  1. how about some of the bigger tetras? like bleeding hearts or black widows for example?
  2. they can be territorial i guess but i never heard of them injuring another fish.
  3. filter will remove the bigger bits and WCs should keep it under control, but i like tanin stained tanks, looks more natural, esp with 6500K lights
  4. nope I remember that discussion a while back. would be cool though
  5. south american tank with dwarf cichlids? great for a medium sized tank
  6. in my opinion flying foxes are cooler anyway, more colourful
  7. fins will heal, some kind of medication would help, melafix is good
  8. leaf fish are awesome! they don't get very big so I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be OK in that tank. they like their live food though...
  9. that wood could either look awesome or horrible... good luck with that
  10. In the past ive done one of two things: 1. choose one or two feature fish and then pick other fish that fit with those fish or 2. choose fish all from one biotope. you don't need to be super crazy about it, eg south american river, african lake, asian pool. etc.
  11. They should breed better in brackish. Males have a Gonopodium and a larger dorsal fin than females
  12. why not place both outlets at one end and both inlets at the other? like a stream tank
  13. theres a company out south Auckland way that sells ready made ones the also sell in garden centres. Ill try and find the name of the company for you
  14. I had good luck with a small outbreak with less light, more WCs, and fertilizer. give it a try before anything as drastic as antibiotics

  16. dammit I gave someone a hard time with the same mistake a while ago! yeah so it's 700x500x500mm
  17. so Ive been offered a friends tank but i need to make a stand for it. its an odd sized tank around 700x500cm footprint. anyone got a good design or a link to one? I'm fairly competent working with wood and have the basic tools.
  18. theres a filter in the hood too!
  19. basically anything that can fit the fry in it's mouth will be a threat, best to catch as many as you can and let the mother go. but if your tank is planted enough then at least some fry will survive even with other fish around. It's best to separate the fry in a net so water can circulate but if you have them in a solid container then several times a day you should change the water with tank water.
  20. actually im curious about this too. will they be ok inside as long as its a big tank so you don't get temp flactuations?
  21. what exactly was the problem with neons?
  22. if you live near a kiwi sanctuary then maybe it was another bird mimicking a kiwi?
  23. thats pretty big gravel shouldn't be a problem. mine is a lot smaller
  24. didn't know they were in the wild. LOtR theme going on eh?
