommend them. btw - I have shelving in the garage similar to that used by the Supermarkets and The Warehouse. These are not bolted down and are loaded heavily with camping equipment. These are lined up east/west. They did not move and not one thing fell off them. Now just need the assesors to come so I can arrange a replacements cabinet & glass lids.
  11. Around $50 per set ... I got them as I wanted more flexible options for positioning the intake & outlets
  12. Got both sets the other day from HFF but the tell me the 2nd set is now no longer being made (I got their last one).
  13. then you will also know even lighter ones can do a lot of damage depending on the construction of your house, soil types, distance from centre etc, etc. (P.S I was an 11 year old in Reefton during the Inangahua quake too)
  14. The original on 04-Sep was 7.1 but this one started the same way as that one (up to now, of all the 1300 aftershocks, none had that same feel) .... Phoenix, you would have to go them to comprehend what we feel.
